#Chapter 72: Trick of ‘Killing Someone with a Borrowed Knife’
#Chapter 72: Trick of ‘Killing Someone with a Borrowed Knife’
The air in the room seemed to be frozen.
Greta wrapped her arms before her chest and stared at Lennon with her brows knitted.
Harriet, who was standing beside, glanced at Maxwell. No one knew what she was thinking.
She originally thought that Lennon purely wanted to thank Maxwell for having saved his life and this
was the reason why he had invited them to this luxurious private banquet.
But none of them had expected that Lennon actually had also invited Andreas and the other members
of the Sandoval family. What did he mean by doing this?
Silence prevailed in the room and there were only the clickety-clacking sounds of Andreas’ leather
shoes and the sound was getting louder and louder.
Andreas slowly approached the dining table. Seeing the gloomy expressions of Greta and Maxwell, a
meaningful smile flashed across his handsome face as he said, “Sorry to bother you, everyone. I
haven’t expected that Mr. Lennon would also invite us. It’s really my great honor.”
Greta wrapped her arms around herself and stared at Andreas’ handsome face. She now had the worst
impression of Andreas.
Maxwell turned around to look at Lennon and curled his lips into an unruly smile, “Mr. Lennon, do you
think that few people attending the banquet would appear to be quiet? If Mr. Lennon wants a lively
banquet, you can just tell me. I promise, I will have several sexy hostesses here and they will definitely
make you feel very comfortable.”
Lennon’s expressions froze. He chuckled, “You two get me wrong. It was my bro Absalom who
suggested me to invite Andreas… The Beijing government had some problems and urged him to come
back out of the blue. Absalom asked me to invite all of you to this private banquet, saying that you had
had some misunderstandings and he didn’t want you to be bothered by these grudges all the time. I
also hope you can reach a compromise after today’s banquet.”
Greta’s gaze became cold. Misunderstandings? She was clear about Absalom’s intentions, but how
could she easily get over these grudges? The Sandoval family… That cold place was full of tricks and
intrigues and she didn’t want to come back there. If it was not because of the internal strife, she and
her father would not have come to the Ocean City.
She had no more illusions about the Sandoval family in the capital city. It was safe to say that she even
became the enemy of the Sandoval family. Therefore, how could the two parties easily let go of the
grudges because of Lennon’s words.
“Misunderstandings…” Andreas glanced over Maxwell and Greta and smiled, “It’s true that there are
many misunderstandings between me and Greta. But if Greta can let go of them, I can get over them
too.”
“You…” Greta’s expressions froze. Andreas’s tone was so casual… It was as if those bad things were
all done by Greta!
“Well, well, drop this topic. Take seats please. Let’s have a taste of these dishes.” Lennon chortled and
broke the awkwardness.
Andreas and the others seated themselves. The long, large table had various kinds of expensive
dishes perched on top of it. Even Greta, who often had delicacies, changed her expressions after
seeing the dishes.
It was because Lennon had specially invited a national-level chef from Beijing! The dishes cooked by
the top-class chef, who had been responsible for numerous national banquets, were naturally of the
highest grade.
It was also the first time for Greta, who was born in a rich family and had been the apple of Derrick’s
eyes, to have a taste of dishes of such a high level.
Maxwell, who was sitting beside Greta, showed bad table manner. He used both of his hands to grab
the food and made a pig of himself, showing not a single hint of etiquette…
In the banquet for upper class, only Maxwell acted like a beast, which attracted the attentions of the
Sandoval members.
Allison was the first to break the silence, “Greta, is this your husband’s table manner?”
Greta turned her head to look at Maxwell, who was slurping the soup off the spoon with a drumstick at
the left hand and the spoon at the right hand, showing not a single touch of elegance.
“Greta, although your father and the Sandoval family have been divided due to some differences,
you’re a graceful member of the upper class after all, so naturally you should have been well brought
up. But your husband acts like a servant when he’s eating. It’s like he hasn’t been educated. If the
words spread out, I’m afraid that people would not believe that he’s the live-in son-in-law of the
Sandoval family. Instead, they would think that he’s a manservant…” Cecilia said ironically while
fixating her gaze on Greta meaningfully.
When hearing her words, a touch of gloominess flashed across Maxwell’s eyes.
Greta turned her head to look at Maxwell again. He was still gulping down the food with any table
manners and it was as if he was in his own home.
‘Indecent…’ Greta cursed him in heart. But on the surface, she replied with composure, “Thank you for
your advice, Aunt Cecilia. I will ask him to pay more attention to this in the future.”
