Chapter 123 Slow Down, Honey
Ranita backed away.
Brendon leaned closer again, his breath falling on her skin, causing an itchy sensation. She wanted to back away even more.
Her ears turned red.
"You... let go!" Ranita was a little annoyed by Brendon's actions.
"I'm really sorry." Brendon was a responsible person and always felt he owed something to Ranita. His voice became softer as he said, "Let me stay here today to take care of you! Tell me what you want to eat and I'll have someone make it for you."
It was the weekend anyway; there was no need to go to work. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
Ranita's heart throbbed fiercely.
She lowered her eyelids and teased him by asking, "Are you sure? What if Miss Murphy feels dizzy again or has a fever or pain in her hands or feet? Won't you go take care of her?"
Ranita was starting to dislike herself. She kept offering her sincere feelings only for them to be shattered time after time but she still couldn't let go.
"Ranita... are you jealous?" Brendon pinched her chin and forced her head up so she had no choice but look into his eyes that were black as night with curiosity written all over them.
Ranita felt stabbed in the heart; she could barely maintain expression on her face. "Mr. Stuart, are you kidding? How dare I be jealous?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Brendon's phone rang.
He took it out of his pocket and glanced at it; his expression changed slightly.
Curious about who called him this time around, Ranita peeked over and caught sight of the word "Shannon" on the screen which made her feel suffocated inside.
"Miss Murphy is looking for you, wouldn't you answer?"
Brendon frowned and hung up the phone, "I won't answer now since I agreed that I would stay here today to take care of you."
Suddenly, Ranita felt like her heart had flown away.
"Ring ring!"
Brendon's phone started ringing again, and he looked like it would explode if he didn't answer it this time around.
With drooping eyes, she said, "You should probably answer."
"Don't let Miss Murphy wait too long," Ranita said softly urging him along. She felt nauseous from all the ringing!
Brendon gave her a deep look before answering, "Shannon, is there something wrong?"
The phone transmitted Shannon's weak yet slightly panting crying voice, "Brendon... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to disturb your time with Ranita like this. I'm just too clumsy, I accidentally tore open my wound while walking in the garden…"
"The doctor helped me re-treat my wound, but it hurts so much! Can you come back and keep me company please? Without you, I can't even drink water."
Disgust surged up, and Ranita almost vomited on the spot. She was filled with anger, wrapping her arms around Brendon's neck and intentionally gasping for air, letting out a long breath. "Babe~ Slow down... I can't take it..." The scene fell silent.
Brendon stared at her with narrowed eyes, his palm burning hot as he pressed it against her lower back. He gave a firm squeeze and Ranita swallowed hard, blinking before letting out a soft moan. It was like being tickled by feathers - tantalizingly teasing.
On the other end of the phone line, Shannon finally seemed to realize what was happening and spoke in a choked voice. "Sorry... Brendon ... you're busy." And then she hung up urgently.
Ranita remained in Brendon's embrace as they locked eyes without speaking for some time. Regret filled Ranita's heart as she tried to explain herself through her muddled thoughts, "I'm sorry... just now I felt like Miss Murphy had an attitude problem..."
She puffed up her cheeks and pushed Brendon away forcefully while glaring at him, "I just couldn't stand how she talked! What are you going to do about it!?"
