Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1212

Chapter 1212

Pearl decided to meet Chester with Richard. After Lorrie's visit, both of them thought meeting Chester might help them discover the truth faster.

Chester's home wasn't far from where they lived, but the road was rough and uneven.

It took them over an hour to drive there, and when they finally arrived, they couldn't help but notice how run-down the place looked. They both frowned at the sight.

Jasmine didn't seem like she was poor. So, they wondered why she chose to live in such a hard-to-reach and poor area.

"Maybe... she chose to live here not because she's broke, but because it's out of the way and feels safer," Pearl guessed, but she found it very likely.

Jasmine avoided making eye contact with them, probably because she was scared they might find her. But why was she afraid?

Pearl found this very baffling. She knew she needed to talk to Jasmine soon to get to the bottom of it.

Walking toward Jasmine's place, they passed by trash and a dilapidated building that looked like it hadn't been fixed in years. Despite its condition, it hadn't been torn down, likely because it would affect the poor families living nearby.

The inside was dark and damp, with a flickering light here and there. Jasmine's apartment was on the third floor. It wasn't fancy, but it felt cozier and better kept than the rest of the building.

The paint was peeling off the walls. Pearl stood carefully outside, not wanting to damage anything further. She gently knocked on the old door.

A voice from inside asked, "Who is it?"

Luckily, the door didn't have a peephole. If Jasmine knew it was them who had come without warning, she might have panicked.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

So, Pearl cleverly disguised her voice and asked if Jasmine was there, good enough that Jasmine didn't suspect it was her.

Still cautious, Jasmine asked, "Who is it? Why do you know my name?"

"I'm here to check the water meter," Pearl lied.

Richard almost laughed hearing that. It wasn't a very convincing excuse, especially since Jasmine would likely know who usually came for such tasks.

She immediately questioned, "Who the hell are you?"

Pearl, trying to sound frustrated and rushed, explained, "I really didn't plan on coming, but the person who usually does this couldn't make it today. So, here I am, stuck with this job. Can you please just help me out here? Thanks."

She sounded so convincingly annoyed that Jasmine's suspicion lessened, though she still double-checked. "Are you really here to check the water meter?"

"Yes, of course, I'm here for the water meter. Why would I lie?" Pearl said, pretending to be bothered by the question.