Maxwell twitched his mouth, “It’s eating. I should eat in the most comfortable manner. I never care
about this. After all, I’m still not full, so I don’t have the time to put my finger in other’s pie.”
Maxwell replied blandly. Although his voice was calm, his words were quite sharp!
Lennon picked up his glass and smiled, “Maxwell, thanks to you! Otherwise, I would have died…
Without you and that Mister, I would not be alive today.”
A trace of sarcasm flashed across Maxwell’s face. He picked up his glass and gently clinked Lennon’s
while saying respectfully, “Mr. Lennon, you’re lucky and shouldn’t die. It was just a coincidence that I
was given the chance to save you. This… this was really a great honor for me.”
Greta’s expressions froze. She looked at Maxwell in a dumbfounded stated. Maxwell’s flattery was
really awesome. He had praised Lennon unknowingly… High-level government officials always liked
this kind of flattery!
‘Lickspittle…’ Greta scolded Maxwell in heart. She curled her red lips into a straight line and a touch of
coldness flashed across her eyes. Apparently, she was very unhappy at the moment.
If Maxwell could see her expressions at the moment, he would undoubtedly be shocked. He would
never imagine that Greta would get jealous because of him…
“How do you feel recently, Mr. Lennon?” Maxwell laughed awkwardly and asked with concern in his
eyes.
“Quite great. I have been having the medicines according to the prescription you gave to me. Now
every day I feel more energetic than the previous day and the illness is gradually relived.” A trace of
smile crept on Lennon’s pale face.
“Maxwell, I’m a government official. If you need my help in the future, do tell me. I, Lennon Bole, will try
my best to help you.” Lennon’s solemn promise made Maxwell’s expressions froze.
Greta was also stunned. She hadn’t expected that Lennon would make the promise so quickly.
A normal person would have been excited and delirious after hearing the promise as Lennon was an
important official of Beijing government. It was safe to say that numerous people were dreaming of
winning the favor of a big wig like Lennon.
“Mr. Lennon, are you sure that it was because the prescription has saved your life?” Andreas asked out
of the blue, pretending as if it was a casual question.
“Of course. Without the prescription, I would probably remain unconscious.” Lennon nodded.
Andreas smiled and glanced at Maxwell meaningfully before continuing slowly, “Are you sure that it
was the prescription that cured your incurable disease?” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“What do you mean?” Lennon was stunned slightly.
“I didn’t have any special meaning. It was just that I was so curious back then and therefore I sent
some men to study the prescription. They found out that the prescription is just a normal one for
nursing intestines and stomach.” Andreas explained slowly and coldly.
Lennon knitted his brows. Andreas continued, “I didn’t believe in it at the beginning as Mr. Maxwell is
Greta’s husband after all. Thereafter, I turned to several specialists in traditional Chinese medicine in
Ocean City and they all said firmly that it was just a normal prescription. It’s not a magical one for
treating incurable diseases.”
Lennon furrowed his brows tighter and tighter. He glanced over Maxwell and Greta and the smile on his
face had disappeared.
“Mr. Lennon, if you don’t believe in it…” Andreas paused and clapped his hands. The gold-overlaid
doors were then pushed open and several grey-haired specialist in white gowns slowly stepped into the
banquet hall.
Greta’s heart missed one beat as she suddenly figured out why Andreas was here today. He purely
came to mess the things up today!
This Mr. Andreas from the capital city… actually never planned to let go of them!
“Mr. Lennon, they are all prestigious doctors in the traditional Chinese medicine community in Ocean
City.” Andreas said blandly and then slowly raised his hand, “Tell Mr. Lennon the usage of this
prescription.”
“We’ve carefully studied all kinds of medicines written in the prescription yet failed to find out anything
abnormal. It’s impossible to cure your incurable disease with this prescription, Mr. Lennon!” One old
doctor took a step forward and shot a glance at Maxwell, “Mr. Lennon, please don’t be fooled by this
quack doctor. If this prescription can really cure the incurable disease, we will retreat from the medical
community since ever!”
The elegant sound of violin rumbling from a corner suddenly vanished and the banquet hall was soon
shrouded in silence.
Andrea turned his head to look at Maxwell who had been calm and curled his lips into a cold, weird and
evil smile.
“Mr. Maxwell, what would you like to say to excuse for yourself?” Andreas stared at him coldly. He had
planned this in advance. Since Lennon wanted to thank Maxwell for having saved his life… He would
induce Lennon to get rid of Maxwell!
He would teach this live-in son-in-law of the Sandoval family a lesson today - how to kill a person with a
borrowed knife!
