Chapter 100: You Have an Ulterior Motive

Chapter 100: You Have an Ulterior Motive

“I have something to do. I’ll return to the company tomorrow afternoon.”

After hanging up the phone, Joseph stepped on the accelerator and went directly to the highway.

It was already evening. Lanxi Town was two hundred kilometres away from Nanking. Joseph did not stop the car all the way and after more than two hours, he arrived at the hospital.

When he just arrived at the door of the ward, he heard Hayden’s screams coming from inside.

“What are you doing? Let go of me!”

Without even thinking, Joseph immediately opened the door and rushed in.

On the hospital bed, the man with gauze on his head wrapped Hayden’s waist with his hands. Although he was having a gauze, one could still see that he looked quite handsome. Hayden struggled out but he surprisingly jumped off the bed and reached out towards Hayden again.

Joseph’s face changed and moved forward. He grabbed the man’s collar from behind while the other hand yanked the man’s arm to his back. The man screamed miserably.

“Hey, you quickly let go of him, he has just been treated. You can’t do this to him.”

Hayden flipped out, “Quickly let go of him.”

Joseph frowned and threw him to the bed, speaking in a cold tone.

“This kind of scoundrel doesn’t deserve to survive a car accident.”

That ‘scoundrel’ understood what Joseph meant and was very scared. He hurriedly crawled onto the bed and wrapped himself tightly with the blanket, revealing only a pair of eyes.

The ward only then became quiet.

Hayden breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Joseph. Her mood was somewhat complicated, “Why are you here?”

“The employee of my company has hit someone so I come to take a look, in case someone will take this opportunity to spread some news that will harm the company.”

Joseph replied certainly with self-confidence and his tone was somewhat aggressive. He was actually bullying Hayden who had not been employed for a long time and did not know that the group had a special publicist team in charge of such matters.

“The police have investigated clearly. My car has a car recorder and it’s true that he himself suddenly came out so I was not able to step on the brakes on time. But at that moment, I was looking at the navigation of the phone so I was also faulty…sorry.”

Hayden really thought that he was here to scold her for doing something wrong.

Joseph frowned and he looked slightly impatient, “Why are you apologizing? I hear your assistant say that it is just a bum? Is it him?”

The person on the bed looked fair and tall. Other than looking slightly silly, he totally did not look like a bum.

Hayden was also a little confused, “But when I hit him at that moment, he was really dressed in a ragged manner and it seemed like he had not taken a shower for quite a long time. His entire body was stinky. After the examination, the doctor says that he has blood clots in his brain and they are apparently there before I hit him.”

“You’ve hit a person whose brain is abnormal.”

Joseph’s very straightforward words summed up the current situation.

“What about his family members, are you able to contact them?”

Hayden shook her head, “There isn’t any contact information with him.”

“After he recovers from his injuries, send him to the temporary shelter of the town.”

Joseph spoke directly and concisely. He decided where this ‘bum’ would go with just one sentence.

“I feel it shouldn’t be like that. After all, I’m the one who has hit him so I should find out where he comes from. It’s possible that his family members are also looking for him and his brain problem may be caused by me.”

Hearing this, Joseph’s face darkened slightly, “Suit yourself.”

Seeing Joseph was going to leave, Hayden quickly went out.

“It’s already so late, where are you going?”

It’s already so dark outside. He would not intend to rush back to Nanking tonight, right?

As expected, Joseph glanced at her and spoke in displeasure.

“I’m going back. I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon. You think I have a lot of time?”

The reason he came was to see if she was fine, not to see her get herself into trouble.

“It’s too late.” Hayden frowned, “There will be a rainstorm tonight. You better stay here for a night and leave tomorrow morning.”

In the morning, Lanxi Town had announced a typhoon and rainstorm warning. Many roads of returning to Nanking were beside mountains. Landslides would occur very easily so it was always wise to play safe.

“Where do I stay?”

“This place is not far from Lanxi Town. The environment of the inn I live in is not bad, do you want to consider it?”

“Okay.”

Joseph agreed almost without any consideration and looked at her, saying, “Let’s go, I haven’t eaten yet.”

He could be persuaded so easily? Hayden froze for a moment and quickly followed Joseph.

When they came out of the hospital, thunder rumbled. Almost instantly, a curtain of rain beat down from the heavens and fell on the car windows. Even the wipers also could not wipe the raindrops away.

Joseph sat in Hayden’s car. The car was driven all the way slowly and leisurely. They took more than half an hour before arriving although the distance was just a few kilometres away.

“This is it.”

Hayden kept the umbrella and led Joseph into the inn. She asked the clerk, “Is there any more room? Arrange a room for him.”

“Sorry, all the rooms are booked, Ms. Downey.” The clerk had an apologetic face, “As it’s raining cats and dogs, the tourists who are originally leaving renew their bookings for one more night. So, I guess not many inns here will have available rooms tonight.”

“Huh?” Hayden was stunned on the spot.

It was awkward. She brought Joseph over but there was already no room…

“Ms. Downey, why don’t you let your boyfriend share a room with you? The room you live in on the second floor is the largest in this inn. There is certainly no problem for two people to stay inside.”

The clerk smiled meaningfully.

“He isn’t…”

“Can.” Without waiting for Hayden to deny, Joseph’s voice sounded.

Hayden’s eyes widened. When she was about to say something, she had been pulled by Joseph to walk towards the second floor.

“Wait, what are you doing?” Back to the room, Hayden pressed Joseph’s hand that was going to close the door, lowered her voice and said, “Don’t tell me that you’re really going to share a room with me?”

“You’re the one who has asked me to stay for one more night.”

Joseph replied certainly with self-confidence.

“But I’m letting you stay in another room, what’s the matter with you to stay in one room with me?”

“It’s okay. I’ll sleep on the bed and you sleep on the sofa.”

Joseph did not bother her and went straight into the room. He looked around and directly sat on the bed.

“How can you like that?” Hayden was annoyed instantly, “This is my room, why should I sleep on the sofa.”

“Then you sleep on the bed, I’ll sleep on the sofa.”

“This makes more senses…”

The moment the words were uttered, Hayden wished that she could slap herself. How could she be so easily tricked by his words?

“Cannot, definitely cannot. I’ll find another place for you to live.” Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

“What are you afraid of?” Joseph looked at her with a frank gaze, “Are you afraid that I’ll do something to you? Don’t worry, I’m quite picky and I’m not that hungry.”

Hearing this, Hayden immediately became irritated, “What the hell are you saying, you’re clearly having an ulterior motive. Don’t think that I don’t know what you have done to me that night in the Maldives.”

That night, although she was seasick and was having a fever after getting wet in the rain, she knew that Joseph had secretly kissed her. It was just that she kept pretending she did not know it.

After the words were uttered, there was no response in the room for a long time.

After quite a while, Joseph took a step closer to her. He spoke in a low, deep and teasing tone as if the clusters of fires in his mind were ignited, “So, what have I done to you that night?”
