Chapter 552 You’re No Different From A Stepmother

Upon hearing Dulcie’s pitiful voice, Casey felt her heart shatter and gently comforted her, “Dulcie, please don’t cry. I just rented a house nearby. You can come and play at my place in the future. Also, I have at kitchen here, so I can make lots of delicious food for you. How does that sound?”

“Really? Then, I’ll come over tomorrow. No, I want to go now!”

Immediately, Dulcie weakly replied, “But Daddy doesn’t allow it. He told me to go to bed, so I must go now. Miss Casey, can I come to your house tomorrow?”

“Of course you can. Go to sleep now, and see you tomorrow.”

She was about to end the call when she heard Symeon’s deep voice. “You didn’t say a word when you arrived and left without saying anything either. You’re really something. Is it because you wanted to see Dulcie cry for you?”

“Please, can you not speak so harshly? What do you mean by saying I just wanted to see Dulcie cry? I’m her biological mother, not a stepmother, I’m not that malicious.”

“You’re no different from a stepmother.”

After saying that, the man abruptly hung up, denying her the chance to retaliate and leaving her so furious that she couldn’t contain her anger.

However, she speculated that Symeon was busy coaxing Dulcie to sleep, making her feel slightly better. She helplessly smiled and shook her head. If Symeon hadn’t fallen in love with a married woman, he would actually be a responsible father.

Despite not being gentle and often stern, he never shied away from his responsibilities.

Just like the fact that he didn’t particularly like children yet still made an effort to get along with Dulcie.

The following day.

Casey arrived at the human resources department of Winters Enterprise on time to begin her work.

The HR staff member who handled her onboarding procedures scrutinized her appearance and remarked, “Today is your first day at work. How can you dress too casually? After fishing your work at noon, you should go change into something more appropriate.”

Lowering her head and examining her clothes, Casey noted that she was wearing a casual shirt and slim jeans, which seemed too informal.

She nodded. “Okay.”

After completing the procedures, she proceeded to her workstation and familiarized herself with her job responsibilities.

Since she applied for a job in the design department, the likelihood of encountering Elias was quite slim, except for chance encounters in the elevator.

She didn’t accomplish much all morning. It was her first day of work, so she felt clueless and struggled to

understand anything.

At noon, Casey planned to go to the nearby mall to purchase a set of professional attire. After all, the HR staff had expressed concerns about her inappropriate dressing.

Ding. The elevator door slowly opened.

Casey looked up and was pleasantly surprised to see Elias standing inside the elevator, unable to believe her luck to come upon such a rare encounter.

The man saw she wasn’t moving and asked, “Aren’t you coming in?”

“Uh, oh, yes. I am.”

Then, Casey quickly stepped into the elevator, and the doors closed slowly.

Besides the two of them, Elias’ personal bodyguard, Yacob, was also present in the elevator. Yacob merely glanced at her before returning his attention to his phone..

Elias suddenly spoke up. “You’re here to work at the company, which means you passed the interview.”

“Yes, I didn’t expect it myself.” She still had to show respect to Elias as he was her boss, after all.

“Congratulations.”

“Thank you, Mr. Winters. I will work hard in the future.

Yacob, who had remained silent all along, suddenly made a sarcastic remark. “Is it the new trend for youn women from wealthy families to experience an ordinary lifestyle? Why don’t you work at your own family’s company instead of coming to Winters Enterprise? Are you trying to spy on us?”

The fact that Elias didn’t reprimand him for his comment indicated that he also had some doubts.

After pondering for a few seconds, Casey decided that there was no need to lie, so she chose to tell the truth. “I had a falling out with my dad. My stepmother has been making things difficult at home and trying to kick me out. Since I can’t enter our family’s company, I can only earn money on my own.”

Yacob didn’t say anything further.

Elias, however, fell into silence. He suddenly thought the name Casey Carter felt familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before, even prior to knowing her, But he couldn’t recall where.

Ding. The elevator door slowly opened.

Casey said to Elias, “Well, Mr. Winters, I’ll go first.”

“Okay.” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

She exited first, followed by Elias and Yacob. Yacob remarked, “Mr. Winters, don’t you find this Miss Carte quite suspicious? It’s hard to determine if her words are true or not. Although you saved her at the party last time, and she seemed afraid of Symeon, I saw them having a meal together yesterday. Could those two be dating?”

Somewhat taken aback by the news, Elias asked, “Are you certain?”

“I’m sure. Don’t you believe in my eyesight? I think Casey might be a business spy sent by Symeon, and

2/

perhaps the whole act of you saving her was just a charade.”

The man narrowed his eyes slightly. If that were true, then Casey’s acting skills were remarkable.

Also, since Casey managed to pass the interview, it would indicate the presence of a mole within the

company.

“If that’s the case, then both she and Symeon are doomed. I won’t let either of them go. Keep an eye on these two for me.”

“Yes.”

Elias proceeded toward the office building with Yacob trailing behind him.

On the other hand, Casey arrived at the shopping mall and visited several stores before finally selecting one and purchasing a set of professional attire.

As she was leaving, she unexpectedly spotted Eleanor also shopping there.

Moreover, she was still accompanied by the same man as yesterday, the person Peter referred to as “Daddy.”

That woman was utterly shameless and treated Philip like a fool.

Casey walked directly toward them and stood in front of the two, saying, “Has your relationship reached such an intimate point? Are you planning to divorce my dad since you’re going out daily with a man?”

Startled by Casey’s sudden appearance, Eleanor couldn’t help but wonder what had been happening these past few days. Why had she kept encountering this troublemaker?

Eleanor’s face paled, and she quickly withdrew her hand from the man’s arm. She explained, “I was just shopping and happened to run into him. He forcefully brought me here to explain things, but I refuse to

listen.”

After speaking, Eleanor tried to leave, but since Peter wasn’t present today, Casey had nothing to worry

about.

She grabbed Eleanor’s arm and said, “Peter isn’t here today, so you can tell me the truth. Is Peter his child?

“What are you saying, Casey? No matter how much you dislike me, you can’t make such accusations. Do you have any evidence?” Eleanor reacted like a startled cat and was on the verge of exploding. Her emotions were extremely agitated.
