Chapter 614
Chapter 614
Sherilyn paused, a sudden surge of irritation rising in her chest.
"You know..." Gilbert took her hand gently, his voice soft, "Should I say you're careless, not paying attention to your own matters, or is it that your memory's just not that great?"
He chuckled, "Luckily, Jenna's a girl. They say daughters often take after their dads - she's bound to be smart."
Sherilyn shot him a sidelong glare, visibly annoyed.
"I'm wrong," Gilbert quickly conceded, seeing he might have gone too far, "She'll be like you - smart and beautiful. Come on, let's not keep the doctor waiting. I've got a feeling he's not the most patient man."
In Sunhaven, there weren't many who'd dare to cross Mr. Gilbert Johnson.
And that old doctor was one of the few.
Sherilyn understood the stakes and followed him into the car, though she remained silent and stern-faced throughout the ride.
The visit to the doctor went similarly.
Upon seeing Sherilyn's mood, the doctor didn't hesitate to scold Gilbert, "Mr. Johnson, if you keep upsetting her, I'd advise you not to bother with any treatment. It's all in vain if she's not in good spirits."
Gilbert could only sigh. He had warned her - the doctor was known for his temper.
"Go lie down," the doctor instructed Sherilyn, leading her into the acupuncture room, leaving Gilbert waiting outside, where he picked up some herbal concoctions prepared for them.
When they left, Sherilyn still hadn't said much.
Gilbert, worried she might be feeling unwell, asked in a low voice, "How was your first acupuncture session? Are you okay?"
Sherilyn hesitated before nodding slightly, "It's fine."
Gilbert smiled softly, "Let's head home."
On the way back, he suggested, "How about dinner together tonight? You need to eat light with your medication. Maybe Soup Journey? You've always liked their porridge."
"Sherilyn."
She suddenly turned to him, her gaze steady.
"Just tell me straight, what are you up to? No beating around the bush, okay?"
"Hmm?"
Gilbert tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his expression neutral, "What have I done?"
Sherilyn scoffed lightly, "The sudden
investment, dropping by the set,
afternoon teas for the crew, making
a show of taking me away in front of everyone... You've done nothing?"
"Oh, that."

Gilbert nodded, his smile fading as he looked at her seriously, "What do you think I'm trying to do?"
"Chase me."
Without hesitation, Sherilyn voiced her suspicion. "Is that so?"
"Yes!"
Their exchange was rapid, almost like a game of quickfire questions.
Sherilyn was taken aback, pausing before she laughed softly, "You really love Jenna, I can see that. Perhaps it's just natural, even before you knew she was your daughter you adered her. But..."
"You don't have to waste your time on me for Jenna's sake."
"Jenna?"
Gilbert looked genuinely confused, his brows furrowed deeply. "You think I'm pursuing you so openly because of Jenna?"
"Yes."
Sherilyn didn't hesitate in her response.
"Sherilyn..." He started to say, then quickly added, "Maybe not entirely."NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Looking at him, her expression and tone were calm, "You probably like me a bit. I've changed since four years ago, not as disagreeable to you as before..."
"Anyway, since you can't be with the one you truly loved, someone like me, especially since we share a daughter... might be tolerable for you, I guess."
