Chapter 179
Chapter 179
Marco pressed his lips together. His dark eyes glowed with a chilling light. They arrived at the hospital but remained inside the car. Instead, Bill went inside. Bill dialed Ivy in less than five minutes. “Miss, I’ve caught him.” Ivy’s eyes flitted open and closed. She heard another pleading voice on the other end of the line. It was unusual. “Did Taurus send you here?” Marco asked as he took over her phone. It was succinct. He suspected it was also Taurus Phyton. “No, no... It’s not Mr. Phyton!” His voice was sharp and panicked as he purposefully attempted to conceal something. However, the phrase “Mr. Phyton” revealed all. Marco took out his phone and dialed a number without hesitation. “Catch Taurus Phyton. Don’t let him escape.” The person on the other end of the line paused for a beat. “Mr. Reed has arrived and has already caught Taurus Phyton ahead of us.” His eyes widened in surprise. “Oh? Okay, then.” Marco hung up and fixed his gaze on Ivy. “It appears as though Mr. Reed discovered the target some time ago. He is already one step ahead of us.” Ivy appeared perplexed. She had been in the company of Wyatt for a few days, but she was unaware that he had been investigating this matter and had even discovered the mastermind so quickly. Wyatt was never a passive person, on second thought. He’d suffered such a severe setback this time; how could he remain still? Perhaps he had been investigating it covertly from the start. “Would you like to take a look?” Marco made the suggestion. Ivy grinned. “Thank you, but no. Send me back.” She was unconcerned about a small aide. Ivy desired to wait for a large fish to swallow the bait. Marco shook his head, turned to instruct his driver, and exited the vehicle. While he was in the hospital, the driver would return her. There was no reason to be concerned, as
the mastermind had been apprehended. Ivy, on the other hand, remained vaguely pessimistic. Business should be about advancing mutual interests. Those who were capable could obtain additional benefits, but why did it have to be at the expense of someone’s life? Assassination, car accident, mass killing, hitmen... These individuals were ruthless. They soon made their way to Hudson Yards. Jimmy had already returned when Ivy entered the room. He greeted her cheerfully. “Ms. Morgan, I prepared a cup of fruit tea for you. It’s extremely refreshing and nutritious!” Ivy was not in the best of spirits. She shook her head and realized she had forgotten something. “When did you return?” Jimmy grinned. “Mr. Reed stated that he needed to attend to something and left, so he enlisted my assistance in watching the door so that you would not be alone at home. Take note of Mr. Reed’s gentle and considerate demeanor. He is such a considerate man.” Ivy frowned and rolled her eyes. ‘Did that mean Wyatt went in search of Taurus Phyton personally?’ She made no mention of this. Jimmy handed her the freshly brewed fruit tea. “Ms. Morgan, in a few days, Chairman Morgan will celebrate his birthday. Mr. Reed takes this very seriously, stating that Chairman Morgan is his most admired elder and role model in life and business. He’d spent the last few days agonizing over Chairman Morgan’s birthday present.” Ivy squinted. Her focus was diverted. “What does he care about my father’s birthday in the first place?” ‘Is there nothing else he could be doing?’ Jimmy approached her. “Mr. Reed is thinking of you right now. He, too, wishes to demonstrate his regard. After all, this is an important event, and we cannot afford to be careless.” Ivy drew the corners of her lips together. “Assure him not to be concerned. My father is well aware that he is respected.” “How will Chairman Morgan be pleased if the gift is not thoughtful?”
Ivy came to a halt in her tracks. ‘Is he attempting to ascertain my father’s preferences? What a quandary!’ She grinned. “My father has only three major interests in life: fishing, money counting, and swearing!” Jimmy came dangerously close to falling down the stairwell. His heart trembled as he looked at Ivy’s departing back. Should Wyatt transform into a fish to be caught? What a stupid idea! Should Wyatt give him money? Lame! Should Wyatt volunteer to be a punching bag? Impossible! Jimmy was sitting alone in the living room, depressed and heartbroken over Wyatt when he heard a movement from the door. Wyatt returned. Jimmy was delighted to see him. “Mr. Reed, you’ve returned! You continue to go to work even though you are not fully recovered. You are the most committed and successful individual I have ever seen.” Wyatt had just cleaned up Taurus Phyton, so he was in a good mood, but as soon as he walked through the door and heard these words, his face darkened. This level of bravado was truly astounding. Wyatt suppressed his rage and inquired coldly. “Has Ivy returned?” “Indeed, Mr. Reed. Ms. Morgan appeared to be in a bad mood, which I noticed. I don’t think you should cause yourself any trouble.” Wyatt gave Jimmy a sidelong glance. Jimmy shivered as a result of that cold stare. Jimmy coughed lightly and hurriedly fixed the problem. “The banquet earlier had been such a big scene straight out of a TV show, but I think it lost some luster without you...” “The banquet earlier had been such a big scene straight out of a TV show, but I think it lost someContent from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
luster without you...” ‘Who was it that I hired?!’ I’d have kicked him out long ago if it hadn’t been for his particular task!’ Jimmy didn’t get to finish his sentence. He dashed over in two steps, pushing Wyatt’s wheelchair. “However, Mr. Reed, I believe you should be in a state of crisis. Marco Seely is in ideal circumstances, and his attitude toward Ms. Morgan is unique. You can’t afford to be careless!” Jimmy could sense everyone’s respect and fear for Marco Seely at the banquet. That man’s temperament was similar to Wyatt’s. However, such a man was surprisingly gentle and modest to Ivy, assisting her in any way he could. How could they turn a blind eye to it? Wyatt rubbed his brow. In an irritated tone, he said. “Fine. Go ahead and do what you’re supposed to do.” He ignored Jimmy’s words. Marco treated Ivy as special because she had saved his son during that terrorist attack on the streets of Europe at the time. Wyatt was certain that Marco had no bad intentions for Ivy as a result of this. In terms of emotions, Marco’s wife was killed in the attack, so how could he forget about her in a few years? Wyatt was about to enter the study when he abruptly stopped and went to Ivy’s room. He knocked and waited quietly for a few moments. Ivy wore a face mask and stood in the doorway. Her arms were crisscrossed across her chest. “Mr. Reed, you seem to have a lot of energy, don’t you?” He could still come back and talk to Taurus Phyton after going out to catch her. Wyatt lowered his gaze for a brief moment. His eye was gentle when he looked up at her. “I can’t wait to tell you some exciting news. I’m confident you’ll be pleased.” “Did you catch the murderer, Taurus Phyton?” Her tone was flat, with no hint of surprise. Wyatt froze for a split second. He then gave her a grateful look. “So, you already know, don’t you? “Did you turn him over to the cops?” Wyatt gave a slow smile. “There’s no rush. It would be too kind to hand him over now. Before
sending him to jail, I’m going to swallow his company whole and let him watch his life’s work crumble. Do you want to vent your rage?” Ivy took a breather. “You’ve already done everything necessary, so what else can I do?” “Okay. It is preferable not to get your hands dirty.” Ivy appeared to be able to sense the cold vibes enveloping Wyatt at the time. Wyatt’s gaze was drawn to her. He didn’t hold back his praise when he remembered what Jimmy had reminded him of. “Our Ivy is both beautiful and intelligent. Most importantly, you’re incredibly nice.” Any woman would undoubtedly feel her heart blossom if she heard this, right? Ivy’s lips twitched in mockery as she looked down at Wyatt. “I guess that’s why I’m too good for you.” ‘What nonsense is he up to this late at night?!’ Ivy pondered. Wyatt was depressed and returned to his room to sleep.
