Chapter 29
DANNY
I am so tired of throwing up. I have to go see my parents next week and that is enough of a pain in the ass. I don’t want to be sick on top of it. Courtney keeps looking at me worried. After three days apparently she can’t take it anymore.
She corners me in the bathroom after I threw up for the third time this morning. “Alright, stand up.”
I look at her like she is nuts. “What?”Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
“I need to talk to you. Stand up.” She has this no nonsense look on her face.
I wipe my face on the hand towel that I pulled off the sink. I am a little shaky when I stand. “Alright what do you want?”
She hands me a box. “I want you to do this.” I look at the box and I drop it like it was on fire.
“No, no. No. That’s not it.”
“You don’t have a fever. You have been puking up a storm. You slept with Kyle. What more do you need?” She looks at me like I a dumb for not thinking of it first. “Did you even use protection? I know you are not on the pill.”
“I didn’t even think of it. It was the moment.”
“See, now do the damn test. It’s best to know before we go home.”
She leaves me alone with the test on the floor. It takes far too long for me to even pick the test back up off the floor. With shaky hands I open the box. Once I finally have the stick out and read the instructions I am full of all kinds of fear. What if this is true? I can’t do this. Do I even want to know? Would it be better to not know?
I set the test on the counter and set a timer after collecting my sample. I leave the bathroom, not bothering to watch the test. Courtney is waiting for me in the kitchen. “Well, what did it say?”
“I don’t know. It’s still going. I just left it in the bathroom.”
She rolls her eyes. “It’s not the end of the world. It just means we will have to do this together. We were already doing that. It just means another member of the group is all. And I am sure if you tell Kyle about it…”
I don’t let her finish. “I am not going to trap him with a baby. He doesn’t want me, so that’s that.”
My phone rings out. The timer is done. I can’t move. I don’t want to know. Courtney wants to know though. She grabs my hand and pulls me into the bathroom. She picks up the test and looks at the results. She tosses it into the trash without even showing it to me.
Her arms envelope me. “We are in this together.” Again I cry into my sister’s arms. All because of Kyle.
