Brendon frowned and his expression became emotional. NôvelDrama.Org © content.

"Shannon..."

"Brendon, I'm fine... I just got emotional, I'll be okay in a bit!" Shannon looked softly at Brendon with a voice that was both teary and intentionally playful, making one feel ticklish inside.

"Brendon, don't be difficult. Last time was just an accident... you don't have to carry the burden..." Shannon approached him boldly, pressing her body against his waist and even rubbing her chest against him.

Brendon discreetly dodged away.

"Shannon... about what happened last time, I haven't explained it clearly to you. I know using being drunk as an excuse is not acceptable, and I should take responsibility. However, I am currently married and may not be able to give you an explanation. But I will compensate you in other ways."

Brendon's decision to divorce was indeed partly due to Shannon, but not entirely.

Shannon's heart grew cold as she stared at the tall man with innocent eyes. Though her expression was hurt, her words were reasonable and understanding. "Brendon... I won't blame you... you are still married to Ranita now, and I won't ask for anything from you... and I also have a great responsibility."

"Brendon, I don't ask for anything. I just hope you won't distance yourself from me," Shannon said, her eyes turning red. "I always feel like a burden to you."

Brendon pursed his lips, reached out and rubbed her head, and made a noncommittal "Hmm" sound.

Without hesitation, she jumped into the lake to get Brendon back. She struggled and choked on water, but all she got was this result. Shannon couldn't accept it!

Outside on the balcony, Brendon furrowed his brow as he listened to Caleb's report. "Mr. Stuart, they found the person responsible for Miss Bowman's car accident. The driver who rear-ended her is a middle-aged man named Frederick Powell. He fled the scene after the accident and was caught by police early this morning."

"When they arrested him, he was sleeping in his room drunk," Caleb continued. "Based on his alcohol test and confession, police concluded that Frederick Powell had too much to drink and had hallucinations of chasing Miss Bowman's car before crashing into it."

Brendon listened with a raised eyebrow. "Did they investigate Frederick Powell's personal relationships?"

"Yes," Caleb replied quickly. "He has no grudges or disputes with Miss Bowman nor any financial issues with her." After a pause, Caleb added, "Frederick apologized sincerely and offered to pay for her hospital bills and car repairs..."

Brendon felt annoyed just as he was about to speak when suddenly there was a loud noise from inside Shannon's hospital room.

He turned around only to see Shannon sitting on the ground with teary eyes looking at him through the glass window.

"Take care of that," Brendon put away his phone then helped Shannon up while asking, "What happened? Why are you so careless?"

"I... I need to go use the restroom..." Shannon lowered her head in submission then asked softly, "... Were you talking with Ranita earlier?"

"She's injured, and there's no one to take care of her... Brendon, maybe you should go back and take care of Ranita! I'm fine now. If you stay here, I'm afraid Ranita will be angry with me again."

Shannon noticed that Brendon's expression was a bit serious, so she immediately put on a helpless look and spoke with a pretended strength, "Without you, Brendon, I'm very sad, can't eat or drink properly... But all of that doesn't matter. I have Holly by my side, my aunt, and many other people taking care of me. You don't need to worry about me."
