Chapter 137
Sophia totally spaced out for a second there.
Brandon didn’t give her a chance to react. Slipping his long fingers into her hair and applying just a touch of pressure, Sophia was compelled to tilt her head back. Brandon’s lips and tongue claimed hers with a gentle yet dominant force that left no room for refusal.
The hand Sophia had initially pushed against his chest suddenly went limp and a bit flustered.”
Brandon’s kisses grew hotter and deeper, their heavy breathing sounding through the dark room as their embrace spiraled out of control. The hand in her hair grew restless, tightening its grip, while the hand on Sophia’s waist began to curl uncontrollably.
Sophia could distinctly feel her shirt tightening across her back, her slender waist arching as his kisses deepened.
The hand that was supposed to push him away was now, somehow, hooked around his neck..
What started as an unconscious closeness turned into a wildfire.
Their entwined kisses evolved into a devouring feast.
Brandon’s kisses wandered from her lips to her sensitive neck, his hands, now out of control, slipped beneath her clothes just as the door suddenly swung open.
The two, locked in their unrestrained kiss, froze abruptly.
Brandon flipped over to lie flat on his back, while Sophia awkwardly turned away, panting in short breaths.
The nurse came in to check on the room, remembering only at the door that she had just removed Sophia’s IV earlier. After making sure Sophia was alright and giving some advice, she left.
The room fell silent once more.
So quiet they could hear their still uneven breathing, a mess laced with intimacy, reminding each other of the earlier lack of control.
Sophia didn’t make a sound.
Neither did Brandon.
As their breathing gradually steadied, Sophia heard Brandon’s husky voice. “Let’s get some sleep.”
“Mhm,” Sophia murmured in agreement, still awkwardly facing away from Brandon.
After covering her with a blanket, Brandon didn’t speak again.
Nor did Sophia.
She didn’t know when she fell asleep, but she slept heavily through the latter part of the night and woke up to a bright new day.
Brandon had already gotten up, brought her breakfast, and was standing to the side, unpacking the food from the delivery bag. Seeing her awake, he said calmly, “Go freshen up. Have some breakfast, and then it’s time for your medication.”
As if last night’s chaos had never happened.
Sophia, keeping a lid on thoughts of last night’s kiss, nodded lightly.
After she was done freshening up, Brandon had breakfast ready.
It was a nutritious porridge with eggs, milk, and corn stuff that didn’t require any tableware. Sophia could handle it with her left hand, no need for Brandon’s help.
Brandon didn’t insist either. He ate breakfast with her at a leisurely pace but showed no signs of leaving.
Sophia knew he was busy with work.
Still, she couldn’t help but urge him, “Maybe you should head to work. The caregiver is here during the day..I’ll be fine.”
“No need,” Brandon replied in his calm tone, busy tidying up without looking at her, “Don’t worry about me. It’s not like anyone dares to dock my pay.”
Sophia didn’t press further.
Right then, a knock sounded at the door.
With a “Come in” from Brandon, Kent entered the room.
“Mr. Crawley, I’ve brought your laptop and clothes,” Kent said as he handed over Brandon’s laptop. Then, with an awkward chuckle, he greeted the figure in the hospital bed, “Hello, Ms. Yearwood.”
Sophia returned the greeting politely, “Hello, Kent.”
Kent’s gaze lingered on the bandage wrapped around Sophia’s arm before he asked her, “Feeling better today?”
“Yes, much better, thank you, Kent,” Sophia replied with a smile.
After exchanging pleasantries and giving Brandon a brief work update, Kent excused himself.
Brandon settled into the hospital routine, having a cot delivered for himself, but as always, he was busy, and their interactions were minimal.
Whether it was mealtime, medication reminders, or dealing with checkups and doctors, Brandon took care of everything personally, with the same attention to detail as before.
It was as if the whole divorce thing had never happened between them.
But while Brandon acted as if nothing was amiss, Sophia couldn’t embrace it so casually.

“Why do you still treat me so well? We’re not even friends anymore, let alone married. You have no obligation to care for me,” Sophia finally asked on the fourth day when the doctor said she could be discharged, watching Brandon patiently discuss her situation with the doctor.
Brandon paused, then turned to look at Sophia, “Habit, I guess.”
Sophia pursed her lips, “It’s been two years. Haven’t you kicked the habit yet?”
The corners of Brandon’s mouth twitched slightly, and when he looked at her again, his face had calmed, “Sophia, not everyone can let go as easily as you say you can.”
Sophia looked at him, puzzled.
Brandon continued, “Don’t look at me like that. Sophia, you don’t hate me, but sometimes, I…
He thought, “I hate you.”
He didn’t finish his sentence, switching topics instead, “What’s your plan after getting discharged?”
“I need to go back to Wye City,” Sophia said, “I rushed back last time and there’s a lot I need to sort out there first.”
Brandon nodded, “And what about work?”
He was referring to whether she’d join the branch office and continue with the Zenithan-style resort project.
“How about I give it a try?” Sophia considered.
Brandon glanced at her, “Is it to repay me? Or because of Ivan? Do you think he was right?”
Sophia wasn’t sure if it was some kind of repayment.
“I don’t know,” she admitted, “But it has nothing to do with my senior.”
Ivan and Sophia were in the same college and same major. He was her senior. Every time Brandon heard Sophia affectionately call Ivan’s name, he found he didn’t like that intimacy.
It felt like she and Ivan were the ones who truly belonged together.
Brandon squashed that knee-jerk resistance that bubbled up with the formality of the address, and looked at her coolly, “You weigh it out for yourself.” He then asked, “What time’s your flight? I’ll give you a lift.”
“Tomorrow morning.”
Brandon nodded, “I’ll pick you up at the hotel.”
Sophia gave a nod in return.
Brandon didn’t say anything more and turned around to start packing for her.
Watching his busy profile, Sophia hesitated for a moment before asking, “Brandon, do you ever think about remarrying?” This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Brandon paused mid-action.
