A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 832: Heartache

“Why didn’t you dodge? You fool!” Brendon grumbled.

“Do you think I didn’t want to? If I could have dodged, would I be burned like this?” Ranita pouted angrily and glared at Brendon.

Brendon frowned, looking upset.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt when you came back?” Brendon asked again.

“Did you give me a chance to? You were sulking and being jealous!” Ranita said, feeling inexplicably nervous.

Brendon being jealous meant he truly cared about her!

She suddenly felt very happy and excited, as if she had tasted sweet honey.

Brendon fell silent. “I’m sorry.”

“You changed your clothes because you got coffee spilled on you, right? It was my fault for being jealous without understanding the reason.”

Brendon’s straightforward admission made Ranita’s heart race even more.

Ranita had waited for this day for many years, thinking her true feelings would always remain buried and never see the light of day.

Now, did she have a chance…?

“Even if I was wrong, you should have told me. Hiding in the bathroom to apply ointment by yourself… it makes my heart ache.”

Brendon still held her leg. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

His long arms were full of strength, and her legs were white and beautiful. The scene was suddenly filled with an ambiguous atmosphere, like a wave of heat sweeping through her heart, making it beat even faster.

“Um…” Ranita blushed, feeling very shy.

“Can you let go of me first?”

Brendon ignored her and instead reached out his hand. “Where’s the ointment? I’ll help you apply it.”

“No need, I can do it myself!” She wasn’t helpless; why did Brendon need to help? “Besides, you’re still a patient! How can I let a patient help?”

Brendon stared at her intently, raising an eyebrow.

His imposing manner made Ranita unable to muster any resistance. She handed him the ointment and said, “Then be gentle! It hurts!”

“Okay.” Brendon unscrewed the ointment cap, pressing one hand on her leg while gently applying the ointment with his fingertips on her burn.

She couldn’t tell if it was the coolness of the ointment or his touch that made her body tremble involuntarily.

Even her toes curled up in tension.

“Does it hurt?” Brendon asked in a low voice.

“No.” Although the coffee was hot, it had cooled down by the time it spilled on her, and she had treated it quickly, so her skin was just red and slightly prickly.

“Liar!” Brendon continued applying the ointment, his fingers moving in a way that tugged at Ranita’s nerves with each touch.

Ranita felt like the skin on her foot was burning. She timidly reached out to pull the thin blanket over her legs but saw Brendon’s fingers suddenly land on the hem of her skirt.

“The skirt is in the way. Take it off.”

Ranita’s face turned even redder.

“No…”

“The burn extends to your thigh. Don’t you want to apply ointment there?” Brendon asked seriously, without a hint of emotion.

Ranita felt ashamed of her own thoughts.

After hesitating for a moment, she lifted her skirt slightly. “This will do.”

Her well-proportioned thighs led up to a perky bottom, the contrast of black and white making her fair skin look even more like snow.

The faint glimpse made her heart itch even more.

Brendon’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he continued applying the ointment. “All done!”

“Oh, oh!” Ranita wanted to say something more but saw Brendon turn and leave. Soon she heard the sound of water running as he washed his hands.

The heat on her face dissipated a bit.

Just as she was about to adjust her skirt, Brendon returned and pulled her into a kiss on the bed.
