Joe’s eyes carried a hint of a smile. Suddenly, he felt that if he had enough of living in Jipsburg City, he could come here to stay for a while each year.
Living simply with Skylar here felt quite comfortable.
“After dinner, let’s visit Grandma Viola’s place. Mrs. Munoz Senior likely didn’t mistake her. Grandma Viola must have come back a few days ago,” Skylar suggested. There was a trace of regret in her voice.
She should have returned a couple of days earlier. Then, they might still have gotten a chance to see Viola.
But then again, if Viola had returned a few days ago, she wondered if that meant someone had forced her to write those letters.
She hadn’t thought much about it when Alma mentioned Viola earlier. But now, as the thoughts settled in, an unsettling feeling crept over her.
The nightmares referenced in the letters were a past she wished to forget. She wondered if those letters truly indicated Viola’s intentions.
Joe noticed the quick shift in Skylar’s emotions and asked, “Are you worried about Grandma Viola?”
He sensed that there was something more than just concern in her voice when she mentioned her. It felt like she was harboring a fear, and he wondered what she feared.
It seemed that both she and Alexander were deliberately concealing something lately. He felt that it was somehow likely related to Viola and them. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Grandma Viola is getting older. From what Mrs. Munoz Senior said, she’s been unwell lately. I just don’t know if she can take care of herself,” Skylar admitted, genuinely concerned for Viola’s well– being.
“Don’t worry. Grandma Viola will take care of herself.” Joe reassured her.
“Yeah.”
After finishing their meal, Skylar and Joe headed to Viola’s house just next door. The door was locked, but Skylar had the key.
After unlocking the door and stepping inside, they found the yard had been cleaned thoroughly. It was clear that someone had been living there recently.
Skylar quickly moved to open the door to the house.
Inside, the entire house was as tidy as the yard. It held many of Skylar’s childhood memories. It was a two- story house, and the second floor contained many of Viola’s old belongings, all of which were locked
away.
Skylar had keys that could open those locks. The second floor was spacious, and she remembered that every time she came to Viola’s house to learn how to restore antiques, she would spend her time on that floor.
“Be careful not to touch anything. Grandma Viola has set up some traps. You might get hurt if you’re not careful,” she warned.
Skylar was familiar with the place and felt at ease, but Joe had never been there before, and any careless movement could lead to injury.
Joe nodded in acknowledgment and followed closely behind Skylar as they moved inside. She felt
relaxed surrounded by the items she knew so well.
Skylar pointed to one of the porcelain and said, “I restored that when I was 15. It was my first independent restoration project. Grandma Viola told me I had a talent for it, and I was so happy that I couldn’t sleep that night.”
Joe followed her gaze, looking at the seemingly unremarkable porcelain. It was almost restored to its original state. If one didn’t look closely, they wouldn’t notice any signs of previous damage.
“15 years old?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“That’s impressive.” Joe genuinely praised her.
