Chapter 145
Chapter 145
"Since she got injured because of Coralie, I'm fine with compensating her. I don't have an issue with
giving her money or to accompany her for treatments. But I have an issue with marrying her."
Skylar Holland held the phone and his face darkened.
He was the President of Skyton Corporation, therefore Amelia Harington and Valerie Rae were never a
threat to him. However, the real threat that he had to face was Valerie's father.
He was the President of the Rae Group.
In fact, Valerie's father had warned Skylar as soon as he found out that his daughter would harm
herself if Skylar were to leave her.
His threat was simple but powerful. He could push Skyton Corporation into turmoil, and it would very
likely result in retrenchment in Skylar's company.
As the President of Skyton Corporation, it was impossible for him to disregard his staff and shatter their
means of income.
"Skylar, why are you so obsessed with Coralie? She had a miscarriage, and we don't know if she could
get pregnant again. Moreover, do you think that your father would agree to your marriage with Coralie?
He is abroad now, that is why he had not done anything. Once he is back, he will certainly take care of
it."
Lillian Ford saw that her son was determined, so she had to use her husband to coerce him.
"It's my own business, so you don't have to worry about it. Don't get involved in this matter anymore. If
you want to buy something, just let me know. I will buy it for you. If you think that your allowance isn't
enough, I will give more to you. Don't give in to others unnecessarily just because of some gifts."
In fact, Skylar had known that Valerie would frequently give presents to Lillian. He didn't take it to heart
at first, because he would pay back the gift eventually. He would pay her back with money most of the
time.
However, he didn't expect that Lillian would agree to the engagement and even set a date for it.
"Son, how could you say that? I'm your mother. Valerie is a suitable match for you. She is from a good
family and her background is on par with ours."
Lillian tried her best to hide her selfishness behind her persuasion.
"Mom, you're from a working-class family. My father married you, and he didn't dislike your family
background. Do you have any right to dislike Coralie now?"
Skylar couldn't bear it anymore and finally blurted this sentence out.
Previously, when Lillian disliked Coralie openly, Skylar had already suppressed the urge to say all
these words. Now that Lillian had crossed the line, he too stopped holding back.
"It's not the same."
"Pray tell, what's the difference?" Skylar was frustrated, "Go to bed early. Goodnight."
After that, he hung up the phone.
Valerie had returned to her home recently because of her engagement. She had said that she wanted
to discuss with her family about the engagement.
Only Skylar was left in the house. He stood in front of the window of the study and looked out of the
window. He then called Coralie.
At this moment, Coralie Chariott was lying down on her bed. She was watching the news with her
mobile phone. She was surprised when she saw Skylar calling her.
She thought that Skylar was going to inform her of the divorce agreement. Although she was reluctant
to answer the call, she still picked it up.
"Hello."
"Beep, beep, beep..."
As soon as Coralie picked up the phone, Skylar quickly hung up.
He realized that he really didn't know what to say to Coralie.
He hoped that he could put a stop to every disturbing matter before asking her to come back to him.
On the other side of the phone, Coralie thought that Skylar had dialed the wrong number. Although she
was slightly disappointed, she did not call him back.
......
Monday soon arrived, and there was still a week left before the engagement. After a meeting in his
company, Skylar rushed to the Rae Group.
As soon as he arrived at the entrance of the building of Rae Group, the receptionist stopped him and
asked, "Sir, do you have an appointment?" All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
"I'm the President of Skyton Corporation."
Skylar took out his business card and put it in front of the front desk.
In fact, Skylar was quite famous in A city. The receptionist took a closer look and quickly recognized
Skylar. He then apologized, "I'm sorry, President Holland. I'll contact President Rae immediately."
"Okay."
After contacting Valerie's father, the receptionist quickly allowed Skylar to go up.
Skylar took the elevator to the top floor and went straight into the President's office.
Valerie's father, Hector Rae, stayed seated and did not get up. Seeing that Skylar had walked in, he
greeted with a smile, "Skylar, here you are."
"President Rae, I came here today because I have something to say to you."
"Alright. Have a seat."
Hector was smiling. He seemed like a kind old man.
However, Skylar knew better than anyone else. He was a devil masked with the facade of an angel.
"President Rae, I will find the best doctor in the world to cure Valerie's illness. I'll pay for it, and I could
even accompany her to her treatment sessions."
Skylar did not take a seat and he immediately cut to the chase.
Hector's smile faded.
"Skylar, what do you mean?"
"That's right. The marriage, I'm afraid that I'm not going to..."
Skylar didn't finish his sentence, but his meaning was obvious.
Hector was sitting at the table as he picked up the green tea cup nonchalantly and took a sip. Then, he
looked up and said to Skylar, "I remember that I have made it clear to you half a year ago. We are all
bosses, and the fate of employees is in our hands. I hope that you understand this. Many of your
employees may lose their jobs thanks to your impulsive decision. Countless families will be in trouble
because of it."
He weighed each word slowly and heavily, reminding Skylar of his responsibility.
In fact, this was a major concern of all employers. Every decision they made would cause a ripple
effect on the company. Only when a company operates normally that the staff could keep their job.
Hector prodded at Skylar's Achilles' heel. When he knew about Valerie's disorder, he threatened Skylar
with the shares he had at hand.
After all, Hector was the boss of the Rae Group, and Skyton Corporation was only a company under
the Holland family. Even though it was successful, it still paled in comparison when compared to the
Rae Group.
"President Rae, I'm here to have a good and sincere discussion with you."
"Skylar, you are still young. You don't understand the feelings of a father. Valerie is my only daughter,
and you are the preferred candidate to be my son-in-law."
Hector said.
Skylar had been an excellent and outstanding person ever since he was a child. In fact, not only
Hector, countless of affluent and eminent families thought of Skylar as an apple in their eyes.
At that time, the Holland family and the Rae family was close. This naturally led to the extensive
amount of time that Skylar and Valerie had spent together.
"President Rae, I'm sorry for what had happened to Valerie. But I hope that you could understand. In
fact, I came here today because I have already made up my mind. Please don't push me to my edge."
Skylar was sitting on a large black sofa, his obsidian eyes staring straight at Hector.
It represented his will to never compromise.
