Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Ethan's POV
"You are fired. Get out right now." I say in a calm voice staring at the girl, caked up with makeup. She
looks at me in disbelief.
"I am so sorry, sir. Please give me another chance." She says in a crying voice.
I blow out a breath and close the shitty presentation file she just brought. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
"I don't give second chances. What I say is what I do. So don't make me angrier and just leave."
Saying that I give her a 'look' and that is enough for her. She immediately leaves the office.
Sighing, I put my head in my hands, exhausted. This is the fourth person I fired today. Yes, I fire people
every now and then but today it crossed the limits. I'm so fucking tired right now.
I hear the door open and look up to see Matt entering inside with a worried look on his face.
"What happened? A girl got out of here crying, I saw." He asks, settling him down on the chair.
"I fired her," I reply as he shakes his head, disappointingly.
"Reason?"
"She showed me a shit kinda presentation," I say, innocent.
He sighs and rubs his face with his hands.
"What have you started Ethan?" He asks me.
Without answering, I get up and walk towards the window, stuffing my hands into the pockets. I look
down at the busy road and let out a huge breath.
Damn
It feels like shit.
So damn shit.
Something is distracting me. I am here but my mind is somewhere else. I have never had distractions
in my life. Once I was up to do something, I finished that before anything. And now, I can't even
concentrate on my work. For only one sphere second, she doesn't leave my mind.
What's happening, God?
Why can't I stop my mind from thinking of her?
Those enchanting eyes, that heart-melting smile, strawberry smell... Everything is so perfect.
Oh no, I am again thinking of her.
Shit, I am going crazy.
Some changes come in life without any hints. We don't want them, we can't stop them either. Who
knew that one deal would change my life like this? Now it feels like it would have been better if I didn't
meet her. Change is not in my character but I am changing slowly...by her.
I feel someone's presence behind me and Matt taps on my shoulder causing me to turn around. He
gives me the same questioning look he has been giving for some days.
"What?" I ask, my voice is tired.
"Are you thinking of a certain someone?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.6
Why do friends always get to understand everything?
I shake my head, "I am not thinking of anyone."
"Whatever makes you happy but I know what I know." He smirks.
I roll my eyes and go back to my desk.
"And might I ask, does she have blue-greenish eyes?"
His sudden question makes me snap my head towards him as my eyes go wide. He gives me a
haughty smile, watching me playfully.
This is the reason why I feel like killing this idiot sometimes.
Blue greenish eyes? How could he guess I am thinking of Evelyn?
"What the hell! What do you mean by that? I told you I am not thinking of anyone. Will you just get out
of here? You are annoying me!" I shout, hiding the nervousness.
"Woah Woah, why so angry dude? There are millions of girls with blue-greenish eyes. Does that mean
I am heading to the right point?"
"Matt, just shut up! I'm not thinking of Evelyn." I blurt out and then realize what I did.
"Gotcha!" Matt screams, throwing his hand up in the ear like a baby who got candy, and jogs towards
me with an irritating smile plastered on his face.
Shit!
"So... Mr. Ethan Jones, since when did you start to think about one certain girl? Even in the work time?
What a shame!" He chuckles, earning a glare from me.
DAMNIT!
How could I say her name?
"Listen, Matt. I don't..."
"Ethan!" Matt cuts me off, walking towards me, his face serious all of a sudden.
He puts his hand on my shoulder as he continues, "I am not surprised because I guessed it long ago. I
just needed to be sure."
What does he mean?
How could he know?
"Matt, you... why did you think that?" I ask slowly, bothered by the fact that his guessing is right.
I take my suit jacket off the couch and wear it. For the three years, I have been working as the CEO, I
never left the office before the work time was finished. But now I am going to do it. Not a surprise
though. When the person himself changes, rules are nothing.
I look back at Matt to see him give me a knowing smile.
"You wanted to know why I thought that, huh? Look at yourself. The one who spends the whole night
working in his office, now leaving before the work time is over? Do you know how you look at Evelyn?
Maybe you don't notice, but I did. You look at her as if she's the only one in the world. You seem lost
every time she's around you. From the moment you met her, you are acting weird. Maybe I didn't say
anything but I did notice everything." He says in a breath as I just look at him, shocked.
How do I look at her? I don't know.
"If that's the truth, then tell me why I am doing this," I ask to which he smiles at me, genuine.
"Maybe I know the answer but are you sure you want to hear?"
Yes, I want to know the answer. This girl has been confusing me from the very first day. I don't even
know what I am doing and why. Matt is right. I can feel myself acting weird. I need to know it. I need to
know why I feel the way I feel for her.
I take a deep breath and nod, determined. "Yes."
Then he says something that I didn't imagine to ever hear even in my wildest dreams...
"You are falling for Evelyn."
