Wife by Day, Boss by Night

Chapter 190

The warmth of his body seemed to burn through her, his breath quickening with every passing second.

Natalie remained still, frozen as his lips hovered above hers, only to pause abruptly.

He wanted her consent, her willing surrender, not resentment or anger.

After a moment, he stopped all movement, sighed deeply, and pulled her into his embrace.

Natalie had thought he hated her guts, but his actions didn't match the loathing she expected. At least, when he called her name, his voice carried a tenderness she couldn't ignore.

When Natalie awoke, Brian was no longer by her side. She didn’t know when he had left. She reached out, feeling his warmth, but the sheets were cold then.

Dawn was breaking at 5:30 AM, and she could hear Nate's chattering voice downstairs. She sat up, got dressed, and went to the ground floor.

The study door was ajar, and Brian was there, helping Nate with his homework.

Nate was on his knees, focusing intently. His penmanship was terrible, almost indecipherable, but Natalie could see from a distance that his approach to solving the math problem was correct.

It seemed Nate had inherited Brian's intellect.

As she withdrew her gaze, Brian looked up at her.

“Come and teach him for a bit,” he said, his voice detached. “I need to step out.”

Natalie remembered how feverishly he had held her the night before, and she averted her eyes, moving behind a chair, waiting for him to leave so she could sit down.

The desk was pushed against one wall, with bookshelves just two steps behind.

There was only space on the right for movement. Natalie edged close to the shelves, making room for Brian.

He took a sip of water and set down his glass. Natalie's gaze unintentionally fell upon his Adam's apple, which bobbed slightly with each swallow. Caught off guard, she turned her face away as Brian stood up, his white shirt unbuttoned at the top, hinting at the muscle underneath. The old house's study was cramped.

The space behind the desk barely accommodated one person. All Natalie could see was Brian.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

“Daddy, where are you going?” Nate asked curiously without looking up.

“The hospital,” Brian replied curtly, his breath brushing Natalie's face.

He was off to see Gracia, and Natalie couldn't help but frown. The seconds of waiting for him to Chapter 190

leave stretched out, becoming unbearably awkward.

As she moved to sit in his recently vacated seat, Brian suddenly turned back toward her, almost enveloping her in his arms.

Natalie recoiled like a startled rabbit, stepping back until she was against the wall.

Brian leaned in slightly, reaching for his suit jacket on the chair.

Brian had intended to stay, but a situation at the hospital demanded his attention. The news had blown oy)up. Gracia’s scandal was everywhere, and her mental state was reportedly unstable. After a sleepless night, they feared she might attempt something drastic.

He was going to clean up a mess for Natalie, realizing it could implicate Natalie if Gracia harmed herself. Itry was damage control, for Natalie's sake.
