Chapter 538
How much of their conversation had Edgar caught?
His dark eyes, usually calm and handsome, now swirled with barely contained anger. "Mom, what exactly did you do back then?"
"Son..."
This was bad news!
Adela's eyes popped wide open in panic as she quickly grabbed Edgar's arm, "Let me explain, please..."
"Alright!" Edgar fixed a stern gaze on his mother. "Explain then. I'm all ears."
"Oh, Edgar..."
Adela was nearly in tears from desperation! How could she explain? How could she have known that boasting in a moment of pride would blow the lid off past secrets?
"Speak up! What, got nothing to say?"
Edgar pursed his lips, his anger simmering, "What exactly did you do to Sherilyn?"
He had always thought his breakup with Sherilyn was because Gilbert had meddled in their affairs!
"Could it be..." Edgar's clear eyes darkened with realization. "My separation from Sherilyn wasn't because of Gilbert?"
"Son..." Adela was at a loss for words, for the truth was much uglier than he could imagine.
"What happened? Tell me!"
Edgar remembered Sherilyn's tears; they still pained him.
Back then, he felt deeply betrayed by Sherilyn...
But now, thinking back to the day he flew from Rainshore City to Crestwood, Sherilyn had seemed happy to see him...
He had felt sure she was about to accept him... But then, everything changed! Something wasn't right!
"Could it be?"
Without answers from Adela, Edgar could only speculate, "Sherilyn didn't leave willingly! Did you and Gilbert conspire to force her? Or set her up?"
If that was true, he was indeed a fool!
"No!" Adela shook her head
vigorously, "I didn't conspire with Mr.
Gilbert hired someone from
Crestwood, but for some reason,
Sherilyn ended up sleeping with Mr.
Gilbert!"

Adela, still unrepentant, scoffed disdainfully, "If you ask me, she was shameless, flirting with you while hooking up with Gilbert..."
"Mom!" Edgar's shout was explosive, his face pale and veins throbbing with anger.
He looked at his mother, heartbroken and disappointed, "Stop! Just stop talking!"
A sharp pain surged in his chest, "You actually... you actually..."
To think his mother would go to such lengths to harm the girl he liked!
How scared and desperate Sherilyn must have felt back then!
"It wasn't like that..." Adela shook her head, denying everything, "I just told that person to scare her a little..."
"Enough!" Edgar was utterly disillusioned, his eyes tinged with red. "Mom, do you love me?"
"Son..." Adela was alarmed, "Of course..."
"No!" Edgar chuckled bitterly,
shaking his head, "You... you've
ruined my love life! Do you
el
understand? Sherilyn was the first
person I've ever loved in my 25 years!"
Adela was both shocked and angry, unable to bear such an accusation!
"I'm only thinking of what's best for you! How could someone like Sherilyn ever be worthy of you?"
"Huh?" Edgar paused, then suddenly laughed.
"Ha, hahaha..." He couldn't stop.
Adela and Gaylord exchanged worried glances, feeling a bit scared.
"Son..."
"Edgar!"
Edgar stopped laughing, his eyebrows raised in a mocking gesture"
"Sherilyn wasn't worth
of
me? So, , you thought it best to match me with someone like Yuna?"
