“I keep wondering.” King mused with a nonchalant air, “if we hadn’t bumped into each other again,

would you have stuck with school and acting?”

“Nope.” Natalie chuckled in response. “Without you, I probably would’ve died on the operating table or

wasted away in a hospital bed.”

Natalie never dared to willingly recall that horrifying day three years ago, it was like a scene straight

from hell. Even after three years, the heart–wrenching pain was as clear and vivid as if it had just

happened.

It wasn’t just the agony of losing her child. It was the pain of being utterly ignored by her family, but

most importantly, that day, she finally realized just how deeply Brian despised her.

Throughout her ordeal, he never showed up, not even to catch a glimpse of their son, who had passed

away.

She was so broke that she couldn’t afford her medical bills back then. Bleeding profusely and with a

concussion threatening her life, she had nothing and no one to help her.

When she was on the brink of passing out, King appeared like a guardian angel and saved her.

From that moment on, she vowed to become strong and never again fall into such a pitiful and helpless

state.

King had saved her life. Besides Nina, King was the closest thing to the family she had in this world.

“Just focus on healing. I’ll make those guys pay,” Natalie said quietly to King after a moment of

silence.

She was determined to make those who hurt King understand that he was someone they should have

never crossed.

King had faith in Natalie’s abilities, but he recognized the gravity of the situation. He looked at her

intently and said sternly, “Listen to me. Don’t do anything reckless. These people have influence that’s

tangled across the globe. Revenge is my business, not yours.”

“All you need to do is get well, see Matthew through his last days, and then return to Nina and me,

okay?”

Natalie merely lifted her eyebrows noncommittally.

Now that she knew, there was no way she could just stand by.

On the way back to the estate, as Uriah drove past a flea market at a red light, Natalie suddenly broke

the silence from the back seat, “Uriah, pull over. I’ll be back in about ten minutes.”

Clueless about her intentions, Uriah had a bodyguard follow her closely.

Natalie made a beeline for a booth in the back, a second–hand computer stall, and picked out a decent

old PC with a mouse for fifty bucks.

Then, she pulled out her phone that had been off all day, asked the vendor for a local burner SIM card,

and connected the computer to the mobile network.

Within two minutes, Natalie had located the login details for the front desk computer of the company

behind the attempt on King’s life.

“Amateurs. You brought this on yourselves,” she muttered under her breath as she glanced at the

people through the security camera feed, her lips curling into a disdainful sneer.

While she was exploiting a firewall vulnerability, a few shadows darted across the lobby elevator

camera.

Brian, clad in a black trench coat, strode into the elevator. As it began to ascend, he glanced up, giving

the corner camera a cold, hard stare.

“Mr. Howard, you are gracing us with your presence. We’re truly honored,” came a surprised voice

through the camera. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

Brian couldn’t help but frown. He was there for FireWing, having been promised confidential personnel

files from the enigmatic Truth Group. Behind him, Reid slightly lifted two briefcases as a gesture

towards the camera, indicating the payment for the transaction.

“However, considering the lengths we’ve gone to obtain FireWing’s information, and given the elusive

nature of the Truth Group, don’t you think offering a few million euros for the data is a bit greedy?” The

voice from the camera paused before adding a laugh.

“I’m only after one person’s information from FireWing. Just tell me if you have it or not,” Brian said,

fixing his gaze on the camera, his expression unreadable.
