Chapter 354
Garrick's mind had become utterly obsessed with rebooting the Polaris Star Project.
The thought made him incredibly bitter.
"If it hadn't been for... stepping down, I wouldn't have been kicked out of the Polaris Star Project. Those old fools deserve to rot!"
Noella knew that Garrick had been ousted by the old guard of the Polaris Star.
With their backers pulling out and chaos reigning within, Garrick had no choice but to withdraw.
Nolan flipped Garrick the bird.
"Despicable old geezer."
If it weren't for Garrick, they wouldn't have ended up orphans!
Just seeing Garrick's face made them want to hurl!
And now he had the audacity to consider exhuming Harriet's grave to see what was inside her head.
Disgusting!
That old coot actually thought Noella could take all of Polaris Star's talents because Harriet had taken some secret weapon?
But it was all Noella's doing, conquering them one by one!
Every member of the Polaris Star was a genius, with the willpower to survive those inhuman experiments!
And yet, Noella had bested them all.
Garrick had been investigating the current members of the Polaris Star.
He realized that rebooting the project would be too costly, and it was better to just train the current members!
Cassius was seething.
"I was so close to success, but the Schnabel family wouldn't cooperate, or else I could have taken the grave...”
Garrick replied irritably, "Do you think Marcel is an idiot? I was counting on having Elara work for me, and you've messed it up!"
Garrick had always admired Elara for her brains!
So young and already shining in the field of science, if he could have her intellect under his control, he'd exploit it ruthlessly!
Thinking about his experiments, Garrick's spirits soared.
"Noella's got a sharp mind too, pity... she's too rebellious! The Schnabel family too, their sons would have made excellent specimens."
Thinking about the Schnabel kids, Garrick's eyes gleamed with a fanatical obsession.
Such talents, but Marcel was too old-fashioned, refusing to send his grandsons for experimentation. Otherwise, the Polaris Star's brilliance would be unmatched!
Suddenly, Garrick and his companions felt the ground give way beneath them!
It was as if they had stepped on something soft, and amid a whirlwind of confusion, a series of screams erupted.
"Ah ah ah—"
"Garrick, are you okay?"
When Garrick opened his eyes, he found himself having stepped into a trap, with everyone sprawled in disarray.
His head was buzzing! This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
"Who dug a hole here? How could there be a hole out of nowhere!"
And not just any hole, but a massive one. Not very wide, but incredibly deep.
At least ten feet deep, Garrick felt like he had broken every bone in his body!
From above, a light laugh echoed.
Noella was squatting at the edge, resting her chin on her hands, looking down at Garrick in the pit.
"Oh my, if it isn't Garrick? What's this, a fall outing? Why stray from the path, preferring wild adventure? Quite the taste for the wilderness!"
Wilderness?
She calls this wilderness? They had clearly fallen into a trap she had dug!
In that moment, Garrick realized it was all Noella's doing.
"Outrageous! Pull us up now!"
Noella chuckled.
"Sure, then I'll just have to report you for trespassing in a private cemetery. This hillside happens to be mine."
To ensure Grandma Harriet rested in peace, Noella had bought all the uninhabited hills around the Schnabel family cemetery.
Garrick gritted his teeth.
He had no choice but to play along with Noella's narrative, despite the pain.
"We indeed came for... a fall outing, just got lost, no harm meant. Please, let us up."
"A fall outing? Then stay in the pit for a while, enjoy the unique experience."
Noella stood up, dusting her hands.
Her gaze was scornful, her demeanor indifferent.
"Garrick, just so you know, if you dare touch my grandma, whatever discomfort she feels, you'll feel tenfold!"
Realizing Noella had overheard his earlier words, Garrick's expression darkened.
"To stand against me, are you sure? I could give you the Polaris Star, or leave you with nothing!"
"Pathetic threat."
Noella didn't mince words. "Since Garrick loves to defy age, let him climb out on his own. Oh, and I've left some little creatures in the pit for you, enjoy your fall outing."
Seeing the expression on Noella's face, Garrick felt a chill down his spine!
Turning around, he saw several snakes hissing at them!
With their triangular heads and vivid colors, they were clearly venomous. Noella hadn't just dug a trap; she played a deadly game with them.
Regardless of Garrick's regrets, Noella walked away.
Horatio followed closely behind.
"Those snakes look scary, but Garrick should be able to climb out. What if he goes after Harriet again?"
Horatio knew how much Noella cared for Harriet.
"Grandma was cremated. What could Garrick possibly learn from her ashes?"
"Why didn't you say so earlier?"
Seeing Noella's reaction, Horatio almost thought Harriet had been buried in the ground!
Noella responded with a tone that was neither here nor there, "If I hadn't led him on, how would Garrick have made his move? And if he hadn't made his move, how would I have found the chance to strike back?"
It was then Horatio realized, Noella was setting a trap for Garrick!
A scream cut through the air not far ahead!
"Help! Helen, you're a madwoman! Help!"
"You're committing murder!"
Noella gave Horiotio a look, "Let's check it out."
"Is Helen a common name around here? Why does it seem everyone shares the same name as my senior?"
"Are you dense? We're near Grandma Helen's nursing home, obviously they're calling for Grandma Helen!"
It's not like we're on a busy street to bump into someone with the same name by such a slim chance!
"Fair point!"
While patting his bald head, Horatio followed Noella towards the direction of the screams.
The continuous screams sounded all too familiar.
Indeed, it was Ashlyn who was wailing miserably.
Under the scorching sun, Helen was lazily sitting on a rocking chair, enjoying the cool breeze.
Ashlyn was laid out under the sun, hands and feet tied, unable to move!
Despite it being autumn, the sun was still fiercely hot, scalding the skin of those not under the shade.
Ashlyn felt her skin burning!
"Helen, you better let me go! If you kill me, I'll haunt you as a ghost!"
Helen, holding an elegant fan, fanned herself gracefully.
"You might want to think about how many ghosts won't let you off the hook once you're down there! There's a whole crowd waiting for you at the River Styx."
Ashlyn, who had been superstitious all her life, turned pale at these words!
