Chapter 898: Deception
We’ll deal with future matters in the future.
Right now, Ranita just wanted Brendon to stay away from her. His body radiated heat, and whenever he got close, her mind went blank.
Ranita feared she might lose her bearings and be tricked by him again.
She shifted slightly, accidentally bumping her thigh against his waist. Brendon hissed in pain. Although he could move around, his injuries hadn’t fully healed.
“What’s wrong? Does it hurt?” Ranita asked, extremely worried.
Brendon hadn’t intended to tease her, but seeing her so anxious, he leaned his head on her shoulder and whimpered pitifully, “Yes, it hurts quite a bit.”
He even took a sharp breath for effect.
Ranita grew more nervous. “Lie down!” she urged, reaching out to touch his forehead. Realizing how foolish she was being, she laughed at herself. “Oh dear, I’m being silly! Let me see your wound.”
Brendon turned over and lay on the sofa.
Without thinking much, Ranita lifted his shirt. What met her eyes was a set of well-defined abs, not overly muscular but beautifully toned.
Ranita felt her ears burning.
“Where does it hurt?” Brendon had been stabbed before, leaving a scar on his side.
He had a strong constitution and had taken some time to recover enough to walk. If the knife had struck her, Ranita might not have survived.
Every time she saw that scar, Ranita felt a pang of heartache.
The scar was still pink and looked somewhat frightening.
“Ranita…” Seeing her eyes redden, Brendon reached out to touch the corner of her eye and comforted her. “I’m fine! It hurt a bit earlier, but it doesn’t hurt now.”
“Really?”
Brendon sighed inwardly; he shouldn’t have teased her.
“Really! The wound has healed!” Brendon took her hand and placed it on the scar, letting her feel his abs in the process.

“Brendon, you’re lying to me!” Ranita bared her teeth. “Next time, I won’t care about you!”
“I’m not lying!” Brendon reached out and hugged her, pulling her onto him as they rolled together on the sofa. “It really did hurt earlier.”
“But if you kiss me, it won’t hurt anymore.” Brendon never missed a chance to be affectionate.
Ranita looked at him curiously and muttered softly, “How did you become like this? You used to be so aloof!”
His aloofness had cost him his wife.
Brendon had deeply reflected on this.
“Let’s not talk about the past. Kiss me now.” Brendon caressed Ranita’s cheek. “Ouch… it seems to hurt again.”
Ranita blushed as she looked at him.
She leaned in and kissed him lightly. “Is it better now?”
“No! One kiss isn’t enough!” Brendon coughed lightly, making Ranita tense up. “Does it really hurt? Do you need to see a doctor?”
“Just a little. If you kiss me more, it won’t hurt!” Brendon held her tightly. “If you’re really worried, you can kiss me a few more times.”
Ranita couldn’t help but laugh.
She lay on his chest, giggling. This sly man was definitely tricking her, but she wasn’t angry at all; instead, she felt sweet inside.
She must have fallen under Brendon’s spell!
Ranita had never known that liking someone could reach such an extent. Everything about him tugged at her heartstrings.
“What are you laughing at?” Brendon asked seriously.
Ranita nudged him with her chin, her eyes sparkling.
She said sweetly, “Brendon… kissing you isn’t impossible…”
