Pearl's heart ached when she heard that. Even though Jasmine had done such a wicked thing, she stuck to her beliefs and didn't tell Chester who his father was. Jasmine really didn't want to mess up Richard's life. Because of this, Pearl started to see Chester in a new, kinder light.
Richard guessed what Pearl was about to say but was worried she might regret it later. He whispered, " Pearl, are you sure—"
"We need to tell him. He's already lost his mother, he shouldn't lose his father too."
Pearl's voice was gentle yet firm. "Your father is-"
But just then, a man came forward from behind. "I'm your dad."
Pearl stared at the man, surprised and speechless. "What are you doing here, Sean?"
Sean raised his brow. "This is a hospital. Why wouldn't I be here?"
He had a cold and was at the hospital to see a doctor. By chance, he ran into them.
He overheard their conversation and was shocked by the news. He could tell the boy was Richard's son because they looked so much alike. Moreover, Pearl wasn't angry and even wanted to welcome the boy. It was beyond Sean's expectations.
But he knew the boy would change things between them. So, Sean stepped in.
"You're back from abroad?"
"Yes, I've been back for a while. The boss retired and left me to handle everything. I'm here on a business trip."
"How about your brother?"
"Oh, him." Sean smiled and shook his head. "He's busy with his research and can't help me."
Then, Sean moved closer and knelt down in front of Chester, gently pinching his cheek. "Do you know who I am?"
Chester was too shy and scared to speak when he saw this stranger suddenly appear. "I don't know."
Sean frowned and shook Chester's face a bit. "Didn't I just tell you? I'm your dad."
But Chester was still cautious and a bit sad. "If you're my dad, what's my mom's name?"
Chester thought fast, leaving Sean helpless. "I don't know."
Chester stepped back, looking disappointed. "If you don't even know my mom's name, how can you say you're my dad?"
Sean widened his eyes. "Why do I need to know your mom's name? She didn't know my name either."
Chester hadn't thought of that. His mom had never mentioned his dad's name, maybe she didn't know it herself.
