Chapter 321
Sexton snorted disdainfully. "Peregrine, I don't want to start a fight on a day like this, but if you disturbed the memorial service, you're cutting yourself out of the Pollack family for good."
It was a clear threat to ostracize Peregrine from the Pollack family!
Jacob's voice was cold. "Elara is my daughter, and Noella is Palmer's fiancée. What's the problem with them being here?"
Peregrine took a puff from his cigar, letting it dangle from his lips. "Ha, since when did you have another kid? If she’s not in the family tree, she's not legitimate. And since when did Ms. Noella Schnabel ever acknowledge the engagement? Palmer, you come from a decent family. Ms. Schnabel never treated you like one of hers."
Noella raised an eyebrow coldly.
The Pollack family was indeed a den of vipers, each harboring their own agendas, eager to knock Palmer off his pedestal at the Pollack Group. Yet, aside from Sexton, none of them had any real interest in the family business. It was Palmer's efforts alone that had grown the Pollack Group into the towering enterprise it was today!
Noella smirked. "And what makes you think I don't acknowledge the engagement? Did I tell you that? Or was it you moonlighting as a fortune teller? With such skill, you might as well set up shop under a bridge instead of disrupting proceedings here." Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Peregrine was indeed there to stir trouble.
"Ms. Schnabel, such a sharp tongue. Does Mr. Schnabel know?"
"My Dad and Granddad are on their way here. If you're interested, I can arrange for you to have a drink with them."
Larson chimed in from the back. "Ms. Schnabel, I heard you're not fond of Palmer. If that's the case, why waste his time?"
Noella glanced at Larson lightly. Just as Palmer was about to speak, Noella's voice, calm yet laced with amusement, cut through.
"How do you know I don't like him? Is fortune-telling your hobby too?"
Noella's smile was icy as she intertwined her fingers with Palmer's.
The moment their hands locked, Palmer's eyes gleamed with wild joy!
Standing next to Palmer, Noella could hear his heart pounding, a rapid, drum-like rhythm. His whole being radiated an indescribable joy and disbelief!
It seemed her choice wasn't wrong after all. Noella lifted their entwined hands. "I don't dislike him. As Palmer's fiancée, I believe my presence here is completely justified."
Elara, standing by their side, covered her mouth and silently moved closer to Jacob. Even as a bystander, she was moved by her sister's bold and direct confession of her feelings for Palmer!
Palmer could hardly believe his ears. "Noella, you said... what?"
"I won't repeat myself."
"You said you like me! Is that true? You won't regret it?"
Noella gazed into Palmer's eyes. Her feelings weren't a whim, nor were they out of pity for Palmer being all alone in the world!
Falling in love wasn’t a singular moment but a tapestry woven from countless shared experiences - from their first encounter at the border to countless covert competitions.
In the midst of a world ablaze with lights, Palmer always lingered in the twilight, solely for her. Whenever he looked at her, his eyes held nothing but her image. Amid the ebb and flow of trivial grievances, Palmer remained a steadfast presence, always ready to extend his hand in support.
It was after discovering their deep, soulful connection that Noella suddenly realized, missing out on Palmer might be her biggest regret!
Seeing the dynamics within the Pollack family today, Noella realized her presence wasn't about some trivial engagement. Engagements, to her or the Schnabel family, were no shackles.
She was here, all because of Palmer!
Only after arriving did Noella see that Palmer, like her, was fighting against the currents within a vast family.
Surrounded by people who couldn't offer warmth, yet he had given all his tenderness and warmth to her!
Noella tightened her grip on Palmer's hand. "I won't do anything I'll regret, so if you ever betray me, I'll kill you. Palmer, I'm not known for my patience. If we're together, you can only have eyes for me!"
Feeling Noella's resolve, Palmer felt a rush of happiness so intense, he thought his heart might burst!
"Okay! Don’t worry, I won't give you the opportunity to kill me."
Noella lifted her gaze and murmured softly. "Also, your dad was mistaken; it’s not that I don’t want to deal with you."
At most, she found Palmer a tad bothersome, disrupting her work, so she casually blocked him a few times.
"Mm, he was mistaken," Palmer responded.
Noella raised an eyebrow. "Cat got your tongue? Are you a parrot?"
"I'm just too thrilled; everything you say is correct, I'll just listen to you!" He chuckled softly, his joy reaching every part of him, a sense of completeness he'd never felt before. If not for the surrounding crowd, he'd have drawn Noella close for a heartfelt talk. He had never felt so elated!
Sensing Palmer's happiness, Noella smiled too. She tilted her chin up, facing the somewhat intrusive crowd gathered around them. "I can't stand them, so I'm planning to take care of them once and for all!"
Palmer's gaze shifted towards the distant relatives of the Pollack family, his eyes regaining their icy edge. "You're not welcome here. If you can't understand human language, then I won't waste my words!"
Peregrine snorted coldly. "What do you want to do about it? I'm already here; you can't possibly kick me out!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a dozen bodyguards emerged from seemingly nowhere, surrounding the Pollack family's distant relatives. The bodyguards, sporting sunglasses, didn't advance but each had a leash attached to a snarling Mastiff!
From the crowd, disguised Ivan pulled out a specially made spray and started frantically spraying Peregrine and his companions!
A pungent odor assaulted their nostrils, akin to rotten fish and spoiled shrimp mixed with an indescribably foul stench, making them nauseous.
Larson, covering his nose, frowned and said, "Did you just fart? Why does it smell so bad? What the hell did you eat for lunch!"
As Ivan sprayed towards Larson's face, he murmured disdainfully, "Why is he so greedy? Isn't smelling it enough? Why is he asking for the recipe?"
Larson's mouth was filled with a smell so overpowering it seemed to pierce his brain, making him double over and retch!
Finding a gap, Ivan rolled out of the crowd and sat at Noella's feet, signaling her with a gesture.
"Mission accomplished! Boss, this concoction is a Mastiff's favorite. Since they can't understand human language, let's see if they can understand dogs’!"
The surrounding Mastiffs, attracted by the scent unbearable to humans but irresistible to them, turned their eyes blood red with excitement.
