Cherish every moment
Despite spending more time than she intended to with her godmother, Melissa got no other information other than the one she got in the office. On her way home with Tommy sleeping from exhaustion, she checked the information she found in the office.
Most of which were just normal company transactions apart from the documents he had sent his driver to get. It had detailed information of their next shipment.
‘Why would they want me to see this?’ She wondered thinking back to what Jessica had told her.
Shaking her head not letting herself dig so much into her doubts about her godmother, she tacked the phone back into her bag. Everything was clearly written down giving her a good chance for the police to look into what they were transporting but she decided not to inform anyone about it.This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Though Mark was willing to help, she had to get the correct facts first. Understand their company operations and get evidence that would without a doubt take Mr. Steven down.
All she wanted was justice especially after she found out most of her father’s employees were working at the Steel company. The company that Mr. Steven started immediately after their company went bankrupt.
Needing to see all the transactions that were done before her father died, Melissa tried getting information from both the former accountant and the company’s lawyer but they declined to meet with her. They insisted they didn’t have any information and she couldn’t do anything about it.
With every effort bearing no fruit, all she had to work with was the man her father last met with. Any information her dad gave him would be helpful as she felt she was running out of time.
Finding him was her only hope but it was hard to track him down.
She used Johnson’s membership to get back to the club but they declined to give information about their client.
With no name or picture, only the mysterious man’s physical features, she didn’t have much to search for him on the website.
However, Jenifer’s cousin worked as head of security and she promised to ask for his help retrieving a copy of that day’s severance tape. With it, Melissa hoped she would see that man’s face and hopefully she track him down and get the answers she was looking for.
When the car stopped at the villa, she took Tommy in her arms declining Adams’s help to carry him.
After tucking him into bed Melissa went out to the balcony for some fresh air.
Breathing heavily, she stared out into the night as The dancing stars and the cool wind that hit her face helped ease the tension in her muscles.
It was almost a month since she got to the city and her life had completely changed in that short time.
She almost lost her son and she had to marry just for the investigation.
When she started looking for evidence, she didn’t think it would take long. Now she realized that the search was harder than she anticipated.
Though Melissa did not have all the facts, she suspected her investigation had led to Tommy’s kidnapping. Now she had to always stay close to him when he was asleep since he started having nightmares after his accident. Despite Tommy recognizing the kidnapper’s faces, they were yet to be caught since the evidence collected was inconclusive.
Deep in thought staring at the night sky, Melissa didn’t realize the person joining her until he spoke up.
“You took Tommy to Steven’s mansion?” He inquired looking up at the sky leaning on the balcony railing.
“Yes, I had promised my godmother and she enjoyed playing with him.” She spoke giving him a side glance.
“He just left the hospital, don’t you think it’s unwise to take him to people who may potentially harm him?”
“Only my godmother was home. Besides, they don’t suspect me and they won’t, so no one would hurt us.” She responded keeping a good distance from him.
“So, find out anything?” He inquired turning his gaze to her.
“No, nothing in particular, I was only taking my son to meet my godmother, not some undercover mission.” She looked at the bright full moon just to avoid his eye contact. She restrained telling him about her encounter with Jessica and the documents she found planning to check them out first. And though he suspected she was hiding information from him, he didn’t probe further.
“Any news about the kidnappers or who might have hired them?” Melissa inquired tapping on the rail.
It was the first time taking Tommy out of the house since he got from the hospital. Though he had been well with most of the injuries healing, he kept looking around anxiously when they were on the way making Melissa wonder if the incident will affect her son’s social life.
“Nothing has come up yet, that’s why you should always inform the security personnel before leaving the house. I understand you only took the driver today.” Taking her hand in his, he made her look at him.
Pulling her hand back, she gazed into his eyes briefly. “It’s the first time to go out, I didn’t want him to get scared seeing people following us around.” Though Mark never told her, she knew he had security men watching her every move, and going to the Stevens with additional security would make them suspicious.
“Don’t do anything without informing me first…” He spoke stepping closer but the conversation was cut short when Tommy came complaining he couldn’t sleep by himself.
Despite making puppy eyes as he implored his mum and dad to join him, Melissa declined. She knew he was acting cute to his father to bring them closer.
A few days earlier while having breakfast he had asked if he would get a baby sister like his friends in his former kindergarten and since then he had been making things up just to get his dad and mum together.
Avoiding embarrassing herself like she did when they shared a bed, she stayed back as Mark carried him away.
With her hands crossed over her chest, she watched them walk back to the house. Tommy’s laughter could be heard from miles as his father teased and tickled him as he placed him on his shoulder’s bringing a smile to Melissa’s face.
“He is very happy.” Her aunt spoke joining her.
“Yes, I have never made him laugh that much. I’ve been so busy at work I forgot to make my son laugh.” Betty could see the sadness in her niece’s eyes.
“You have been a good mother to him and he still needs you, so when you are done hiding from your feelings for Mark, go spend time with them.”
“Aunt, what feelings are you talking about?” She asked nibbling her inner lip avoiding her aunt’s gaze.
“I have noticed you have been avoiding him for days now. Dear, it’s time you let your heart lead you.”
“I’ve been busy aunt, stop making conclusions from nothing.”
“If you don’t feel anything then you wouldn’t be hiding out here. You should be in that room laughing with your son. Cherish every moment with him.” She tapped Melissa’s back, and bid goodnight as she went to her room.
