Redmption 293

Yerick was six feet tall and could have brought me down to the floor if he had pulled my arm harder. I swayed in place as I struggled to regain my footi

She looked stormy, and for a moment, I was shocked to realize she was not as beautiful up close.

Why did I ever think she was pretty?

Perhaps one's face was determined by one's feelings Judging by how twisted she was, it made sense. that her appearance would reflect it.

"Yerick, come here!" Jewe seethed, glowering at her younger sibling.

"Madeline, save me!" Yerick pleaded like a helpless child behind me.

I rolled my eyes and cursed his wimpy ass. Annoyed, I snapped, "Let go of me!"

"Madeline, please!" he begged, gluing himself to me as a child would when asking for favors.

I gritted my teeth and raised my leg, bringing my heel down on Yerick's foot. He yelped in pain and let go out of instinct.

My arm freed. I rubbed my skin against my shirt as if to wipe off the feel of his fingers and walked away. However, Jewel stuck her arm out to cut me o

"I didn't peg you for the cruel, vicious type, Madeline," Jewel bit out, her words catching me off guard. The next second, my surprise was replaced by f "You turned the Gildons against me and made them pick on me even though you and Chris are already over! Did you think you'd win? It's not as if Chr Enlightened, I thought about what Bree had told me before. As it turned out, she made good on her word and kicked Jewel out of the house.

I had tried to stop Bree then, but now, I secretly praised her bold move. As such, I did not balk under Jewel's mutinous gaze and merely snorted. "I dor Jewel's face turned white with anger, "What do you have to gain from it anyway?"

"Gain?" I laughed humorlessly. "Your suffering is my biggest gain."

If she was so set on painting me as a villain, I might as well play the part.

"You-" Jewel's lips quivered, but she did not know what to say to me.

I didn't want to waste my breath on her, so I stepped away from her extended arm and left.

Yerick yelled behind me, so insistent that it bordered on irritating, "Remember to turn up at my birthday party, Madeline!"

There was a pause, then, "Ow! Jewel! Stop it! Use your words-Madeline, help!"

He could have added "Your

Highness before my name, and wouldn't have bothered helping him. I could tell by his cries and wails that Jewel was lashing out at him after enduring my sharp words.

I hurried out of the station with the case documents in hand. I wanted to read it someplace quiet where I

could calm down, so I brisk-walked to the car.

Alas, the universe was keen on mocking me today. I had only just reached my car when I ran into Chris. And because the universe had a twisted sense of humor, Chris' car was parked parallel to mine.

The last thing I wanted to do was speak to him. I was about to ignore him and get into my car when he said, “Maddie.”

I did not turn around. Keeping my back to him, I said coldly, "I'm busy." With that, I got into my car with a flourish.

However, he held the edge of the car door to keep me from closing it. I was desperate to read the case file on my parents' accident, but the world was

Furious, I snapped, “What the hell do you want, Chris? have nothing to say to you! Let go!"

"Mom kicked Jewel out of the house. Did you know that?" Chris asked, his gaze dark as he leveled it upon me. He had phrased his accusation as a question, but heard it all the same.

I could understand Jewel's grudge

against me, but I didn't think Chris, I

with whom had been together for a decade, would accuse me of such pettiness. I scoffed, finally seeing the decade I had wasted on him as a hilarious fever dream.

I did not deny his accusation, either. Instead, I pointed out venomously, "She should have been kicked out a long time ago. She never belonged in thatBelongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
