Chapter 571 Overflowing Affection
Chapter 571 Overflowing Affection
"No way," Leigh said happily. "Our Young Master Lucas is annoyed with Ann. He's afraid his brother will be charmed by her and fall into her trap. Of course, he'll be thrilled to know that I've saved his brother from her clutches. I'm sure he'll reward me!"
Speechless, Madeline could not help but tease her. "Oh, your Young Master Lucas? You remember he's a Hart, right?"
"Well, aren't I also part of the Harts?" Leigh hugged her neck and grinned. "We're all part of the Harts, so you could say he's part of our family. Is there a problem with that?"
Madeline replied, "No, you're right. I suppose Katy is doing fine, judging by your look. I can finally rest assured now."
"Of course," Leigh said. "I'm a divine doctor; I can heal her completely as long as she's alive and well, even if her injuries are severe. I guarantee there won't be any lingering effects."
Madeline laughed. "Yeah, bravo!" Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
Every time she saw Leigh so confidently happy, she sincerely believed that regardless of gender, a person should possess some skills. Leigh had genuine talent and knowledge, so she faced anyone and anything with confidence and fearlessness.
So what if Grayson was the second young master of the Harts? Leigh still said whatever she wanted without any reservations, all because she had the ability and confidence to live freely.
Madeline admired this side of her. At the thought of how she was not only her colleague, best friend,
and sister but also a potential sister-in-law and family member in the future, she could not help but feel excited.
Thinking of that, she asked, "How are you and Lucas doing? When are you getting engaged?"
"Engaged?" Leigh said nonchalantly, "Things are fine as they are now. I prefer the flirting game with hot young dudes."
Madeline was confused. "Aren't you looking for commitment?"
"Well, he's not." Leigh explained, "He's got commitment issues and doesn't wanna get married."
Madeline frowned. "Does he still feel that way now?"
"I haven't followed up, but probably." Leigh added, "I don't mind, honestly. I like the way my life is now. He may not be into marriage, but he's into me! Trust me, we have a great time together."
"But isn't this situationship a lil' too fickle?" Madeline worried for them.
"I think it's fine." Leigh shrugged indifferently. "Let's live in the moment and have fun now. We can worry about the future later!"
Madeline was speechless. These two are truly a perfect match made in heaven.
Seeing her helplessness, Leigh chuckled and beckoned her with his finger, but Madeline did not move.
At that, Leigh playfully leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Let's just have fun for now. Who knows, I might end up getting knocked up. Do you think Young Master Lucas will take responsibility?"
Madeline was dumbfounded. She's never serious!
"I object!" she said solemnly. "Leigh, I won't interfere with how you and Lucas fool around, but when it comes to a child, you can't be careless. You must be legally married before you can get pregnant… You've heard how harshly people mocked Aldo and Buddy; it's inevitable, but we didn't have a choice. You, on the other hand, do, and I won't sit around and allow you to be so reckless about marriage and children."
Leigh was taken aback. Fine. She's right. We can do whatever we want because we can, but when it comes to a child, it's a different world. We can't let them bear the stigma of being illegitimate.
"Alright." She shrugged. "I'll come up with something."
For some reason, Madeline wanted to defend Lucas and say, "Poor Lucas."
What was that about? Lucas is not pitiful at all, alright? Leigh has been so good to him, and although he's never confessed to her, he cares about her more than anyone else. With just one phone call from her, he would follow her around without any complaints. His relentless care toward her gives Leigh so much faith that she knows he wouldn't think twice about doing anything for her, even in a dire situation. He gotta be in love with her, right? But he has to have commitment issues. Jeez! How is he Poor Lucas in this story?
Still, Madeline found him pitiful… It must be an illusion. It has to be!
After whispering to each other for a while, Madeline and Leigh were approached by a nurse who pushed Caitlin out of the operating room. Madeline held Leigh's hand and went to see her.
Caitlin was still under the influence of anesthesia and was in a drowsy state as she was pushed into the intensive care unit. Family members were not allowed to accompany patients in the ICU, so after making sure Caitlin was settled, the group left the unit.
Madeline told Sebastian, "You should head back with Aldo and Buddy."
"What about you?" he asked.
The two women held hands, and Madeline replied, "Leigh and I are going to the police station to see how the case is progressing."
"Yeah." Leigh added, "I just asked—Ann said she was injured by Lucian and needs to be hospitalized. She's still in the hospital, so we're going to the station to ask when they plan to catch him."
"Alright, go ahead." Sebastian said, "I'll have Carlisle meet you at the station."
Grayson was speechless. Carlisle is the chief lawyer of Hart Corporation. For a minor traffic accident, is it necessary to involve him? Probably not, but Sebastian must be taking this opportunity to show how much he loves his wife.
The way Sebastian spoiled Madeline was baffling, and it worried Grayson.
After hesitating, he finally could not hold back and asked cautiously, "Will today's incident be considered an accident?" He hoped to categorize this case as a traffic accident rather than intentional
harm.
If it was a traffic accident, considering Caitlin's injuries, the most severe consequence would be a fine and a few months of detention before Ann could be released. On the optimistic side, there might be a fine and compensation without detention.
However, if it was classified as intentional harm, there would be significant trouble and imprisonment.
As the chief lawyer of Hart Corporation, Carlisle possessed exceptional abilities. He could even convince people that the dead were alive, so today's car accident—a mere traffic accident—could be transformed into intentional harm through his eloquence.
If Ann was convicted of intentional harm, her punishment would begin with at least one year, given Caitlin's injuries. One year may not sound lengthy, but it was sufficient to ruin her future.
After being influenced by his older brother and experiencing a long period of self-reflection, Grayson no longer harbored any romantic feelings for Ann… or rather, he never had genuine feelings for her. It could simply be because of his reserved personality and struggles with interpersonal interactions, so only a few became worthy in his heart.
During his youth, Ann took great care of him, thus becoming his family. Though they did not share a blood relationship, she was the only woman who could get close to him. Hence, he developed some sentiments for her.
He used to not comprehend that and mistakenly believed those sentiments were love. However, since Sebastian married Madeline and Leigh and Lucas started dating, he witnessed their affection and came to a clear understanding.
No, his feelings for Ann were not love.
Nevertheless, they still shared a genuine bond, and he yearned for her to find happiness.
