Chapter 132
“How should I know?” Kent whispered too, “Got a call at noon, seemed to relate to Sophia or something. No idea what happened, but he left without even attending the shareholders’ meeting. He was out and about for most of the day, and when he came back, he was like this.”
Kent was filled with questions as he said this.
When Brandon came back in the evening, he looked no different than usual, just a bit distracted while working.
It wasn’t often that he was spaced out.
But the thing about this kind of daydreaming was that it was so subtle they couldn’t catch a hint of what was on his mind.
Kent could only sense that Brandon wasn’t in high spirits.
Don seemed to catch the drift. “Is it something to do with Sophia again?”
Kent glanced at him. “Other than her, who else do you think can mess with my boss’s mood?”
That was spot on.
If Kent hadn’t seen with his own eyes how Brandon and Sophia were together at the restaurant that day, he wouldn’t have believed Sophia could affect Brandon’s mood.
“What happened to Sophia?” Don asked, feeling as Sophia’s boss he should show some concern.
“I haven’t got a clue.”
Kent really didn’t know, he just remembered Brandon getting a call from Wye City, then seeing Brandon repeatedly redialing, his face shifting from calm to increasingly anxious. When he was restless, his call was returned.
Kent clearly saw Brandon’s face relax with relief, but in less than two minutes, Brandon’s expression darkened abruptly/he stood up, and then hurried out in a frenzy.
“Why not just ask?” Don grumbled, then stood up and knocked on the door, “What’s up? You’ve been zoning out for ages.”
Brandon was propping his forehead with one hand, and lazily looked up at him. “What brings you here?”
“Got off work and had nothing to do, so I swung by to check on you,” Don said as he approached, adding, “Single life, no nightlife.” “So what?”
“Thought about hitting up the other single dudes for drinks and a heart-to-heart. Of course, the real deal is hoping for a lucky encounter.” “Not interested.”
“But you’ve got time to daydream, right? Why not go out and see if you bump into someone new, right?” Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
Brandon gave him a look, closed the file in his hand, stood up and said, “Let’s go.”
Don was speechless.
“Really?” He was just throwing it out there, not expecting Brandon to be interested in meeting new people.
Brandon just calmly glanced at him. “Any problem?”
Don couldn’t help but exchange a look with Kent, “Did something rattle you today?”
“Nothing.” Brandon said, already heading towards the coat rack to grab his suit, slipping into it as he walked out, “Let’s go.”
Don, equally surprised, exchanged another glance with Kent, tentatively asking, “What about that blind date thing we talked about? Should I set it up?” Brandon paused for a moment.
“Set it up.” He said, and then emotionlessly continued towards the elevator.
Don hurried after him, not forgetting to turn back and whisper to Kent, “Looks like he’s really been shaken up.”
Kent whispered back. “Told you so.”
And quickly gathered his things to follow.
The place Don chose for dinner was a restaurant with live music.
As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, Don grabbed a few bottles of booze, poured some drinks, and tentatively asked Brandon. “I heard Sophia had some trouble today?”
Brandon glanced at Kent.
Kent immediately raised his hands to show his innocence. “I didn’t spill the beans.”
Don cut him off. “Who needs Kent to say anything, I’m Sophia’s boss after all, we have mutual friends.”
He still stumbled a bit over the name.
Then he couldn’t help but ask Brandon. “What happened to her? Is it serious?”
Brandon just glanced back. “You’re her boss, you’ve got mutual friends. Don’t you know what happened to her?”
Don was speechless.
‘Okay, I admit it, I pressed Kent into telling me,” Don owned up, “Wh

Don and Kent both were taken aback, looked at each other, then back at him. “Then why are you here alone?”
“Someone’s with her.”
Don, watching Brandon’s expression carefully. “Boyfriend?”
“Not yet.” Brandon said, “But probably soon.”
Don and Kent exchanged another look.
Kent carefully broached. “You’re okay with that?”
“What’s there to mind?” Brandon grabbed a bottle and poured himself a drink, “It’s good if she finds someone she likes. I wish her happiness.”
Don and Kent’s eyes met once again in silent consensus.
Don chuckled and changed the subject. “That’s good. Everyone has to start over at some point. Speaking of which, I was gonna set you up with someone, see, I got so busy I forgot. I’ll call her right now.”
Saying this, he took out his phone to make a call.
Kent, however, was panicking, kicking Don under the table to prevent him from causing more trouble at this moment, his eyes anxiously on Brandon.
Brandon remained indifferent, holding his drink but not sipping, just gently swirling the liquid in his glass, his eyes calmly fixed on the stage.
The singer on stage was performing a song called “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” just hitting the climax.
“We are never, ever, ever getting back together
We are never, ever, ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never, ever, ever, ever getting back together
Like, ever”
The poignant melody coupled with the singer’s magnetic voice unexpectedly carried a touch of melancholy.
Kent couldn’t help but glance at the stage, and suddenly, with a “thud,” Brandon set his glass down on the table.
“I’m taking off.”
With a nonchalant remark dropped, Brandon turned on his heel and bolted, his steps swift as if catching the wind, a subtle urgency in his pace. Don and Kent exchanged glances, at a loss for words.
