CHAPTER 106
When she left. He went crazy

The tone was unmistakably mocking.
His tone was unmistakably mocking. In the play of light and shadow, Jerry leaned against the tree trunk, his short, tousled hair falling over his forehead, the corners of his eyes slightly upturned, giving him a carefree and rebellious
look.
It was as if he was completely unaware of how inappropriate it was to say such things to someone he had just met
today.
In the chilly wind, what was Jerry doing in the yard?
I put away my phone, feeling a bit wary. “What are you doing here?”
Jerry lazily replied, “Relax, I’m not following you. It was too stuffy inside, so I came out for some fresh air. Who knew
you guys at Jacquar were so open.”
I mocked, “It’s just them.”
I always felt that Jerry wasn’t simple and wasn’t someone I should get too involved with..
Pressing my lips together, I got straight to the point. “Can you keep this to yourself for now?”
I needed this to achieve my goal. If Jerry spilled the beans, all my efforts would be in vain.
“Sure!”
Jerry agreed readily, then changed the subject. “What’s in it for me?”
I frowned. “What?”
Jerry answered, “I’m not one to do something for nothing. Never have.”
If I stayed here any longer, Evelyn might notice I wasn’t in the hall and suspect I had been in the yard, spying on her and Charlie’s shady business.
I was eager to get away. “What do you want?”
Jerry said with a smirk, “Haven’t decided yet. How about you promise me a favor? Ill let you know what it is when I
think of it.”
“Okay,” I agreed without a second thought.
. After tonight, we might never see each other again. Without evidence, he had no way to threaten me either.
Jerry finally stood up straight and glanced at my thin black dress, “Aren’t you cold?”

I felt it was a strange question and replied casually, “A little.”
“You’re really not afraid of the cold,” Jerry complimented, then pulled his leather jacket tighter. To avoid suspicion, he didn’t go back immediately but walked in another direction.
That saved me the trouble of waiting a while before going back in.
Inside the bang
hall, it was warm. Cecil walked over with a smile. “I’ve been looking for you.”
“Are you done?” I asked with a smile.
Today was the Patel family’s event, and Cecil, being the sole heir, should be too busy to notice anyone else.
Cecil shook his head helplessly. “Not yet. I took a moment to check on you, in case you needed anything but were too shy to ask.”
I reassured Cecil, “Don’t worry. If I need anything, I’ll definitely let you know. You should get back to your duties.”

Cecil agreed, “Okay, I have a gift for you. I’ll give it to you after the event.”
I asked, “Isn’t today Mrs. Lewis’s birthday party? Why am I getting a gift?”
Cecil smiled slightly. “Gifts can be given anytime, not just on special occasions.”
“I continued, “I can accept gifts, but nothing too expensive.”
The dress I had received at the housewarming party was too extravagant. But at that moment, I was not in a position to refuse. Today wasn’t a holiday or birthday, so I had to set things straight with Cecil in advance.
Cecil raised an eyebrow. “It might be valuable to you, but I’m just returning it to its rightful owner. You can accept it with peace of mind.”
“Returning it to its rightful owner?” I had just asked in confusion when an elder who had long been associated with the Patel family came over to chat with Cecil.
Not wanting to linger, I exchanged a glance with Cecil and then tactfully left.
When the banquet ended, I moved to a less crowded spot to wait for Cecil to finish up.
While waiting, Christopher finished greeting a business partner and came straight over. “Hope, what are you doing here? Let’s go.”
I answered frankly, “Waiting for someone.”
Christopher’s blue eyes stared sharply at me. “Waiting for who, Cecil?”Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yes.”
Christopher’s gaze turned cold, and he lowered his voice in warning. “Hope Royston, I see you’re getting bolder. We’re not divorced yet.”

I looked up. I know. With all these people around, what could we possibly do?”
“Come home with me!” Christopher said, as domineering as ever, grabbing my hand and started to leave.
I tried to pull away, but Christopher said, “He and Kimberly Harris were called away by Mrs. Lewis. Do you want to
freeze out here?”
In other words, Cecil wouldn’t be back anytime soon.
I gave up struggling. After all, I had something to discuss with Christopher tonight. “Let go. I can walk by myself.”
Christopher acted like he didn’t hear me.
I was dragged all the way to the car by Christopher.
Feeling a bit angry, I quickly sent a message to Cecil, telling him I had left. Then, not wanting to wait until we got home, I found the video and handed my phone to Christopher.
The suggestive sounds filled the car instantly!
The driver, probably thinking Christopher and I were watching some romantic movie to set the mood, tactfully raised the partition.
Christopher didn’t look at the phone but stared at me. “You’re watching this kind of stuff now?”
I said, ‘Keep watching.”
My arm was getting tired, so I shoved the phone into Christopher’s hand.
When Charlie and Evelyn’s voices started coming from the phone, Christopher’s face turned ice–cold!
The things they said were utterly indecent.
And the fact that it was Charlie and Evelyn saying them made it even worse!
Christopher gave me a cold look, then started fiddling with the phone screen.
I had anticipated this; otherwise, I wouldn’t have handed the phone to Christopher. “Deleting it won’t help. I’ve already backed it up.”
I wouldn’t make such a rookie mistake with such crucial evidence.
But aside from the coldness, I couldn’t detect any other emotion on Christopher’s face.
Christopher tossed the phone aside, his expression unreadable. “Delete it yourself. Don’t dirty the phone,
I turned to look at Christopher, trying to gauge his emotions. “Christopher, you’re not angry?”
Christopher’s eyes were icy. “Disappointed? Hope Royston, I’m not an idiot. I don’t need you to throw this kind of evidence in my face.”

My eyes widened. “You mean you already knew?”
“Maybe.” Christopher’s answer was ambiguous.
I said, “Then you’re really quite pitiful and tolerant.”
He asked, “Tolerant of what?”
1 retorted, “Didn’t you see that the woman in the video is Evelyn Valence?”
Christopher looked at me like I was an idiot. “I’m not blind or deaf. After my mother passed away, there were plenty of messy affairs. If it wasn’t Evelyn Valence, it would be Taylor or Thomas Evelyn.”
I was stunned. “But then why do you still protect Evelyn Valence so much?”
Christopher answered, “To me, as long as it’s not my mother, it doesn’t matter who Charlie Valence is with.”
Mentioning his mother, Christopher looked forlorn and forced a smile. As for the rest, I’ve explained before. I only promised Brenda Valence. Besides, I didn’t know about this much earlier than you did.”
Christopher looked at me, his gaze dark and unflinching. “That baby of hers is Charlie Valence’s. They almost gave me at little brother.”
What a mess. I didn’t know what else to say.
Christopher seemed to have other plans and pointed at my phone. “Delete the video and pretend you don’t know.”
I almost got sidetracked by Christopher but finally remembered my purpose for tonight. I’ll delete it, but let’s
to divorce.”
