Unveiling the Genius Behind the Divorcee Chapter 39
Chapter 39 It’s Gavyn!
“Mom! Mom! Are you alright?”
Carmen immediately took hold of Haleigh’s hands, her face paling with fear.
Finally, Haleigh managed to catch her breath and open her eyes.
How could she possibly have eight million dollars?
Suddenly, she turned to Gavyn and pulled at his sleeve. “Son! Help me! Eight million dollars isn’t much for you, right?”
Haleigh looked at her son with hope in her eyes. They were bound by blood, and she was sure that Gavyn would mercilessly reject her.
Gavyn sat motionless, his face dark and terrifying.
“Son! I’m begging you! I really can’t afford 8 million dollars!” Haleigh pleaded anxiously.
“Gavyn…”
Carmen was about to plead as well, but Gavyn’s cold eyes silenced her as soon as she opened her mouth.
As he watched Aylin and the man beside her in the distance, Gavyn felt his heart constrict and his head ached.
“Mother, I’ve warned
I’ve warned you before. As an adult, you are responsible for your actions!”
With that, he pushed open the door coldly and left.
Seeing that the auction assistant was already approaching her, Haleigh gritted her teeth and took out several bank cards.
This was all of her personal savings!
Haleigh glared angrily at Aylin. This woman always makes me suffer every time she shows up!
Laila watched as Gavyn left, her nails digging into her flesh. Today, his gaze had not fallen upon her even once.
How was it that Aylin could still attract his attention even though they got divorced?
Laila bit her lip, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes…
At that moment, Ryker and Aylin were enjoying themselves in the stands. They exchanged a smile with each other upon seeing the joint attack.
Now, they could peacefully await the auction of their items.
Haleigh had run out of money, and Gavyn showed no interest in anything related to paintings. It seemed as though no one would compete with Aylin for the “Overview of the Sea”.
However, the auction items that appeared one after another were not the “Overview of the Sea” that
Aylin desired.
“And now, for our grand finale…”
Aylin paid little attention to the host’s words as she gazed at the so-called final item, and her heart sank.
Once again, it was still not the “Overview of the Sea”. But the auction brochure had clearly listed it, so where could it be?
After the auction concluded, Aylin could no longer sit still. She left the room and made her way backstage to find the host. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Despite her anxiety, Aylin attempted to maintain a composed tone as she addressed the host. “Excuse me, may I ask why the ‘Overview of the Sea’ was not presented?”
The host recognized Aylin and hurriedly replied, “Oh, were you waiting for that item all the time, Miss? Sorry. The painting is currently not available for auction. It has already been reserved.”
It was not easy to withdraw a submitted item from an auction, and doing so would greatly damage the reputation of the auction house.
However, this was not a professional auction house, so Aylin asked, “Who reserved it?”
“Miss, we cannot disclose the identity of our clients. However, may I offer you some rest in the lounge? I can give you another auction brochure from today’s exhibition. Perhaps you may find something else to your liking?”
Aylin had come for the “Overview of the Sea” and had no interest in any other works.
Who had reserved the “Overview of the Sea”?
There were so many paintings here, and why did he choose this particular one among so many others?
“Aylin, there must be another way to get the painting,” Ryker whispered to Aylin, noticing her efforts to conceal her emotions.
Aylin’s countenance remained gloomy but at that moment…
“Hello, Mrs. Delacruz, what are you doing here?”
A clear male voice emanated from the front. Aylin turned her head and saw a striking man with red lips and pearly white teeth.
Waylon pushed away the woman in his embrace and strode towards Aylin.
“What’s going on? What’s happened?” Waylon arched his eyebrows and directed his gaze toward the host.
The host spoke humbly, “Mr. Kline, this young lady wishes to know which client reserved the ‘Overview of the Sea,’ but we have a policy that prohibits us from disclosing such information.”
“I understand.”
Waylon gestured for the host to leave with a wave of his hand.
His gaze briefly passed over Ryker before settling on Aylin. Waylon grinned playfully. “Mrs. Delacruz, if you want to know about this sort of thing, you should ask me. I know much more than they are!”
Aylin frowned at Waylon’s words. “I’m already divorced. Don’t call me that.”
During her three years of marriage with Gavyn, she had only met Waylon a handful of times, but she had developed some insight into his character.
He was the notorious playboy in New York who hadn’t been fond of her before, yet now he referred to her as Mrs. Delacruz.
Noticing Aylin’s discomfort, Waylon didn’t take offense. Instead, he grinned and suggested, “Alright, how about I call you Ms. Fairy?”
Since this gallery belonged to the Kline family, regardless of how unreliable Waylon appeared to be, he was bound to be privy to this information.
Aylin smiled and replied, “You can address me any term you’d like, Mr. Kline. Then could you please tell me which client privately reserved the ‘Overview of the Sea”?”
Waylon arched his eyebrows, and his smile deepened.
“I will reveal the information over dinner with you.”
Ryker’s countenance turned frigid at Waylon’s words.
“Goodbye!”
Aylin turned around and left, directly ignoring the idea of dining with Waylon. Their relationship was not that close, and besides, Waylon was Gavyn’s friend, so of course, she would not waste time having dinner with him.
After all, in the worst-case scenario, she would employ hacker technology to investigate the painting herself.
A bit more time was all that was needed.
Waylon’s smile faltered upon witnessing Aylin’s departure. This outcome was not what he had intended. It seemed that Aylin had a fiery temper after getting divorced.
He had merely been kidding her. After all, Aylin was his friend’s wife.
With a slight tilt of his head, he raised his voice slightly, “Ms. Fairy, I was just kidding. I can tell you who reserved the ‘Overview of the Sea’. It’s Gavyn!”
