Chapter 170
Chapter 170
Hudson Yards. Wyatt’s face was pale as he sat in the doorway, watching the flurry of activity surrounding Eva’s transfer to the ambulance. The noise appeared to be quite far away. Was he depressed? No, not quite. He was slightly taken aback. Wyatt was taken aback when Eva declared her hatred for Ivy to want to murder her. What Wyatt had overlooked previously had allowed that hatred to grow out of control. Ken completed his arrangements and turned to see Wyatt in his wheelchair. His face was dark, sullen, and icy. Even if Wyatt sustained an injury, the chill and fierceness that surrounded him did not abate. Ken pursed his lips and approached with apprehension and concern. “Do not be alarmed, President. According to the doctor, she lost too much blood. But her life is not in grave danger.” Wyatt remained silent, but his dark eyes grew darker. Ken was unable to see into their depths. Wyatt slammed the wheelchair’s armrest shut and spoke in a deep, cold tone. “Send the nanny to the Philippines. There is no reason for her to return. As for my mother,” his voice was devoid of warmth. His entire body was chilled. “After treating her injury, confine her in a mental hospital. She is not to be discharged without my permission.” Ken’s face froze as his pupils contracted. How could he possibly not comprehend what that meant? If Ken had not been informed of what occurred by the bodyguard who had been secretly protecting them outside the house, he would have been astounded. Wyatt’s behavior was understandable, however, because it was for Ivy. Wyatt Reed’s willingness to go this far demonstrated how much he despised Eva’s actions. Ken bowed his head immediately and replied, “Yes, sir.”
After a brief moment of silence, Ken raised his eyes to Wyatt. “Will Ms. Morgan return, President?” Wyatt’s face tensed slightly. He was also concerned about that. If Ivy leaves, he may never have another chance to be close to her. “Why don’t you call her later and inquire about her dinner preferences?” Ken suggested, “I’ll have it prepared and delivered.” Wyatt’s eyes flitted as the chill gradually dissipated. He raised his eyes to Ken. “Are you attempting to obtain a raise?” Usually, Ken would not dare to suggest such things. He smiled and hoped for the best. “President, you cannot pursue Ms. Morgan solely on your own. It is preferable to seek assistance. Because Ms. Morgan has a bodyguard, we can also obtain extra help!” “Get to the point,” Wyatt advised. “My cousin previously worked in a white-collar job, but he recently established a match-making agency. He possesses a silver tongue capable of convincing the dead to resurrect! He is regarded as a relationship guru. You can give it a try if you’re willing.” Wyatt’s face darkened at a visible rate to the naked eye. A match-making agency? Was it necessary for the President of the Great Reed Corporation to seek the assistance of a match-making agency? Wyatt will undoubtedly become a laughing stock if word of this spreads! Ken’s lips trembled slightly as Wyatt’s expression became increasingly dark and unpleasant. He was unable to recruit his cousin and may even lose his job! That would be the worst-case scenario! “It’s fine if you’re not interested in this. I mentioned your situation to my cousin previously, and he pleaded with me to put in a word with you that he guarantees Ms. Morgan will reconsider. Still, I’m not convinced he’s that dependable.” Ken spoke and stepped forward to assist Wyatt in getting into the elevator in his wheelchair. “Get him to meet me,” Wyatt said abruptly.
“Huh?” Ken believed his ears were deceiving him. Wyatt pressed his lips together. His eyes became dark and cold as he glanced at Ken. “If it fails, you may leave with him!” Ken shuddered, ‘Fantastic... Now I’m entangled with my untrustworthy cousin?!’ “No one, not even Ivy, can discover his true identity. Invite him to serve as my butler. Do it immediately.” Wyatt wheeled himself into the study as soon as he finished speaking. Ken was only a few seconds later brought back to his senses. ‘He agreed to this?! He must be in dire straits!’ Ken immediately called his cousin. And it took less than twenty minutes, Wyatt was confronted by a fat man who weighed more than 100 kilograms. He smiled widely, causing his eyes to squint into a thin line. Wyatt came to a halt and frowned. When he looked at Ken, who stood beside his cousin, his expression was dark and ugly. “Cousin?” The fat man’s eyes curved into a smile before Ken could speak. He made his entrance with spittle flying everywhere. “You are not required to be so courteous, Mr. Reed. There is no reason to address me as a cousin. Jimmy is my given name. You will not go wrong hiring me as your butler; rest assured! One month to reconcile, three months to warm up your feelings for one another, and you two will be remarried within a year!” Jimmy made a formal introduction. He could only appear confident if he made it clear to Wyatt what he wanted. Otherwise, he felt very likely to be ejected! Indeed, when Wyatt saw Jimmy, he felt as if he had gone insane for being persuaded by Ken to seek extra help. On the other hand, Wyatt thought they could give it a shot after hearing Jimmy’s glorious vision for him.
Ken cast a desperate glance at his cousin, pleading with Jimmy to tone it down. If Jimmy boasted excessively and accomplished nothing, Ken would lose his job. For a brief moment, the study was silent. Wyatt tapped the desk with his index finger. “You were previously a white-collar worker; why did you switch careers?” He’d always had an uncanny ability to read people. Even Ken, who had been with him for years, was able to remain only after undergoing numerous tests and stringent selection. Jimmy sighed and lowered his eyes as he stomped his feet. His flab jiggled. “That is because there will be insufficient food left for others to eat whenever I visit the staff cafeteria. Are they going to blame me for that?” He pouted and was enraged at the suggestion. “My boss also stated that my performance was excellent, but the money I bring in covers my food expenses, and thus they cannot afford to feed me. Hmph! They wanted to get rid of me once they were finished with me!” Wyatt’s brows drew slightly together. For a brief moment, he was at a loss for words. He clenched his teeth and spoke in a deep, cold tone. “How successful is your match-making agency?” Jimmy was taken aback. He patted his chest immediately. “You and Ms. Morgan are my first couple! I’ll give it my all!” Wyatt’s lips twitched. His face was frosty as he cast a menacing glance toward Ken. Ken was already regretting his referral at the time. Ken stood there like a terrified puppy and silently hung his head. ‘I was mistaken. So erroneous.’ Jimmy burst out laughing. “When may I begin working, President?” Wyatt regarded him coldly and pointedly. “You have one day of probation.” He was on the verge of telling Jimmy to leave. Jimmy, on the other hand, joyfully shouted. “Certainly! Then I’ll begin cooking immediately!” Ken, who remained standing, was met with a death stare of scrutiny. Wyatt gnashed his teeth and exclaimed, “Get out!” after a long time. Ken did not pause and hurried away. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Wyatt sat in his study and rubbed his temples as he inhaled deeply. ‘I must have gone insane!’ After the nanny left, Wyatt did not rush to find a replacement nanny, as he was hesitant and concerned. It was nearly evening when he detected the aroma of the aromatic food. Jimmy knocked on his door, behaving sycophantically. “President, contact Ms. Morgan and request that she return home.” The phone was on the table in front of Wyatt, but the screen remained utterly black and motionless. Wyatt raised his eyes. His eyes were dark and gloomy, with indescribable irritability and coldness. He had no idea how he should explain the situation to Ivy earlier. Jimmy’s smile was extraordinarily empathic. “I’ll take care of it then.” Fortunately, Ken had already given Jimmy all the necessary phone numbers before leaving. Jimmy went outside and retrieved his phone.
