The Beauty and the Brain

Chapter 160

Chapter 160

Although Marie said it was just a slight pain in her shoulder and nothing serious, Dennis was still

worried. He insisted on taking her to Gavin for a check-up to make sure there were no issues with her

wound before letting it

1.

Gavin also cried out with a sad face, “Please, I beg you! Can you not bring

every small fight to me? Let me handle bigger issues! Don’t I deserve any

respect?”

Dennis furrowed his brow and said, “Marie was shot.”

Gavin glanced at Marie and said, “Yeah! It was a gunshot wound from half a

month ago. I bet the bullet that hit her has rusted by now! Man, do none of you have any common

sense?”

Dennis shook his head, “No, it’s just that anxiety deters rationale.”

Gavin said, “I’m begging you, please stop flaunting your love. The whole world knows you have a

girlfriend now.”

Marie’s face turned slightly red and she asked, “You keep saying ‘we’ and ‘us’,

but who else is there besides the two of us?”

As soon as this was mentioned, Gavin became even more frustrated. “Andres!

This was a gunshot wound from half a month ago. Look at Iliana, she had a knife wound almost two

months ago! Andres kept coming over to check on her as if he had nothing better to do, acting like this

was his own personal hospital!”

Dennis shrugged, “He has his shares.”

Gavin was speechless.

There was no reasoning with him; the conversation couldn’t continue. In this hospital, both Dennis and

Andres held shares, so he really had no choice.

Marie didn’t care about all those trivial matters; she was only concerned about Iliana and took the

opportunity to indulge her gossiping nature. “Did Andres bring Iliana here? Do they come often?”

Gavin turned to Marie and complained, “Exactly! I kindly set him up with

Iliana so he could make a clean break with Nataly sooner. Did I ask for him to harass me every day?”

Dennis nodded, “Serves you right, that’s what you get for being nosy.”

Gavin was rendered speechless.

It seemed to make sense, as he spent all day trying to persuade Andres, telling him how understanding

Iliana was and how manipulative Nataly could be.

Gavin lay on the office desk, feeling down. “The whole world is filled with the sour smell of love, only I

emit the fragrance of being a single pringle…”

Dennis flipped through the magazine in his hand, not even looking up, “Those who line up outside the

hospital every day waiting to see Mr. Hart, they shouldn’t be patients, right?”

Gavin said, “Dennis, those mediocre women were not my cup of tea at all!”

Dennis looked up and asked, “Can we really expect to meet angels while hanging out in nightclubs all

day?”

Marie looked at Gavin’s gritted teeth and quietly pulled Dennis, saying,

“Well… let’s go first…”

She estimated that among Gavin’s group of people, no one could be meaner than Dennis. She saw

Gavin wanting to stab Dennis to death with a scalpel

every day.

Dennis put down the magazine and left the hospital with Marie.

After confirming that Marie’s injuries were not serious, Dennis took Marie out for dinner. There was a

video conference scheduled for the evening, so Dennis

went to work. Marie asked Luca to take her back to the Spence mansion.

After celebrating Asher’s birthday, she went on a business trip to France with

Dennis. Then, she went to Bordeaux to discuss script matters. On top of that, she accidentally got shot

and, afraid of worrying Asher, Marie hadn’t returned for a long time.

Upon entering, Asher hadn’t gone to sleep yet and was sitting in the living room playing chess with

Noel. When he saw Marie come in, he glanced at her

and then, acting aloof, the old man turned his head away and ignored her.

Marie immediately ran over eagerly and said, “Grandpa! Look at me,

back!”

Asher was playing chess and shook his head, “Who? I don’t recognize them.”

Marie shook Asher’s arm and said, “Grandpa, I am your favorite granddaughter Marie! You love me the

most!”

Asher frowned and said, “My granddaughter has been missing for about ten

days to half a month.”

Marie hugged Asher tightly and wouldn’t let go, “Grandpa! I know I was

wrong! I won’t dare to do it again!”

Asher glared at her and then relaxed, saying, “Kiddo! You still know how to

come back?”

Marie sat down with a laugh, “Look at what you’re saying, isn’t it because I’ve

been busy with work? I couldn’t come back, but I’ve been thinking about you!

thought about you while eating and even while sleeping!”

Asher was cheered up by her, poked her forehead, and said, “Alright! You sure

know how to talk.”

Marie rubbed her head and said, “Since you’re busy playing chess, I’ll go take

a shower first, and then come down to chat with you later.”

Asher nodded, allowing her to leave. Marie didn’t mention the argument she

had with Noel that day at all, and she didn’t even look at Noel directly, as if she

couldn’t see him at all. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

After taking a bath, Marie walked into the living room. Asher was no longer there, leaving only Noel

sitting alone under the dim light, lost in thought.

Seeing Marie approaching, Noel snapped back to reality, his voice gentle,

“Marie, you’re back.”

Marie nodded, didn’t say anything, and turned to leave.

“Marie!” Noel called out to her.

Marie stopped, turned around, looked at Noel, and asked, “Is there something wrong?”

Noel hesitated for a moment and said, “I’m really sorry about what happened

last time… I…”

“No need…” Marie interrupted him, “No need to apologize. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.”

“Marie!” Noel called out to her again, “I never thought about being your

enemy, and I haven’t done anything to hurt you.”

Marie laughed and said, “There is little common ground for understanding between persons of differing

principles. What you think and what you do has nothing to do with me.”

“What if I help you? What if I help you do what you want to do?” Noel said.

Under the dim light, his warm eyes shone brightly like stars, dazzling Marie’s

eyes.
