Chapter 163
Chapter 163
Cordelia clocked off from work, and it was already past eight in the evening. She deliberately dodged
the peak hour, not wanting to head home with Ronan.
Once home, she found that Ronan hadn't returned yet.
"Della, you off work? Hungry?" Shelley asked Cordelia.
"I'm starved. Craving some Mexican burritos." Cordelia had a hankering for the taste of burritos.
"Alright, I'll ask Judy to whip some up for you," Shelley said with a grin.
Judy prepared the burritos for Cordelia, who sat at the dining table munching away while watching TV.
The space in Cordelia's home was quite small, with the dining table situated in the living room.
The doorbell rang, and Judy answered it.
In walked Ronan.
Cordelia had a dab of sauce at the corner of her mouth. She pretended not to notice and continued
watching TV.
"Mr. Evans, why are you just getting here?" Judy asked Ronan, a bit in awe of him, probably because
she had never seen such a high-class individual.
"I was afraid if I came too early, a certain someone wouldn't dare to come home." Ronan replied. His Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
gaze remained fixed on Cordelia as he spoke.
Judy said, "Well, I'll leave you two to chat then," and retreated into the house.
Cordelia kept her head down, devouring her burrito, her demeanor seemingly unaffected by the
presence of Ronan.
She was engrossed in a TV drama where the main characters were about to divorce. The female lead
couldn't stand the man and was making a fuss about wanting a divorce. Cordelia thought, “How boring.
If it were her, she would just give the guy the cold shoulder until he felt like she didn't even exist, that
would lead to a natural divorce.”
"Just having that?" Ronan asked, sitting behind Cordelia on the couch.
"Mhm," Cordelia replied nonchalantly.
Ronan glanced at Cordelia's TV before asking her, "Any plans for Christmas? The holiday's just around
the corner."
"My mom just woke up, and I want to be with her. As for Barney, I'll figure something out," Cordelia
replied, her eyes still glued to the TV.
Ronan cocked his head to look at her. "Since when did you become so considerate?"
"Aren't I always?" Cordelia took a bite from her burrito, wiping her mouth with a napkin.
"So, you're saying a simple message to Grandpa on Messenger would suffice?"
"That was the plan."
"As my mistress, is this how you treat me? Neglecting your duties?" Ronan was a bit peeved at
Cordelia's nonchalant response.
Cordelia paused with her utensils in mid-air. Did Samantha tell him? Samantha, always meddling
where she was not needed!
"I can fulfill my duties, but can I take leave during the Christmas period? I can visit Grandpa after
Christmas Eve," Cordelia replied calmly, she used to take leave often.
"Stay with me for ten days, and I'll give you fifty grand. Haven't given you money in a while," Ronan
said, lighting up a cigarette.
He had actually forgotten that his initial relationship with Cordelia was based on money. He had
mistaken it for love.
Cordelia stopped eating, "What about my mom?"
"Invite her to the villa. We'll celebrate together," Ronan suggested.
Cordelia pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "Alright."
"And..." Ronan started.
"And what?"
"Don't get upset with me over that man anymore. I am old. I can't handle it," Ronan said and got up to
leave.
He had no intention of spending the night here, not even a hint of it.
Once the door shut, Cordelia's home returned to its peaceful state. She had intended to treat him
indifferently until they divorced. But his comment about her husband being old and unable to handle the
stress pulled her back into the abyss.
Cordelia's heart pounded heavily in her chest.
