Chapter 146 Why Keep It a Secret
Neil gave Axel a ride back to Villa Rosa and asked him, “Axel, do you blame me for not letting you
stay?”
Axel obediently replied, “No, I don’t. I’m already content to be reunited with Mommy.”
He didn’t want to cause any trouble for Caroline and felt he could keep an eye on Evan better if he
stayed at Villa Rosa.
As long as Caroline refused to reunite with Evan, Axel was determined to intervene and prevent
any harm.
He was willing to do anything Caroline asked of him. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
After a brief silence, Neil said, “Axel, your mother and I are left with no other options. We can’t
disclose much to you. But you must believe that we care about you deeply.*
Axel couldn’t contain his happiness, realizing how much his mother truly cared for him.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but be curious about the situation between Evan and Caroline.
Evan returned home after Axel, who was visibly frightened by something.
Did Daddy find out that I went out? he wondered.
The fear on Axel’s face took Evan aback.
He suppressed his anger for Daniella, calmly approached Axel, and squatted. “Axel, why didn’t you.
tell me she hit you?”
Axel tightly clenched his clothes, and tears welled up in his eyes. “I would get beaten up if I told
you.”
Those words ignited a deep rage in Evan.
“I won’t let her hurt you again. I’ll take care of you from now on,” he reassured Axel, rubbing his
head affectionately and offering a charming smile.
Axel was stunned. It was the first time his father smiled at him.
He asked, “Daddy, you don’t hate me?”
Evan’s hands stiffened as his heart skipped a beat.
He had ignored Axel so much that he thought Evan hated him.
Evan hugged Axel. “Axel, I never hated you. The only person I hate is your mother”
Axel’s body was tense in Evan’s arms.
After a long while, his body slowly turned soft.
The next day, Caroline woke up to her phone ringing after a restless night.
She received the DNA test results from the hospital
Anxiously, she took a few deep breaths before opening the report.
Upon reading it, her defenses were shattered.
The series of number 9s left her breathless.
Overwhelmed with surprise and bitterness, she hugged her phone tightly and cried for a long
time.
Her child was still alive in the same city where she was.
With tear–filled eyes, she shared the good news with Lily, Neil, and Paige.
When Paige received the news, she was momentarily at a loss for words, sitting on her bed in
astonishment.
After a while, she regained her composure.
She then texted Caroline: [Are you sure you’re not going out to celebrate?]
Caroline couldn’t help but laugh.
Caroline: [We have to wait for Axel.]
Paige: [Of course! But I wonder if my boss knows this shocking news]
Caroline: [No, he would have come to me already if he knew.]
Paige was confused
Paige: [Why didn’t you tell him? It’s a perfect chance to put that pretentious person in her place.
It’s a pity to miss it!]
Caroline felt trepidation.
Caroline: [He doesn’t deserve to know. He doubted the children’s background and trusted Daniella
before he abandoned me]
Caroline: [And let’s not forget that it was because of him that I was locked up in prison]
