Chapter 156
Chapter 156
Skylar Holland looked at the tears on Valerie's face, but he retracted his hand from hers. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Valerie Rae feigned indifference when Skylar took his hand away, "Skylar, are you hungry? I have
asked the chef to make some breakfast for you. Would you like some?"
"Where is Coralie?"
Skylar knew that Coralie Chariott was also injured, but he didn't know if her injury was serious. He only
saw the huge bloodstain on her clothes.
"Skylar..." Valerie's face fell, "You should care for yourself now instead of her. Why are you so worried
about her?"
"Where is she?"
"She just had a small cut. You injured your kidney and you had undergone surgery for six hours,"
Valerie was upset. She added, "I didn't stay with you for the whole night just to hear about her as soon
as you wake up."
In fact, she slept very well the previous night. Coralie was the one who stayed up all night by his side.
Therefore, Valerie was sure that Coralie couldn't be awake at this time.
However, Wayne Chariott called while Coralie was taking a nap. He had finished giving his statement
at the police station. The police also asked Coralie to give a witness statement.
Coralie had been sleeping like a log, but she had to wake up for it.
She intended to head straight to the police station, but she was concerned about Skylar.
Before she knew it, she had already found herself walking towards his ward.
"Hello."
Coralie had just arrived at the entrance of the corridor, but she caught sight of Anthony Holland
standing there at the door.
"Hello, Uncle Holland."
Anthony came with Lillian Ford and Valerie yesterday. Judging from the way he was standing there in a
suit and exuding his exceptional aura, Coralie guessed that he must be Skylar's father.
Since such a big incident had happened to Skylar, it was only normal for his father to return from
abroad.
"I have investigated your background. Your father passed away in a car accident six years ago, and
your mother was laid off. You have a younger brother who has just started his second year in university
this year. Your family expenses basically depend on your father's compensation."
Anthony went straight to the point and delineated the situation in Coralie's family.
"Yes."
Coralie answered. She had already guessed what Anthony would say next.
"You've just bought a house recently, and my son paid for it. He married you for a year as a good-luck-
bride, and he gave you 5 million dollars for the agreement."
"Yes."
Anthony had a clear grasp of everything. In the face of it, Coralie could only admit to the truth.
"I hope you understand that despite your value, my son had given you 5 million dollars because of your
past relationship. You should know best whether you deserve this money, but I won't look into what
happened before."
Since Anthony was able to investigate her background so clearly, he must have known what had
happened between Skylar and her when they were in university.
......
"A poor person like you value love, but we are businessmen. Businessmen only care about interests. If
you still bear any unrealistic fantasy about the Holland family or becoming the next Mrs. Holland, I
suggest you cast those thoughts away. Otherwise, I will force you to return the money," After Anthony
finished speaking, he looked at the quiet Coralie. Then he added, "Well, that's all I want to say."
It could be said that although Anthony and Lillian shared the same purpose, their styles were
completely different.
He was straightforward and his purpose was clear.
"I know that I'm not worthy of the Holland family. I'll leave after I see Skylar."
Coralie stood where she was.
If Anthony had not intervened, she could still hold on to the slightest fleck of chance for her.
Now that Anthony had already spoken his mind, what else could she say?
"Okay."
Anthony was parsimonious with his time and words. He had already said what he needed to.
He fixed his clothes and turned to leave.
......
When Coralie arrived outside Skylar's ward, she heard Valerie's voice from inside.
"Skylar, would you like to have some apples? I'll peel some for you."
Coralie couldn't care less anymore. After all, it was Wayne who contacted Skylar this time. The Chariott
family could never brush their responsibility off Skylar's injury.
When she entered the ward, Skylar happened to look at her and his eyes darkened.
"You're awake."
Coralie stood at the door.
"Miss Chariott, what are you..."
"Valerie, give us some privacy."
Before Valerie could finish her words, Skylar had already interrupted her.
She didn't expect to be cut off, so she stopped speaking. She looked at Skylar indignantly.
After all, it was Coralie who had accompanied Skylar the previous night. If Coralie were to tell him the
truth, her lie would be exposed!
"Skylar."
"Get out."
While Valerie was talking, Skylar shot her a stern glance.
She had no choice but to leave.
However, when she walked past Coralie, Valerie's eyes revealed a trace of calculation.
After Valerie left, Coralie said, "I'm sorry, it was our family matters but I dragged you into it. You even
got hurt."
"It's better for him to hurt me than to hurt you," Skylar waved his hand and said to Coralie, "Come
here."
Coralie hesitated. She wanted to go to him, but what Anthony said before lingered in her mind.
Skylar saw that she stayed motionless and said, "I can't move now, else I would have gone to you."
"I'll go over."
Coralie took a few steps towards Skylar's bed. She looked at his clothes that were slightly open, and
the gauze on his waist was exposed. Her heart ached.
She pointed at Skylar's wound and said, "It must hurt, I'm sorry."
Seeing his injury, Coralie couldn't help but apologize. She didn't know what else she could do except
for apologizing.
"It doesn't hurt anymore.
"That's good."
Skylar stretched his hand out and pulled Coralie's collar open. He saw that there was a beige-colored
bandage on it. He touched it gently with his slender fingers, "Is it serious?"
Coralie didn't expect that Skylar would ask her to come near him just because he wanted to check her
wound. She shook her head quickly and said, "No, it doesn't hurt. It's just a cut."
"That's good."
Skylar repeated what Coralie had just said.
The two of them were very close to each other. Coralie looked up and happened to meet the man's
eyes. His gaze was hot and passionate.
Her face turned red in an instant.
"You waited for me outside the surgery room all night, didn't you?"
Skylar knew that Coralie would definitely accompany him. As for Valerie's words, he merely took it with
a grain of salt.
"Yes... I have been accompanying you in the ward the whole time. After that... I got sleepy, so your
mother and..."
Coralie didn't want to say that Valerie and Lillian had driven her away.
He knew that she didn't want to spoil his relationship with his mother. Looking at the woman who was
trying her best not to speak ill of Lillian, Skylar reached out his hand to hold the woman's face and said
affectionately, "Honey, I miss you."
