Chapter 18: Go to Hell
Chapter 18: Go to Hell
Claudia went back to her bed and picked up her baby carefully. At this moment, Conrad woke up. He
opened his little mouth and seemed to be hungry.
Claudia smiled. Now she happened to be ready to feed him, so she got out of bed, pulled up the screen
and lifted her clothes.
Now that she finally saw her baby, Claudia was overwhelmed with joy. Watching his little face and
stroking his little hand, Claudia was so immersed in happiness that she didn’t even take notice of the
person walking into her ward.
It was when Marshall got around the screen that Claudia noticed him and was startled.
“Oops... Sorry!”
Marshall hurried behind the screen, blushing with embarrassment.
When Claudia got herself ready a moment later, Marshall walked out again, took a deep breath, and
explained, “I’m sorry for what just happened. I didn’t mean to see that!”
Claudia gave a faint smile. She knew what kind of person he was since she had known him from
childhood.
Claudia stared at Marshall and said in sign language, “Kim told me what happened. I appreciate what
you’ve done for me the other day!”
“Come on!” Marshall gave a bright smile. “I wasn’t that helpful. But Claudia, have you thought of
treating your speech impairment again?” Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Now that Marshall brought it up, Claudia was a little at a loss.
“I remember you were able to speak when you were little. What happened?” Marshall had always been
wondering.
Back then, he went abroad to visit his grandfather. When he came back a month later, Claudia became
mute.
According to Blair, Claudia was running a fever at that time, but her treatment was delayed, so severe
neurological damage was caused. However, Marshall had checked Claudia’s brain before, only to find
that her cranial nerves were actually intact!
Marshall stared at Claudia. “Now you got your own kid, and you definitely want to talk to him, right?”
Claudia’s mind went blank because she hadn’t thought about this before.
Once she could talk, it meant the truth that her father was murdered by Blair would be revealed.
Claudia had to be able to speak in order to expose the vicious face of her enemy.
But what if she got her mother, who was in the nursing home, involved?
Claudia cast a look at the baby. Now as a new mother, how could she not want to talk to her child?
Claudia was torn.
On the one hand, it was the blood feud over her father; on the other, it was her mother in the nursing
home. What should Claudia do now?
“Claudia, what are you worried about? Tell me, and I will help you!” Marshall bent over and held
Claudia’s hands, staring at her in a comforting and tender way, “Trust me, OK?”
Before Claudia could say anything, Ben walked around the screen and appeared in front of them.
A sweet smile spread across his handsome face, making it easy for one to fall under his spell.
Ben’s piercing gaze swept across their face, and then came to rest on Claudia’s. A moment later, his
eyes shifted to Marshall.
“It seems that you have plenty of time, Mr. Cooper.”
Growing up in high society, Marshall knew how to conduct himself. He was flexible and adaptive.
Therefore, just in an instant, Marshall recovered himself and looked at Ben, with his gentle face hard to
read.
“I’m on rounds. I came to check on Claudia and her baby in passing.”
Ben gave a cold smile and walked over to Marshall slowly. “What? Cardiothoracic surgeons start to do
rounds in Obgyn too?"
Marshall frowned and said, “So you’re saying that I can’t check on my ex-fiancee?”
“Ha!”
Ben snorted, his eyes sharp and cold. “Why are you dwelling on the past?”
“Because Claudia is a good woman who deserves love!” Marshall insinuated in a commanding and
warning tone, “Mr. Crawford, I think you’re the one who is dwelling on the past.”
Ben raised his eyebrows and retorted, “Keep those words to yourself, Mr. Cooper!”
Marshall gave a wry smile and said faintly, “I will! I know what I’m doing, and I hope you’ll stop where it
should stop!”
After that, Marshall threw a meaningful glance at Claudia and strode outside.
Ben's face darkened.
Claudia was totally aware that Ben let Marshall off for the sake of Conrad.
In the afternoon, Claudia was still immersed in the joy of having brought her baby back, so she took a
nap with him.
However, her sweet dream was disturbed, and she was woken up abruptly,
by a basin of cold iced water.
What awaited Claudia was Amber’s furious gaze. She dropped the basin to the floor with a snap.
The piercing cold and the loud noise made Claudia open her eyes immediately, and the first thing
popped into her mind was the baby. As expected, some cold water splashed over Conny’s little face,
while a few small ice cubes hit his little head.
He started to bawl.
Claudia’s heart broke. Just as she was about to hold and lull the baby, Amber gave a hard slap across
Claudia’s face.
Claudia's cheek began to swell up and burn at once, her head dizzy.
“You bitch! Ben doesn’t even talk to me now thanks to you!”
The next moment, Amber grabbed Claudia’s neck violently and snarled, “Who are you to marry Ben?
Who are you to give birth to his baby? You’re a bitch, just like your mother!”
Claudia had difficulty in breathing. Since her hands were gripped by Amber and she was afraid that she
would hurt the baby, Claudia could only let Amber have her own way when they were jostling.
As she was almost suffocated, chills ran down Claudia’s spine. She was overwhelmed by a deep sense
of despair.
“Bitch! Go to hell! You’ve given birth to the baby, and you’re worthless. Just go to hell!”
Claudia’s brain got lost in chaos. In an instant, all kinds of images flashed across her mind, and Ben’s
face emerged again and again.
Amber’s shrill voice was still lingering in her ears, but Claudia felt it was fading away, as if it was
coming from another world.
In chaos, Claudia felt that she was about to be engulfed in darkness. Just as she closed her eyes,
Claudia fell into someone’s warm arms.
“Claudia!”
A familiar and attractive voice wrenched Claudia back to her senses. She opened her eyes slowly, and
what greeted her was Marshall’s concerned eyes.
It was after he made sure Claudia was fine that Marshall let go of her. The next second, Marshall
stared at Amber with his piercing eyes, as if he was about to eat her alive.
“Amber, what the hell do you think you are doing?”
Marshall seldom behaved like this. Ordinarily, he always impressed people with his gentleness and
tenderness.
He was a modest and self-disciplined gentleman.
Very rarely did he lose temper like this.
Stunned, Amber wanted to make an explanation. But before she could say anything, Marshall
interrupted her in a cold tone, “All these years, you and your mother have been bullying Claudia. Now
she just gave birth to her baby, and you’re scheming against her again. Don’t you think you’ve gone too
far, Amber?”
“What?” Amber exclaimed in astonishment and bit her lower lip in anger. “Marshall, that’s just bullshit!
We’ve never bullied Claudia!”
Hardly had she said that than Amber caught on and gave a wicked smile. She added at once, “I see
what’s going on here. You’re worried about her, even more than her husband! You two are still hooking
up behind Ben’s back, right? I wonder what he will do when he finds out about this!”
