Chapter 126: It’s Between You and Me
Chapter 126: It’s Between You and Me
Joseph had never thought of looking for a lifelong partner before he met Hayden. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
In his eyes, he always thought that raising a dog was much more reliable than getting married. He didn’t feel lonely, but instead, he enjoyed being alone. There was once he thought that Noah Beckham had messed up his life. But he never thought of meeting Hayden again one day.
Her appearance was different from Noah’s. Joseph was resisting Noah initially, but to Hayden, he was willing for it.
The sound of the door shut echoed in the silent room. The sound was low and didn’t affect the sleeping environment in the bedroom.
Magnus James had been waiting at the entrance for a while, “Mr. Beckham.”
“Mmm.” Joseph nodded in response and instructed him, “There were many rumours in the hotel for the past two days. You deal with it. I don’t want to hear any about these rumours again.”
When it came to this matter, he felt impatient about it. Everyone in the hotel thought that Hayden had a husband, but she never explained anything about her. It was left for him to clear all her mess.
“I’ll handle it by tomorrow morning,” Magnus promised. “By the way, regarding the matter about Caesar that you asked me before, it’s taking shape. Caesar’s neighbour said that there was a teenager who went to Caesar’s house before the fire.”
Joseph halted his steps, frowning, “A teenager?”
“According to witnesses, the teenager is not quite about twenty, looks comely, and seems to be a college student. He was traveling to GX Town, and he lived in Caesar’s house before. He went back again after half a month, and that was the night when Caesar had the accident. This is the photo.”
Magnus took a photo out of the Kraft paper bag and gave it to Joseph.
“It’s a photomontage made on the spot according to the descriptions given by the neighbours. The look of the teenager won’t differ much.”
Joseph was pinching the edge of the photo and felt familiar looking at the teenager in it.
As he was thinking, some footstep sounds were coming from a distance. A long shadow was formed under the light of the corridor, and a teenager’s deep voice sounded, “You guys are here too?”
Joseph raised his head as he stuffed the photo back into the kraft paper bag. He frowned as he saw Benjamin, “Why are you here?”
Benjamin was in a white casual outfit, looking energetic. “I’m here for Ms. Downey. I remembered some places in the past two days, and it might be related to my memories. I’m planning to go on with her.”
“She is asleep. She is swamped with work on these two days. I’m afraid she won’t have the time.” Joseph looked at Benjamin, feeling alarmed. He said in a low voice after a pause, “You can come to my assistant if you remember anything.”
Benjamin crossed his arms, glancing at Joseph faintly, “This is something between Hayden and me. So I won’t bother you guys then.”
Joseph’s face changed as he looked at Benjamin coldly.
Not many people had dared to call his bluff. This wasn’t the first time Joseph felt that Benjamin seemed to have great animosity towards himself.
“The ST Group has taken the responsibility of you getting hit. Since you were discharged from the hospital, this is not the matter between you and Hayden anymore.” Joseph stared at Benjamin with an oppressive gaze as he emphasized, “It’s between you and me.”
Benjamin curled his lips in disdain and said nonchalantly, “That’s not necessarily true.”
The situation turned awkward at once.
A phone rang suddenly, and Magnus answered the phone hurriedly. The call had broken the stalemate in the corridor.
“Mr. Beckham, the receptionist said that Ms. Kidman is here for you. She has something to talk to you.”
Joseph nodded, “Let’s go.”
Benjamin watched them go, frowning in contempt.
At the office, the secretary served tea and had a few glances at Viola Kidman before leaving.
The entire hotel had known that Hayden and Joseph were together now. But Viola was the one rumoured to be Joseph’s fiancée previously. Now it seemed that their engagement would be called off. But why was she here? It just seemed like a good show.
“Magnus said that you have contacted a German doctor who is knowledgeable about child psychology, is it?” Going straight to the point, Joseph asked.
Viola felt complacent, “Yes. I’ve been to Germany and met a professor. He has been researching child psychology, and he has dipped into aspects of children with autism or loss of language skills due to childhood trauma. And I thought of Noah about this instantly.”
“You’re so thoughtful.” Joseph frowned ponderingly.
“It’s my pleasure. After all, I have watched Noah grow up. If he can speak like a normal child, I couldn’t be any happier than this. When is a good time for you? I’ll contact the doctor, and let’s bring Noah to meet him.”
Joseph nodded, “After I have finished this when the foreign guests have left.”
The matter about Noah for refusing to speak had been a dilemma for Joseph. They had consulted numerous doctors in the past, and there wasn’t any progress. The only thing he heard before was Noah calling “Mommy” twice. This made him felt guilty for not giving Noah a healthy family. And that might be the crux for his autism too.
Viola lowered her head as she drank the tea, hiding her joy.
As long as she had the chance to have more contact with Joseph, she would have a way to let him change his mind.
“Then I’ll inquire the doctor about his free time in the next two days.” Viola’s voice was soft. She smiled suddenly as if something came to her mind, “Speaking of this doctor, I met him at a bridal shop. That was the time when I went to Germany for a film shooting, and I went to the shop to take the wedding dress that I’ve ordered, so was he.”
Joseph lowered his head, looking at the documents, and he didn’t intend to respond to her.
Viola clenched her fist and asked, “Joseph, I know that you won’t look up to any actor like me, but we have known each other for so many years, and you know my feelings for you. That time when you told me that our engagement was called off suddenly and not even giving me a reason.”
Viola attended the award ceremony that day when she received a call from Joseph’s assistant. Joseph just let his assistant call her for such an essential matter as calling off their engagement. There was nothing she could negotiate with him.
On the call, the assistant said, “As compensation, Mr. Beckham has contacted the organizer, and you will be selected for the Best Actress award at the White Bear Film Festival.” How could she be willing for all her hard work to be nullified?
After hearing her interrogation, Joseph raised his head and had a gaze at her, “I seemed to have made it clear to you when I proposed to you. It isn’t that I need a wife, but Noah needs a mother.”
