Chapter 66
After leaving the hospital following her pregnancy check-up, Anastasia walked alone in the cold wind on her way home.
Anastasia looked up at the densely overcast sky, her thoughts wandering.
“Do I forsake this child or my own life?”
It was a difficult decision to make.
Anastasia spotted Alastor’s car at the entrance of the mansion from a dista
He didn’t enter the house and leaned against the car door, smoking, probably waiting for her.
“Why are you here?” Anastasia was a little surprised.
After they signed the divorce agreement, Alastor never went back, except for their weekly Friday meet- ups to dine with his grandmother.
It wasn’t Friday, yet Alastor had returned.
Alastor glanced at Anastasia.
Perhaps because of the cold weather, she was bundled up, her face appearing even smaller and paler against the layers, almost as if a gust of wind could blow her away.
Alastor’s heart tightened inexplicably, and he extinguished the cigarette butt. “Stay back, there’s smoke.
Anastasia smiled and positioned herself at a distance, pondering, “This man seemed perfect in so many ways, except for the part where he doesn’t love me”
“Mr. Zahn from Prosper Group is currently in Hork for business discussions. Mrs. Zahn is very fond of you. They acquired a majority of your paintings during the previous charity art exhibition. They’re interested in meeting you,” Alastor briefly explained.
Anastasia understood.
Interaction within the wives’ circle was also a common approach to fostering business collaboration.
That was also the reason why Alastor hadn’t made the divorce agreement public yet.
At social events like those, he still needed to have Anastasia accompany him.
‘Sure, I’ll go get changed and freshen up first,” Anastasia agreed without hesitation. After all, she hadn’t reached the stage of harboring any resentment toward him.
It was simply a matter of not being loved.
Alastor gave a nod of acknowledgment, maintaining his position against the car door.
“It’s quite cold outside. Aren’t you coming inside?” Anastasia asked as she reached the doorway.
“No.” Alastor declined.
Anastasia’s fingers stiffened for a moment. Without looking back, she opened the door and entered the house.
A hint of warmth filled her eyes. Anastasia readied cat food for Snowball before soaking dried fish in special milk powder for the treats. Following that, she made her way to the restroom, quickly washing her face, applying a mask, and embarking on a search for clothes.
Considering it was a business banquet, Anastasia had to dress a bit more formally, and her attire had to complement Alastor’s suit.
Having compared a few outfits, Anastasia gazed at her reflection in the mirror and suddenly felt bewildered.
Over the last four years, she’d worked tirelessly to satisfy Alastor, aspiring to be an ideal spouse.
She embodied a people-pleasing nature, giving up her own needs to accommodate others. Yet, what she gained in the end was the present situation.
In a state of disappointment, Anastasia tore off the face mask, randomly chose an outfit, tidied herself up hastily, applied some lipstick, and left.
The strong wind outside led Anastasia to tightly wrap her windbreaker around herself.
Walking up to the side of the passenger seat, Anastasia hesitated just as she was about to open the car door.
Inside the car, Alastor looked at Anastasia without saying a word.
Sensing the situation, Anastasia tactfully opened the back door and got in.
Reserved for his little fairy, the passenger seat was for his first crush, a place for his beloved
It wasn’t meant for her; the ex-wife who had already finalized the divorce agreement.
“I’ve changed cars.” Inside the car. Alastor furrowed his brows.
He hadn’t let Felicia touch that car even once.
“It’s a good car, very spacious. It’ll be more convenient for you two to make love in it,” Anastasia said bluntly.
Alastor’s expression grew even darker, and he didn’t say another word to Anastasia throughout the journey.
Anastasia was uncertain whether Alastor and Felicia had engaged in intimacy within the car. She also wasn’t sure if it was due to her own psychological state or the effects of her pregnancy that she found the air inside the car stifling, causing waves of nausea and the sensation that she might throw up.
Upon arriving at the hotel. Anastasia immediately rushed into the restroom after getting out of the car and spent a long time hunched over the toilet bowl as she vomited.
After a brief pause, Anastasia collected herself, tidied her emotions, and walked out of the restroom.
“Why did you come? Alastor, did you bring Anastasia here? Who does she think she is to come with you? I said I wanted to meet Mrs. Zahn, and you brought her along! What gives her the right?”
In the corner, Felicia’s voice quivered with a barrage of questions.
She was interrogating Alastor about his decision to bring Anastasia to the social event.
Anastasia hid herself near the restroom door, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Stop making a scene’ Alastor was trying to appease Felicia. His tone sounded a bit impatient, yet he could tolerate her unreasonable outbursts again and again. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
“Alastor, are you having second thoughts? Are you not planning to divorce her anymore? Do you even know that Zachary will also be present tonight? Anastasia was kept by Zachary during her junior year for two whole years. Won’t their meeting be awkward now? What will they of you?” Felicia said angrily.
Anastasia leaned against the wall and her body tensed up instantly.
Zachary… it had been quite a few years since she last heard that name.
During her university days, there were indeed rumors associating her with Zachary, implying that she was kept by the CEO of Quinn Group, with luxury cars picking her up daily
Anastasia never provided an explanation, as she simply spent three months crafting hand-painted murals in the newly acquired mansion of Zachary,
Because Zachary’s grandmother had a fondness for landscape paintings, he visited the Department of Art and sought advice
from Charles.
It was Charles who suggested Anastasia for the task, as he knew she was in need of funds and Zachary was willing to pay a handsome sum,
It took her three months to complete the entire wall mural, and Zachary compensated her with
