Chapter 110
Chapter 110
"Ahem, Coralie, she's just my senior. A lot of people are going after her and I don't stand a chance,"
Wayne said dejectedly.
Coralie was a little sore when she heard Wayne's self-deprecation tone and retorted, "My brother is so
handsome, so how can he be any lesser than the others?"
"Ding dong."
It was another WhatsApp message.
Immediately, Wayne darted his attention back on his mobile phone hurriedly.
Coralie could not help but smile when she noticed Wayne's reaction. Following that, she no longer
disturbed him but continued cleaning up the house.
Coralie could not bear to let her mother do all the chores alone because her mother's hand was injured,
thus she did it herself.
"Coralie, don't work too hard. You still have to work tomorrow," Hera called.
She felt sorry for her daughter. Coralie was busy cleaning the house all night that her back was
hunched.
"It's okay, mom. It's Christmas and we should clean up and celebrate the holiday."
Coralie stretched her back and replied.
Following that, Hera poured a glass of warm water in the kitchen and handed the glass to Coralie. She
said, "Coralie, drink some water and have some rest."
"Thank you, mom."
Coralie was gulping down the water when Hera stood beside her and asked, "Coralie, will Skylar visit
during Christmas? He's so rich and if he comes, I'll have to prepare some delicious food in advance."
Although Skylar married Coralie, Hera still felt that he was a world apart from them since he's from a
wealthy family. Therefore, if he paid a visit to their home, he would still be a guest and she should not
treat him shabbily.
"It's okay, mom. I don't think he'll come," Coralie assured her mother.
Coralie felt that a large family like the Holland's family would be busy and occupied during the holiday
season, unlike a small family like them.
"Well, that's good. It's inevitable that our relatives will visit during Christmas. I'm afraid that our relatives
will disturb him if he's here."
Hera told the truth.
Ever since Coralie's father passed away, the relatives from her father side had basically lost all contact
with her family. They had always blamed Hera for the death of her husband.
As for Hera's family, among her sisters, she was married to the least favorable. Therefore, they
detested her for her poor marriage and turned a cold shoulder to her.
Perhaps, they were afraid that Hera would ask them for money. After all, Hera once tried to borrow
some money from her sisters to apply for a lawsuit when her husband died from the car accident.
However, she was rejected harshly.
Yet, her two older sisters would still pay a visit once in a while to make sure that Hera's life was not any
better than theirs.
"Well, even if he comes, he will let me know in advance," Coralie replied.
Following that, she lowered her head.
The truth was she would like to have Skylar over as well but that was impossible.
......
On Christmas Eve, Coralie and Wayne went shopping for some fireworks. Wayne browsed through the
stalls and said, "Sister, let's buy this one. We haven't been playing with this type of fireworks for a long
time now."
Back then, they felt that it was not a good time to set off any fireworks when their father just passed
away, thus they did not do it that year. Unexpectedly, five years had passed ever since they
discontinued the tradition.
"Okay, let's buy it."
Coralie agreed as well.
Their old house was burned down and they currently lived in a new house. Although it was rented, it
still stood as a new beginning for them.
In the meantime, Coralie's mobile phone rang when Wayne was paying for the fireworks. She realized
that it was a WhatsApp message from Skylar.
Skylar's message read, "Where are you celebrating Christmas?"
Coralie typed, "At home, of course."
Skylar replied, "Okay."
Coralie did not know how to answer his brief reply. After thinking for a while, she asked, "What about
you?"
Skylar typed, "I'll spend it with grandma."
Skylar was very fond of Grandmother Holland. It was normal for him to spend more time with her during
the holidays. Furthermore, Grandmother Holland was the head of the family and naturally, the whole
Holland family would accompany her during the holidays.
That night, there were only Hera, Coralie and Wayne in the house but they enjoyed their time together.
They were cooking together in the kitchen but as usual, Wayne was not a good cook and made a mess
in the kitchen.
Following that, they ate their Christmas Dinner together around the dining table. The clock turned eight
in the evening when they were done eating and 'Love Actually' just started playing on the TV.
Coralie sat on the couch with her mother and brother as they watched the movie. Suddenly, She was Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
hearkened back to the past.
Previously, when she was married to Howard, she was occupied with the house chores on every
Christmas. She needed to prepare Christmas Dinner, wash the dishes after the dinner and clean up the
kitchen while everyone else was enjoying their time watching Christmas movies in the living room.
As the clock struck midnight, a deafening sound of fireworks reverberated through the sky outside.
Wayne was excited as he heard the sound of fireworks and suggested, "Sister, let's go out and play
with the fireworks in the neighborhood."
The truth was Coralie was a little afraid of fireworks but it had been so many years since Wayne played
with it. She felt that he would be disappointed if no one accompanied him, thus she agreed and replied,
"Okay, but I'll stand at the door and watch. I'm not going out."
"Okay."
Wayne went along unhesitatingly with her condition and both of them went downstairs with a plastic
bag full of firecrackers.
Meanwhile, Hera knew that she was no longer young and it would be better for her to watch them from
the balcony.
In the meantime, a lot of neighbors were gathered when Carolie and Wayne got downstairs. There
were all sorts of firecrackers being set off one after another.
Following that, Wayne set up the firecrackers he bought in an open space not far away. He lit it and ran
away quickly. At the same time, Coralie hid behind the door of the building and peered through the
crack of the door.
Wayne was running back after lighting the fireworks when a white car drove through a bunch of
firecrackers. Coralie did not pay attention to the car until the car stopped at an empty space nearby.
Following that, a tall man in a dark gray coat got out of the car.
"Skylar?" she called uncertainly.
It was late at night and Coralie was not sure whether the man she spotted was Skylar.
However, the colorful and flickering firecrackers illuminated the man as he walked over. His posture
and strode was elegant as if he was a god descending from the sky. His face was adorned with the
light from the firecrackers and gradually, his handsome and distinctive facial features came clearly into
the picture.
"Skylar?" Coralie asked.
"Brother Holland!" Wayne exclaimed.
Immediately, Coralie and Wayne recognized Skylar simultaneously when the latter walked to the
building.
Coralie asked, "Why are you here?"
She was taken aback by his sudden appearance. Should he not be with the Holland family?
"I miss you," Skylar replied.
Even in front of Wayne, Skylar did not bother to hide his affection.
"Ahem, I'm going to play with my firecrackers. You two can just continue," Wayne said quickly.
If there was one principle Wayne bore, it was to never interrupt a couple when they were dating!
After Wayne left, Coralie asked, "Why are you here on such an important occasion? Are you sure it's
okay?"
"It's okay. My family members don't stay up at night and I came over after everyone is asleep," Skylar
reassured her.
In the meantime, Coralie came downstairs on a whim, thus she was wearing her down jacket, scarf and
hat over her pajamas.
"Do I look ugly like this?" Coralie was a little embarrassed. She looked like a middle-aged woman with
an attire like this.
"No, it's pretty cute," Skylar teased.
"Cute? It's been a while since I've heard someone describe me as cute," Coralie pouted and continued,
"Since it's Christmas, I'm almost a year older now. I'm turning 26 after New Year."
"So?" Skylar asked.
Skylar did not quite understand what Coralie meant.
"I read it from the internet that people had misunderstood men. In fact, men are quite faithful because
no matter how old they get, they prefer young girls. Yet, I'm already 26 and I'm way past that limit that
would make men stay faithful to me."
Coralie explained.
