Chapter 164 Jealousy

In Ranita's impression, Brendon wasn't someone who would pester others incessantly.

This was too much!

He could make so many phone calls; he probably cared about her quite deeply? But what she wanted wasn't just care…

Ranita lost all of her temper from being kissed by him.

"Brendon... let go... if there's something to say then just say it without touching me." Although Ranita still had an expressionless face when she spoke these words, her voice had softened.

Brendon grabbed onto her arm while staring at her intensely with his dark eyes. "If I don't kiss you, will you listen quietly while I talk?"

Ranita gritted her teeth in anger.

"Let go!"

They'd lived together for several years now; they'd spent every day together. She understood too well how his gaze changed over time...

"Today, Miss Murphy is being discharged from the hospital, and you're not there to accompany her. Why did you come over to see me?" Ranita's tone made her feel embarrassed as she sounded jealous, like a canary vying for affection.

She pushed him aside and started packing her things. Brendon leaned against the table, watching her, and even lightly licked his lips as if savoring the recent kiss. After a while, he explained slowly,

"Shannon has many people with her, and she doesn't need me."

"Why did Steve go looking for you at the resort then?"

Ranita stopped packing up when she heard this question before looking up at him saying, "I'm not feeling well so Dr. Pearson came over to check on me."

"Are you feeling unwell? Where does it hurt? Why did you go to Steve instead of telling me?" Brendon asked, sounding a bit angry. Before, she had preferred to bother Dylan rather than have him take her to the hospital.

Did she not want to talk about it? Thinking back on that phone call now made her sick, so maybe it was better not to bring it up.

"Shouldn't you see a doctor if you're feeling unwell?"

"Yes! So where does it hurt?"

Ranita thought about her still-aching leg and sat down on the couch, stretching out her right leg in front of her. "It's cramping."

"It still hurts now? Do you want me to massage it for you?" Brendon said softly as Ranita spoke the last few words almost inaudibly.

Inside, Ranita was filled with hope but also afraid of getting too hopeful and being disappointed later.

"Okay!" Brendon sat next to her and grabbed hold of Ranita's leg, placing it on top of his. He gently massaged the calf muscle with his fingers. "Is this where it hurts?"

"In high school once I got a cramp from sitting under an air conditioner that was too strong," Brendon said as he continued massaging.

Ranita had seen pictures of him when he was younger in his study before; he looked much younger then with chubby cheeks like milk buns – so handsome! Thinking about this made Ranita's eyes shine brighter than before.

"Oh really? Does that hurt?"

"It hurts..." After pausing for a moment, Brendon squeezed one of Ranita's fingers and spoke in a low voice, "I'm sorry I shouldn't have left."

Ranita's heart began hurting again at his words. He always said things like this but eventually abandoned her without hesitation anyway.

"What are we going to do about Miss Murphy over there? Aren't you going over there?" There was some sadness in Ranita's tone as she tried probing for answers; however no matter how hard she tried nothing ever worked out well for herself anyway.

Brendon looked at her thoughtfully trying to think how best answer could be given when suddenly the doorbell rang. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

"I'll go check!" Not daring listen any further or hear what he would say next, Ranita ran towards the door which opened only slightly before being pushed open forcefully by an immense force.

The door banged loudly against its hinges while Holly's angry curses followed, "Ranita!! You shameless fox spirit! I finally caught up with you! Tell me - did you order someone else intentionally hit Shannon?"
