Chapter 210
Dennis moved too much that day, causing the gunshot wound on his shoulder to reopen. Gavin had to
tend to his wounds again and decided to lock Dennis in the ward before going to the next room to
check on Marie.
Compared to Dennis, the injuries on Marie’s body were much lighter. There were no severe wounds.
Most of the scars exposed on her skin were cuts by branches or something else. They would be fine
after disinfection, but the rest looked terrible. There were large areas of bruises, all of which were
subcutaneous
tissue contusions or bleeding
After Marie woke up, Gavin gave her a thorough body checkup to make sure there was no fatal injury
on her
body. He sterilized her wounds and applied ointment before letting her go back to the ward to rest.
Finally, Marie got the chance to take a shower and changed into a clean hospital gown.
As she lay on the bed, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Her mind was filled with the scene
where
Dennis lowered his hand in her arms.
Although Dennis was now fine and sleeping safely next door to her, it seemed Marie was left with a
trauma.
She was full of uneasiness when she could not see him.
After the 108th time rummaging around, Marie finally got up, sneaked out of the ward quietly, and ran
to the
door of the next ward.
She twisted the doorknob, but it did not budge. Marie turned it again but still could not open it. She
thought
Gavin must have locked Dennis inside to let him have a good rest.
She returned to her ward, rummaged through the drawers, and found a small hairpin. Then, she ran
back to
Dennis’s ward door.
Marie straightened the hairpin and poked it into the lock skillfully a few times. Hearing a crisp click, she
turned the doorknob and opened the door.
Marie closed the door after she sneaked in. Dennis was already asleep on the hospital bed. She
tiptoed over
and climbed onto Dennis’ bed.
At this time, with the light from the moon outside and the dim light in the distance, Marie could clearly
see
the scars on Dennis’ body.
He was lying on the hospital bed, only half-covered with a quilt, revealing his lean upper body.
However, his originally attractive, wheat-colored skin was covered with blood streaks, and bruises were
everywhere. Also,
gauze covered an area on his sturdy lower abdomen. Marie knew it was where he was stabbed.
Dennis was stabbed because he was determined to die to save her.
Marie leaned closer to Dennis. The man’s refreshing scent mixed with the smell of disinfectant in the
clinic inexplicably made her feel at ease.
She nestled in Dennis’ arms and fell deep asleep.
She had a dreamless night. When Marie woke up the next day, she opened her eyes and met Dennis’
helpless eyes as they gazed at her.

“My fiancée, are you that impatient now? I remember the door of this ward was locked last night.”
Dennis raised his eyebrows and looked at her.
Marie shrank her neck and pulled the quilt upwards, covering half of her face, only revealing a pair of
big eyes. Her eyelashes fluttered, looking adorable.
She smiled awkwardly and said, “Well, maybe I was sleepwalking…”
Dennis nodded and asked, “Then, are you going to starve your husband to death now?”
Stunned, Marie asked, “What time is it?”
“One o’clock in the afternoon,” Dennis said.
Marie was speechless.
She silently sat up from the bed and said, “I’ll go back to wash my face now. Let’s eat later.”
Dennis watched as Marie walked to the door, yawning with a sleepy look on her face. As soon as she
opened
the door, she bumped into Gavin and staggered backward. She narrowed her eyes and raised her
hand to
greet Gavin perfunctorily. “Hi, good morning.”
Gavin silently checked his watch. It was half past one in the afternoon.
Marie squeezed through the crack of the door and returned to her ward. Dennis chuckled as he looked
at the
stumbling figure.
Cullen squeezed in and said awkwardly, “Uhm, Mr. Whitney. I told Dr. Hart that you’re not up yet, but he
said
he would bring you medicine.”
Dennis waved his hand to indicate it was fine. He was in a good mood today and generously let the two
of
them go.
Gavin frowned and grumbled, “Both of them are seriously injured. Can you two control yourself? It’s not
like
you won’t be able to see her in the future. Does a couple of days of separation makes any différence?
Take
care of yourself!”
Dennis was speechless.
Gavin changed Dennis’ bandages while nagging, “We’re all adults. Can you have some self-control?
It’s only a few days. What if the wound breaks open again…”
Dennis was in a good mood and did not interrupt him. He sat on the bed and listened to Gavin’s
nagging.
After changing the bandages, Gavin advised, “All right, go eat. Take something light. Don’t make me
nag
again.”
Dennis nodded and turned to Cullen, “Go ask Marie what she wants for lunch.”
Gavin was speechless.
“Why do I feel like what I say is unnecessary?” He thought.

. Cullen ran eagerly to the room next door and knocked on the door to ask the question. Then, he ran
back and
said with a smile, “Ms. Spence says she will let you decide, Mr. Whitney. She will have whatever.”
Dennis nodded and instructed, “Ask her if she wants to eat fish today.”
Cullen rushed to the next door again and returned soon, informing, “Ms. Spence says she’s fine with
it.”
Gavin was speechless.
“It’s the same answer no matter how they ask! I beg them to please hurry and eat something. There’s
no need
to run around like this!” Gavin scoffed inwardly.
Dennis was about to get out of bed when Gavin stopped him. “Where are you going?”
Dennis glanced at him helplessly. “To eat.”
Gavin roared angrily, “Did my words fall on deaf ears? I told you to have a rest! You can’t just walk
around!
What are you doing now? Are you going to drive out to a restaurant?”
Dennis rubbed his temple and said, “You didn’t say I can’t walk.”
Gavin glared at him. “Didn’t I?”
Cullen nodded silently. “You didn’t, Dr. Hart.”
Gavin was at a loss for words.
Dennis graciously sat back on the bed and said, “Fine, I won’t go out. Cullen, bring the meal over and
ask
Marie to come over,”
Gavin’s face darkened. Dennis paused and added, “Send an extra meal to Gavin’s office.”
Cullen immediately nodded and ran out to get takeout with a smile, while Gavin walked out of the ward Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
with a
sullen face.
Marie came over not long after. Only men were in the base, and even the clothes were of men’s size.
She
looked even more petite and cute in the oversized hospital gown.
After Cullen brought the meal over, Marie approached Dennis’ small dining table and started to chow
down
without restraint. She was almost starved to death as she had not eaten a proper meal for days.
Dennis kept putting food on her tray as he gazed at her dotingly, saying, “Eat slowly. No one will snatch
it
away from you.”
With Marie’s head lowered, she wolfed down her meal, wiped her mouth, and announced she was full.
Then,
she ran back to her ward.
She did not look up at Dennis the whole time, as if the fish on the plate looked a hundred times better
than
Dennis.
Marie lay in her room as she felt the atmosphere was a little awkward. She did promise to tell Dennis
the truth and planned to tell him, but the problem was she did not know what to say.

“Do I tell him that I’m actually dead, but I was reborn?” She thought, “Will Dennis really not turn me to
Gavin to
see a psychiatrist or admit me into an asylum?”
Apart from that, she did not know how to confess to him.
“We agreed to be honest! I just want to find a more euphemistic and less direct way to say it,” she
pondered.
On the other hand, Dennis leaned against the hospital bed and pressed the call bell. Cullen walked in
and
greeted, “Mr. Whitney.”
Dennis waved his hand and said, “I’m full. Take this away.”
Cullen cleared the table and walked back to the ward with Gavin. Gavin asked, “Cullen said you want
to discharge. Where are you going in such a hurry?”
“Back to New York,” Dennis said.
