Chapter 742
Gilbert hesitated for a brief moment before stepping inside, only to find the place eerily empty. Naylor was indeed gone.
"Ha!" A smirk slowly formed on Gilbert's lips, his eyes darkening with a mix of rage and scorn.
Frustration boiled within him, with no outlet for release.
Hiding, are we?
It was clear as day now-it had to be Naylor!
"Pass a message to Naylor for me," Gilbert's eyes shimmered with a dangerous glint as he addressed the butler, "Tell him he can kiss any hope goodbye. No matter what tricks he pulls, I'll never return to the Harrison family!"
At the hospital, Caroline and Sherilyn arrived one after the other upon hearing about Sylvia's condition.
Given her state, Caroline, who lived nearby, arrived first, wheeled in by her caretaker due to her mobility issues.
"What's going on? How's Grandma doing?"
"She'll be alright," Francis replied, his brow furrowed with concern. "Grandma found out about Gilbert's origins."
Caroline paused, puzzled, "How did that come to light?"
Francis shared the details about the urgent courier, adding, "But we're still in the dark about who's behind it. Gilbert's looking into it."
"I'll go check on Grandma then."
"Alright..."
Sherilyn, coming from further away in Sunset Ridge Community, arrived a tad later. As she reached, Caroline was just leaving the hospital room.
Their paths crossed at the door, exchanging brief glances.
Inside, Sylvia had been medicated and was now genuinely asleep.
When Sherilyn emerged, Francis was still standing guard outside.
"Don't worry too much," he reassured her, "The doctor said Grandma's condition isn't serious. It's good you came to see her. I'll have someone drive you home."
"Thank you, Francis."
As they left the ward for the elevator, surprisingly, Caroline hadn't left yet and was waiting in the elevator lobby.
Upon seeing Sherilyn, a smug smile crept across Caroline's face, gripping the handles of her wheelchair.
Francis's earlier words echoed in her mind...
【Grandma found out about Gilbert's origins.】
With Sylvia now aware of Gilbert's past, the thought of marriage would be far from his mind for some time.
Feeling a weight lifted, Caroline's smile softened, "Sherilyn, I've been waiting for you."
For her? Sherilyn had a hunch this wasn't going to be pleasant.
"I wanted to tell you..."
Caroline glanced at her, her smile turning cold, "I confessed to Gilbert. I told him I want to be with him."This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Sherilyn froze, her eyes widening in surprise.
"Shocked?"

Caroline raised an eyebrow, "You must've sensed my feelings for Gilbert Last time I confessed, claiming it was a joke, Gilbert
believed it, but you didn't, did you?"
Sherilyn couldn't help but silently scoff. So much for subtlety! "Sherilyn."
et
Detecting the disdain in her eyes, Caroline frowned, "I'm not trying to compete with you. If your feelings for him were genuine, I wouldn't have stepped in."
"Why doesn't Gilbert deserve someone who's wholly devoted to him, right?"
Her words seemed to accuse Sherilyn directly.
Feeling nauseated by the
conversation yet maintaining her composure, Sherilyn replied, "You really have a talent for making the other woman' sound almost noble."
"You..." Caroline was taken aback, "Then dare you say, you..."
"Enough."
Sherilyn waved her off, tired of the back-and-forth, "Since you're so confident, I wish you all the best... in becoming 'the other woman.""
The elevator dinged, its doors sliding open.
Sherilyn, no longer amused, stepped inside with an indifferent look.
"Just you wait."
Caroline, sitting in her wheelchair, gave her a cold smirk, "Gilbert won't marry you! He'll choose me!"
