Clara lightly pressed her lips together. “Yes, this time Leah’s plan was really well thought out. How stupid was I? You kept telling me she wasn’t a good person, but I thought you were just biased against her or overly worried about me. I didn’t even notice her tricks right in front of me.”
“Never mind if you didn’t see it; I didn’t catch onto her ambition at first either. I thought she just wanted to squeeze you for some cash; I didn’t realize she actually had her eyes on Emmett.”
Elio angrily slammed his fist into the wall. “If I don’t make Leah pay, my life will be pointless. I’m going to tell Emmett everything now! Even if Emmett ends up hating me, I can’t let her get what she wants!”
Elio turned to leave, but Clara quickly grabbed him. “prash. Emmett’s drugged by Leah right now; what would it help if he knew? It would only make things worse. Just let Leah marry Emmett. I’ve let it go; why can’t you?”
“But she’s deceiving us!”
“So what if she is? We have to admit that we’ve lost. We were defeated by our own kindness and gullibility.”
“Do you accept this?!” Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Clara lowered her head. What could she do if she didn’t accept it?
“But…”
“Alright, once we’ve made a choice, there’s no turning back.” Clara pressed her lips together again. “You should go rest. I’ll feel better knowing the kids are safe back with the Melendez family. We can only hope Leah has the heart to return my children.”
Elio frowned. “Do you really think she’ll hand the kids over to you?”
“She should. At least she won’t keep the kids with her for too long.”
Elio lowered his head and said, “Alright, you should rest too. I need to go talk to Nestor.”
Clara nodded, not saying anything more.
At the hospital.
The doctor came out of the emergency room. He removed his mask and sighed. “Ah, is anyone here related to Leah?”
Sophia Melendez immediately got up and walked over. “I am! How is she doing now?”
“The patient is in a critical condition. She’s not out of danger yet. I need one of her family members to sign here.”
The doctor handed over the paperwork. Sophia quickly signed her name, then the doctor checked it and went back into the operating room.
Soon, Emmett appeared in the hospital. He strode straight over to Sophia, then looked up at the red light still on in the emergency room.
“Has she not come out yet?”
Sophia nodded and sighed, “No.”
She looked at her son, speaking earnestly, “Without her help, the children would be in danger. She saved Aiden and Alex! Now you should understand that a biological mother and a stepmother are not the same.”
Emmett knew she was referring to Clara. But even if Clara had hurt him, he didn’t want anyone badmouthing her behind her back; it didn’t sit well with him.
“I believe that if Clara were here, she would do the same.”
“Then she’s just pretending! She would just be playing the victim!” Sophia scoffed, “What? You still don’t get it? You still want to be with Clara?”
