Chapter 116: He’s So Petty

Chapter 116: He’s So Petty

Just at this moment…

Knock, knock, knock... The urgent knocking on the door shattered the tender moment between them.

“Ms. Downey, Lillian is awake. How are we going to settle this? The police have arrived.”

Hayden suddenly came to her senses, pushed Joseph off, and quickly sat up.

Knock, knock, knock…

“Ms. Downey, are you there?” Jeff sounded doubtful as he knocked on the door. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

Hayden took a deep breath and forced herself to brace up, “I’m here. I didn’t hear you earlier. I’m busy with something and will be there in five minutes. You go ahead first.”

“What’s wrong with you? Do you need any help?”

Hayden was shocked to hear this and quickly replied, “No, I… I’m changing. My clothes were soiled after saving the person just now.”

Hayden heaved a sigh of relief after she managed to convince Jeff to leave. She turned around and saw Joseph looking sheepishly at her as he said, “You are great at lying.”

Hayden blushed immediately and glared at him, “All because of you.”

“Actually your lie wasn’t well thought out.” Joseph crossed his arms and teased, “So many people saw me carry you in here. Don’t you think that your assistant would expect that I’m here?”

Hayden’s expression changed immediately on hearing this and remained speechless for a moment. Didn’t she just shoot herself in the foot?

“You already knew that this would happen?” Hayden ground her teeth and said, “You did this on purpose.”

“Yes, I did.” Joseph said calmly, “An eye for an eye.”

Hayden frowned and asked, “What for? Have I offended you?”

Joseph looked deeply into her and reminded her, “You have forgotten what we agreed at the ancient city?”

Hayden came to her senses and her face started to burn, “I was…”

She simply couldn’t find the words and then said, “So because of that you held a grudge against me until today. You kept making things difficult for me and today you intentionally did that in front of so many people…”

Joseph reacted and said, “What do you mean that I made things difficult for you because of that matter?”

“Then what else could it be?” Hayden was now upset and softly said, “You picked on me during the meeting in front of so many people. You were taking revenge for your own private reasons”

“What did you say?”

“Nothing.” Hayden avoided his eyes and shifted to the side.

Joseph looked at her and then at the large bouquet of roses as his cheerful mood dissipated and he said coldly, “The scent of the flowers is too strong. Next time don’t put them in the office. It’s so tacky.”

He said it as if he was disgusted by the flowers which caused Hayden to frown and asked, “Tacky? Then why did you send me these flowers?”

Joseph was stunned and surprised.

“I’m a tacky person that likes tacky flowers, okay?” Hayden rolled her eyes, stood up, and demanded, “I’ll go out first. Wait till there isn’t anyone outside before you leave.” She was still blushing but she forced a calm expression when she left. As for Joseph, she still looked panicky.

After she left, Joseph walked over to the vase of roses and then saw the card beneath the vase. He grinned when he saw the words written on the card. The truth was finally out.

So the old man was up to his tricks again!

At the staff rest area, Lillian just regained her consciousness. Her pale face showed how weak she was. A colleague who was close to her was comforting her.

“Lillian.” Hayden pushed aside the onlookers and went to the bedside and gently said, “How are you? Are you still feeling unwell?” Lillian tried her best to shake her head as her tears continued to fall onto the bed sheet.

“I will investigate this matter. You must not have such suicidal thoughts again. Just imagine how sad your grandmother would be when she finds out!” Hayden’s heart ached for her as she held onto her cold hands.

Lillian was a receptionist whom she hired a month ago. Although she quit before completing middle school and did not have any skills, she was very conscientious in her work. She was a poor kid who came out of the village to work just to provide for her sickly grandmother. This information was found out by Hayden personally.

With regards to the alleged theft by Lillian, there was currently no hard evidence of it. Hayden also did not believe that Lillian would do such a thing. As she was comforting Lillian, a commotion started outside.

“What’s happening?” Hayden frowned and asked.

“It’s Madison.” On hearing, the onlookers started to mumble among themselves.

When she heard the name ‘Madison’, Hayden could clearly feel Lillian gripping her hand tightly and appeared to be very scared.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get to the bottom of this matter.” Hayden patted Lillian’s hand and stood up to go out, “Can everyone please leave so that Lillian can have a good rest?”

“Rest?” Just as the door closed, a sinister voice could be heard, “If everyone who stole something could use suicide as a tactic to seek sympathy, then all those who were imprisoned for murder should come to the Zifeng Tower to attempt suicide.”

Hayden looked over and saw Madison folding her arms and staring at her. She was full of disdain. She wore olive-colored green shorts with a black T-shirt. She was petite and looked lovely.

This lovely lady just launched her career and was currently in the limelight. Privately, she had a very bad temper and when they were checking into the hotel, she already had several clashes with the lead actress, Viola due to the casting of the film.

“Ms. Lopez, we are not covering up this matter. It is inappropriate to make a judgment before the matter is thoroughly investigated.

“From last night till today, she was the only one who entered my room. The security cameras also proved that I didn’t wrongly accuse of it.”

Madison frowned and said with disdain, “From the looks of it you are covering this up for her. Just now you risked your own life to save her. Why? Is she your relative?”

On hearing this, Hayden secretly rolled her eyes but outwardly she still appeared calm and said, “This matter…”

“This matter is very simple and needs no investigation. I won’t miss a necklace but I hate those who steal. So I only have one request which is to fire her and I will let the matter rest. If not, I will make sure that the hotel is responsible for it.” Madison interrupted Hayden and tilted her chin up arrogantly.

“After all, this thief is your subordinate. If I were to persist in this matter, you will have to pack up and leave as well.”

Hayden clenched her fists as she endured.

“The person who should pack up and leave is you, Ms. Lopez!” A cold and lofty man’s voice sounded from the corridor and everyone looked in that direction.
