Chapter 22
CASSANDRA
“I made dinner.” I say but Nick just stares at me, as if debating on whether to reply me or not.
“That’s… that’s okay I guess, but you don’t have to do this anymore Cassandra, you don’t have to work for me anymore. ” He says and I feel a pang in my chest. Is he going to send me out of his house? Is he really over me that quickly?
“Wait! Does this mean you’re sending me packing?” I ask hurriedly, fear gripping me at the thought of not being able to see him again, not to mention leaving his house means I’m leaving this world as well, since Victoria will most definitely kill me.
“No.” He says plainly and I have a sigh of relief.
“Please, just let me do this for you… it’s the least I can do… it doesn’t mean I am working for you, I just wanted to cook for you.” I say, with a tinge of sadness in my tone.
“I am not hungry. You can eat without me.” He says and then walks past me, leaving me at the front of the door. I shut the door close and turn to his, following him as he makes his way towards the staircase.
“Come on Nick.” I whine, making him halt in his steps. He turns to me, staring at me with a hungry look, before coming close to me and dropping his bag in the process. He pins me against the wall roughly making me wimp.
“I told you to stay away from me.” He growls looking at me, “If you keep making me feel this way about you, I might do something that I shouldn’t do to you. So, please just stay away from me.” He adds, his breath fanning my face as I stare at him with my heart pounding against my ribcage, my breathing unstable.
“It’s just a harmless dinner Nick.” I manage to say, while trying to not throw myself at him.
“Cassy…” He pauses, and then adds, “…I am trying my best to not carry you and pin you down to that dinner table and fuck the living day lights out of you.” He growls making me hot with desire, and I can feel my hormones going into overdrive. Curse you hormones.
“Then what are you waiting for?” I whisper in his ear, and my eyes widen as I realize what I just said. I don’t even know what I am doing now, but I am sure that this is not me, in my right senses, talking.
“Your love and consent… Look Cassandra, it’s not that easy. I’m trying to let go of you, I’m trying to forget you and move on but you are not making this any easier for me, okay? Besides, it’s different when I’m with you, I don’t want to have a one night stand with you.” He says, his eyes filled with hurt and sadness, and I start to feel my heart ache for him.
“What if I don’t want you to let me go Nick? What if I don’t want you to forget me and move on? What if I want you to love me? What if I want you to fuck the living daylights out of me? I…” I whisper, trailing off. Was I just about to tell him I love him? What is wrong with me?
Nick let’s go off me in anger before punching the wall with his fist, and immediately, blood starts oozing down his fist.
“Look, don’t say what you don’t mean. Just stop trying to make things complicated. I’m done with all this shit.” He says harshly, making me feel guilty because he is right in a way; I don’t know what I want.
But his words are the least of my worries as I watch his wounded hand as he climbs the stairs leaving me looking like an idiot for trying to get him back. Maybe I didn’t say it in the right way, maybe I should have said it the way I mean it, but… I don’t know anymore, and I’m very sure I just lost my chance at getting Nick to love me back.
I thought Julian said it was really easy because it’s not, and because I’m not even sure of myself. I decide to not go to him to help him treat his wound because he’ll definitely refuse to see me.
NICHOLAS
“Oh my God, Nick! What happened to your hand?” Laura yells as soon as she enters Nick’s office and sees the injury Nick had sustained on his hand last night.
“I am fine don’t worry about it. it’s just a little accident.” He says, unwilling to delve further into the details about it.
“But it’s all swollen and bruised, did you get into a fight yesterday, and didn’t you come in to work or pick my calls?” She asks with genuine concern.
“No, I didn’t get into a fight and I had business to take care of, that’s why I didn’t come to work yesterday. You don’t have to stress about it I’m fine, and sorry for not picking your calls…” He says.
She ignores what he says, her attention of his hand. “It doesn’t look so good; I’ll have to bandage it.” She says, holding his hand as she looks closely at it, making him clear his throat awkwardly. “I’m not taking no for an answer, so let me.” She says.
“There is no saying no to you.” He says and then laughs before letting her put ointment on the wound and then she bandages it.
“All done. Now I can work well without bothering about your bruised hand.” She smiles. “Here are the papers you need to sign before you go home and you have a conference to attend at six in the evening today.” She adds.
“Thank you so much Laura for the help and all, I really needed it ” he says.
“You are welcome, it’s my job after all.” She says and then turns away from him about to leave, before halting in her steps, her back facing him, “I also want to apologize for what I did the day before yesterday… It was not something I should have done, I made a mistake and crossed the line, I’m so sorry for that.” She adds.
“It’s fine Laura, you can leave now. I’ve forgotten about it already.” He says and she nods before leaving his office. Nick sighs and then takes off his jacket before sitting up right.
The thought of how he treated Cassy last night flashes through his mind and he feels guilty that he had hurt her again, he didn’t mean to and he was just doing what she asked him to. She can’t get mad at him and lash out one day and then try to be kind and act like nothing happened the next day, and start telling me him how she wanted him as well. Sometimes he wonders if she’s just toying with him. One moment, she’s hot, and the next, she’s cold.
He wasn’t over her yet because just being close to her alone made him lose his mind, it made him want to do many things to her body but he restrained himself because he didn’t want something they would both regret. Even if she didn’t love him, he didn’t want her to hate him to the point where she would leave his house because her presence alone makes him sane.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
He groans, loosening his tie as he wonders what Cassy doesn’t like about him. He is rich, and he can buy her any car or any house she wants. He can clear all the debts her father left for her to pay with just one phone call. He can bring down heaven for her if she asks. He is so kind and nice to her.
He wonders if it’s because of his looks, but then shakes his head negatively. He is handsome and any girl would love to have him as hers but what is the flaw he has that makes her not want to love him? Why couldn’t she love him the way he loves her?
He doesn’t even mind if she doesn’t fall in love with him immediately, they could take it slow and have fun but yet, she keeps insisting that she wants nothing to do with loving him, but if that’s the case, why didn’t she keep to her words and let him be?
Why does she still try to care and cater for him? Why does she still make dinners and laugh with him? And why does she tell him she wants him if she doesn’t feel anything for him or want to have anything to do with him?
He sighs, clearing his head of all thoughts of Cassy, as he doesn’t have all day for his work and so he has to forget about Cassandra just for now, at least till he knows what she really feels for him.
