Chapter 346
"Is Cosmo trying to be the king of the hill here at the office? Maybe I should throw him a coronation ceremony?"
The security guard was taken aback when he spotted Noella in the backseat! He definitely knew what the new boss who had just parachuted into the company today looked like.
The moment he laid eyes on Noella, the security guard hustled to the front window.
"Cosmo, behind us is Ms. Noella's ride..."
Cosmo was fuming! "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
He was fine with throwing his weight around in the office in secret. But Noella wasn't just any parachuted leader; she was the bona fide Ms. Schnabel, and it certainly wasn't his place to show attitude.
The person in the passenger seat, the head of HR, said nonchalantly, "So what?"
Cosmo muttered some choice words under his breath. "You don't get it, do you? Making a mistake within the company is one thing; that's just a matter of smoothing things over between ranks. But outside, I wouldn't have enough lives to mess with the Schnabel family!"
Inside the company, he and Noella were merely the design director and the boss.
Outside, he was just a middle-class guy, and the Schnabels were top-tier tycoons, way out of his league!
Cosmo wasn't where he was by being clueless. He quickly unbuckled his seat belt, got out of the car, and jogged over, wearing a sheepish smile.
"Sorry for the inconvenience, Ms. Noella. I'll move my car right away."
Noella chuckled softly and beckoned Cosmo closer. Only then did Cosmo feel the chill emanating from her!
"Cosmo, parking spots don't matter, but I'm not fond of your attitude."
"It's all because my subordinates don't know any better, Ms. Noella. I'll replace them right away. Merrick said laying off staff was out of kindness, but it turns out we've been harboring some blind parasites..."
Palmer, standing beside Noella, chuckled softly.
Only now did Cosmo notice the young man next to Noella!
Palmer was dressed in an elegant vintage suit, his tie clip adorned with top-grade rubies, and every piece of his attire, from cufflinks to watch, screamed wealth and class.
This man radiated an untouchable air of dominance!
Seeing how close he was with Noella, Cosmo could easily guess his identity - he helmsman of the Pollack Group!
One Schnabel family was trouble enough for Cosmo; another Pollack on top of that, and he worried he wouldn't live to see the next sunrise.
Palmer sneered, "I see, you're the parasite! A mere design director, blocking my car? That's a first!"
Annie chimed in, "Mr. Pollack, the last person who blocked your car is still in the hospital."
Cosmo shivered in fear!Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
Palmer scoffed disdainfully. "Cosmo? I'll remember you."
Noella glanced at Cosmo, "What? Still blocking the way? Were you hoping to join us for dinner?"
Cosmo indeed wished, but he lacked the courage!
"Not at all, I'll move my car right away!"
After Cosmo moved his car, Annie drove off, followed by several cars honking in approval, some even giving her thumbs up!
Someone stuck their head out, "That was epic!"
They were all tired of Cosmo hogging the lane every time they left work. Always blocking the way without a care for anyone behind him, acting as if he owned the lane.
Annie shrugged, "Well, he was blocking the way for my boss and the lady boss, wasn't he?"
Noella pulled out her phone and called Marisol. "Set up an anonymous reporting email, with rewards for public and confirmed anonymous reports."
"Right away, Ms. Noella. I'll contact the tech department immediately."
"No need, I've already created the program. Just send it out."
Noella wasn't one to ask the tech team to burn the midnight oil, especially when they couldn't match her efficiency.
Marisol was moved! "Ms. Noella, you're too kind!"
Choosing not to make others work late and doing it himself!
Upon receiving the program, Marisol was astounded by its completeness, impossible to tell it was a last-minute job.
"Ms. Noella, you must've spent a lot of time on this app, right?"
"Twenty minutes, is that long?"
Considering it was enough time for Noella to get from the office to home, it did seem quite lengthy.
Marisol was speechless. "Twenty minutes... to complete such a complex program?"
Indeed, the Schnabels were all geniuses, playing a different league on Earth.
Once the app was launched and Marisol showcased Noella's task on the company's internal bulletin, it was bound to be a sleepless night.
...
At the Schnabel Manor.
Concerned about Marcel's spirits, Sienna made a point to invite Sexton and Helen over as well.
Hearing about the previous day's events, Sexton seemed lost in thought.
"You're saying... what exactly is Garrick plotting?"
Helen scoffed, "Some people are just twisted. A young weirdo grows up to be an old weirdo."
In her view, Garrick was simply psychologically warped, unable to stand seeing others happy.
"He just didn't want Harriet to marry Marcel, that's all. The way he looked at Harriet wasn't much different from how you two did."
Sexton responded irritably, "Why bring that up again? It's all in the past, and I've told you, Harriet never crossed my mind again!"
"Who you think about is none of my business." Helen remained unyielding.
In front of the younger members of the family, Sexton chose not to argue further with the old lady.
Every time they brought up Harriet, it was like lighting the fuse to a bomb!
Malvina quickly took Helen's hands, trying to smooth things over.
"Grandma Helen, let bygones be bygones!"
"It's in the past, sure, but I just... feel bad for Harriet, that's all!"
Helen looked down, a nostalgic shadow crossing her face. "Sometimes I wonder, if Harriet had fallen for Sexton instead of marrying Marcel, maybe her life would've been a bit rosier. But as for me... well, it is what it is!"
Sexton seemed taken aback by her words!
Helen shook her head. "You think I cared about all that? Marrying you, I was under no illusions! I, Helen, didn’t marry for love; it was more about seeing a good-hearted fool with a fat wallet. Compared to those fleeting romances, what I value more is character!"
Helen admired Harriet for exactly that! The courage to love fiercely and the determination to strive, it was only natural that the young bucks of her day were drawn to her!
Besides it seemed like Sexton's days were numbered, and she didn't want to sour his mood with harsh words at this stage. But there was a part of her that was selfishly hopeful.
She wished that when her husband finally rode off into the sunset, he'd have her in his thoughts!
"Put yourself in her shoes; with Harriet's fiery nature, she probably wouldn't have enjoyed my kind of life. That's why I asked Noella, that dear girl, if she truly loves Palmer!"
