Skylar neatly folded the letters and put them back in her bag before answering the call.
“Have you had your lunch break?” Joe asked.
Hearing Joe’s voice made Skylar momentarily lose her focus. Glancing at the time, she realized it was already noon and softly responded, “Yes.”
Joe paused briefly after hearing Skylar’s response. About a minute later, he asked, “Did Mr. Gardner Senior assign you a difficult task?”
“No, it’s just a bit exhausting,” Skylar replied, her voice trembling slightly as she gripped her phone. Her eyes were reddening. She needed time to figure out how to discuss the divorce with him. She could doubt anyone else but not Viola. But…
“Alright, let me know if you need anything,” Joe said.
Skylar agreed. Joe then mentioned that Gloria had prepared a meal at Pearlhall Residence and wanted them to come over for dinner..
The mention of Gloria made Skylar’s eyes well up again. She managed to keep her voice steady as she replied, “Okay, I’ll see you at Pearlhall Residence tonight.”
After Joe hung up, he tapped his fingers on the desk. He lowered his gaze and pondered for a moment. Then, he pulled out his phone and dialed Alexander’s number.
“Mr. Gardner Senior.”
“Joe, is that you? What’s up?” Alexander replied.
Joe said, “Yes, it’s about Skylar. I spoke with her just now. She seemed off. Did you give her something particularly challenging to handle? Should I assist in any way?”
Upon hearing his words, Alexander signed internally. It seemed Skylar hadn’t shared the full details with Joe yet and was still uncertain about how to approach the situation.
Alexander said, “It’s likely quite challenging. However, if she needs help from you, she’ll let you know. In the meantime, please be understanding with her. Skye is going through a tough time.”
Despite Skylar’s ability to handle the negative items in Jipsburg, Viola’s directive meant she could no longer manage them.
This already took a toll on Skylar. But receiving the second letter asking her to divorce Joe felt like it had pushed her to the brink. She was now trapped in a situation where every option seemed impossible, and every decision felt like a lose–lose scenario.
Now, seeing Joe’s reaction, it seemed overly cruel to ask two people who cared about each other to divorce.
Alexander couldn’t help but sigh.
After finishing her coffee, Skylar decided to leave the café. She wasn’t particularly hungry and intended to grab a quick bite at a nearby deli. As she was heading that way, she spotted Rowan and Jenny entering
the café.
They were walking one after the other, both wearing stern expressions that suggested they had just had a
heated argument.
Unlike their previous encounters, this time, they didn’t immediately notice Skylar.
Jenny, feeling aggrieved, reached out and grabbed Rowan’s arm. “Rowan, please don’t get upset. I realize now that I was wrong. I shouldn’t have done that. I didn’t think it through. I’ll just keep quiet if we run into Minerva next time.” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
She had not expected to bump into Minerva while shopping. Jenny also suspected that Minerva had deliberately appeared in their path.
