The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Cordelia stepped out onto the balcony to take a call.

"Why aren't you home yet?" Ronan asked, his tone authoritative, like a boss scolding an employee.

"I went to see my mom and to pack up my winter clothes. I also needed to bring her some daily

necessities." Cordelia replied.

"When do you expect to be back?"

Cordelia glanced at the time on her phone. "Probably in about two hours."

"Ronan, your wife sprained her ankle. If your marriage wasn’t a sham, you should come pick her up."

Adrian’s voice echoed from behind Cordelia, his tone full of mockery.

Adrian and Kendra had somehow positioned themselves behind Cordelia. Kendra was barely wrapped

in a towel, as if she wanted everyone to gawk at her sexy figure.

"You sprained your ankle?" Ronan asked Cordelia.

"No biggie. It happened when I was climbing the stairs..." Cordelia felt a lump in her throat. Her own

brother was not only not helping her but also making her lose dignity in front of others. She choked

back tears.

Ronan hung up the phone.

Deciding not to let Adrian see her upset, Cordelia quickly brushed away her tears and turned to him.

"Bro, do you think provoking me will do any good? I'll make sure you don't see whatever you want to

see. Flaunting your relationship in front of me like that, I bet you guys aren't as solid as you seem!"

With that, Cordelia retreated into her room to pack.

Kendra leaned against the door frame, eyeing Cordelia. Other than being young and innocent, Cordelia

had no other notable qualities. She wondered what Jamie saw in her.

Cordelia was aware of Kendra's gaze but chose to ignore her, busying herself with packing. When her

phone rang again, she had nearly finished packing.

It was Ronan.

"Open the door." He said. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

As Cordelia pondered which door he meant, it dawned on her. Could Ronan be here?

Somewhat hesitant, she walked to the door and opened it to find Ronan standing outside.

"You sprained your ankle?" He looked down at her foot.

Cordelia thought that he was probably just here to prove that their marriage wasn't fake in front of

Adrian.

"It's nothing serious." She replied.

As Ronan stepped into the room, he gently guided Cordelia to sit on the sofa and knelt down to

examine her foot. "You're packing without telling me? Let’s go home."

Ronan stood up, scooped Cordelia into his arms, and carried her down the stairs, ignoring Adrian and

Kendra completely.

Cordelia lived on the third floor, and Ronan carefully carried her down each step.

After remembering how he had carried her in the hospital, she felt warmth flooding in. She clung to his

neck, resting her head on his chest.

Ronan glanced down at her.

As they reached the stairwell, they encountered someone. Ronan frowned slightly before continuing

out with Cordelia in his arms.

Cordelia immediately recognized the man as Jamie. He looked rushed; he was probably on his way to

see Adrian, but why was he sweating so much? Was there an emergency?

Upon seeing Cordelia and Ronan, Jamie stopped in his tracks and turned to stare at them.

Ronan settled Cordelia in the car and noticed Jamie was still watching. He leaned in and planted a kiss

on her.

Cordelia felt a rush of heat and responded eagerly to his kiss as her arms tightly hugged his neck.

She knew Ronan was doing this to show Jamie their love, get him out of her hair, and satisfy his

possessive streak.

Ronan slid into the driver's seat and shot Jamie one last glance.

"Does your foot still hurt?" Ronan asked Cordelia after getting in the car.

"Not so much. You didn't have to do that, you know. There's really nothing between me and him."

Cordelia referred to the kiss, feeling a bit uneasy about it.

"What did I do?" Ronan laughed helplessly. "What’s your brother up to now? Why would he go to your

house?"

"I have no idea." Cordelia frowned, "Thanks, by the way."

"For what?" Ronan asked.

"For treating me with respect in front of them. Otherwise, my brother would keep thinking that we were

just pretending." Cordelia explained.

She might have sounded confident to Adrian, but she knew she was bluffing. If Ronan hadn't shown

up, she wouldn't have been able to prove her point.

Thankfully, he did!

"You're too polite." Ronan replied with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
