The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 143

Chapter 143

Adrian's car pulled up within ten minutes. Jamie hopped out, helping Cordelia assist Barney into the

car. Once inside, Cordelia dialed Ronan's number which finally went through.

"Missing me?" Ronan joked over the phone.

"Grandpa's sick. We're on our way to the hospital you helped pick out for him before. Get over here

now."

Ronan's tone immediately turned serious. "I'm on my way."

The trio got Barney to the hospital, where the doctors needed to run some tests, pushing them out to

the waiting area.

Cordelia paced nervously along the corridor. Jamie headed off to pay the bills. Adrian sat and waited

for Ronan, eager to show off his good deed.

Ronan rushed into the hospital, Cordelia approached him and said, "Grandpa seems to have heart

issues. The doctors are trying to revive him."

"What happened?" Ronan's face darkened as he spotted Jamie and Adrian in the background. No

need to ask, it was obviously them who brought Cordelia and grandpa here. Despite his displeasure,

he had to hold his tongue for now.

"I'm not sure, Grandpa's heart condition isn't severe. I don't understand why it suddenly…" Cordelia

was at a loss, worried Ronan would blame her for not taking better care of Barney. "It's my fault. I didn't

take good care of Grandpa."

Ronan sat down on a bench in the corridor, Jamie beside him. Ronan held Cordelia's hand tightly

throughout.

The doctor finally emerged.

"How is he?" Ronan immediately asked.

"You can go in and see him." The doctor leaned in. "He only wants you in there."

Ronan muttered something to Cordelia before heading into Barney's room. Barney lay in bed, looking

quite spirited without an IV.

"How are you feeling, Grandpa?" Ronan asked, sitting by Barney's bedside.

Barney opened his palm, revealing a capsule.

"Do you know what this pill is?" Barney asked Ronan.

"I do. Betaloc, you take it regularly."

"Open it, see how much medication is in there compared to the regular ones?" Barney handed Ronan

another pill he normally took, asking him to compare.

Ronan opened it and found the dosage was three times the usual amount.

"Betaloc is a heart failure medication, but you know overdosing could be fatal. If I died, with no other

lethal drugs in my system, it wouldn't be considered foul play. Do you know who gave me these pills?"

Barney asked Ronan.

Ronan frowned. Deanna.

"There's a reason why I don't like her. If she wants to see this outcome, I'll give it to her. Whatever she's

trying to achieve, you should know. She might've made it so Della's phone couldn't dial emergency

services and deliberately kept your line busy. If I died, Della might've been held responsible. But this

time, Della managed to keep things under control, or else, it would've been unthinkable. Good thing I

was suspicious. She's truly evil."

Ronan looked at his grandpa in confusion. Did Grandpa know all along that his marriage was just a

contract? Was he deliberately pushing him to end this contract marriage? All Deanna wanted was for

the contract to end once Grandpa passed away, and then Ronan’s divorce.

"Grandpa, I'm glad you're okay."

"Ronan, I've lived a long life. Don't think you can hide things from me." With that, Barney closed his

eyes to rest.

When Ronan exited the room, Cordelia anxiously grabbed his arm. "Is Grandpa okay?"

"He's fine, don't worry." Thinking about how Cordelia was almost used by Deanna, Ronan's tone

softened.

Cordelia sighed in relief.

"Is Barney okay?" Adrian approached Ronan to inquire. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.

"He's fine, don't worry." Ronan glanced at Jamie with a complicated look.

"Mr. Evans, we should get going." Jamie patted Adrian on the shoulder, and the two left.
