Chapter 147 Pregnant
Chapter 147 Pregnant
"Isn't that Lily's voice?" Irene thought. She turned her head a little and saw Lily and Deborah come in
through another door in sunglasses.
"We don't have to line up if we come early," Deborah replied.
"Come at night if you are afraid of lining up. Madam Walker is here anyway. Why do we have to come
so early?" Lily replied with displeasure. She returned home at midnight, but Deborah still dragged her
out to have a check-up early the next morning, hence disturbing her sweet slumber. Lily was irked.
"Let's have an examination first. It's better to settle this matter sooner, idiot!" Deborah chided as she
grabbed Lily's hand and hurried upstairs. They were in a hurry that they did not see Irene, who was
standing next to the bulletin board.
Irene heard their conversation clearly. "Madam Walker? Marie is a specialist in this hospital. Are they
referring to Marie?" she wondered.
"Lily called her Madam Walker, as if they are close to each other. Is Marie an acquaintance of them?"
Irene scratched her head.
Seeing that it was almost her turn, Irene went upstairs too. The Gynecology and Obstetrics Department
was on the second floor while the Infertility Department was on the third floor. Irene saw Deborah and
Lily went up to the third floor.
She went straight to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department on the second floor. When the doctor
heard that she was going to have a blood test to check her pregnancy status, he gave her an invoice
and asked her to proceed to the cashier to make payment. The physician in charge of blood testing
then asked her to come over to get her results at noon.
Seeing that it was still early, Irene went outside to wait for the results. She needed not to go far. There
was a small garden between the hospital wards and the clinic. It was decorated with a fountain,
flowers, and trees. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful.
Irene went to the garden and sat by the fountain. She scrolled through the news on her phone.
This place was really quiet. Irene watched the news for a while and suddenly heard a familiar voice.
"Why do you pull a long face just now? What would Marie think? She is doing this for your own good,"
Deborah said.
Irene was hidden by a huge stone; she was able to see Lily and Deborah but they couldn't see her.
"I can't be happy," Lily replied.
"You have to be happy no matter how displeased you are. You're lucky this time. You happened to be
menstruating. So, we are able to do tests that can be done only when you are on menstruation. When
your menstruation has ended, let's come back for another check-up," Deborah said.
Lily was very impatient. "It's so annoying. Haven't I taken these examinations before? Why do I have to
take the tests again this time?" she asked.
"Silly girl, that was three years ago. We wouldn't know your latest fertility status if we don't take the
tests again," Deborah comforted her. "It's for your own good. Be patient, though it's a little troublesome.
We have to ensure that everything will go perfectly well."
"I'm flustered when I see Marie's face. Mom, can we change to another hospital? I don't want to deal
with her at all." Lily still looked rather unwilling.
"No way, I only trust her with this. Anyone else might not be able to do it right," Deborah replied.
"Why do you trust her so much? She is so cruel. She can even hurt her own niece. I'm afraid that she
will do the same to me," Lily continued.
"You're not the same as her niece. Don't worry. Even if she treats everyone with malice, she will always
treat you with tender care," Deborah added. "Just be patient, remember to smile at her and pull an
attitude,understand?"
Lily promised Deborah unwillingly and they left. Irene was very surprised. Why did Lily and Deborah
come to the hospital? Listening to their conversation, Lily seemed to be discontented with Marie. They
said that Marie was cruel enough to hurt her own niece. As far as Irene knew, Marie had no relatives.
Who was her niece?
Also, why did Lily have to do the examination during and after her menstrual period? Did Lily have any
gynecological sickness?
Edric said that he had agreed to get engaged to Lily because Marie said that Lily could not conceive.
Could it be that Lily came to the hospital this time to treat her infertility?
Multiple questions started to flood Irene's mind and she could not make a single sense out of them.
She sat in the garden for a long time and soon noon arrived. She stood up and went back to the
hospital.
Irene collected the test results and went to the clinic to see the doctor. The doctor looked at the results
and told her, "Based on your test results, we can confirm that you're in your early stage of pregnancy!"
Irene was over cloud nine. After thanking the doctor, she rushed out of the hospital. At the hospital
entrance, she couldn't wait to call Nathan, "Nathan, I'm pregnant!"
"Really?" Nathan's voice changed a little when he heard her. He was, too, completely surprised. "Thank
God, we can finally stop worrying!"
"Yes! Thank God for giving me some hope. Eden is saved!" Irene cried. She knew it wasn't easy for her
to reach this step.
"Mom, when will you be back?" Eden interrupted from the other line.
"I'm coming back in a few days. My dear boy, I will be back by your side in no time!" Irene said as she
made a kissing sound on the phone. Eden's kissing could be heard from the other end of the line too.
"Mom, hurry up and come back. I have a surprise for you!" Eden said.
"What surprise?"
"I can't tell you now. I'll tell you when you are back!" chuckled Eden.
"You're being so mysterious." Irene burst out laughing.
After the call ended, she found that she had received a few missed calls from Edric. He had had dinner
with Rowane After Dark before, and he finally remembered to call her.
Irene ignored his call and waved her hand to hail the taxi to go back to Chandelle Valley.
After hanging up the phone, Eden shook Nathan's hand and said, "Nathan, I didn't tell Mom about the
surprise just now. You have to reward me!"
Eden looked at Nathan with his charming eyes, which were like the brightest stars in the starry sky.
Nathan tittered, picked Eden up, kissed him, and then circled him in an embrace around the house.
Eden giggled. His laughter surrounded the whole house. He was finally going to have a father! He was
extremely excited since he had always wanted a father like Nathan. His dream was finally becoming
true; he was overjoyed.
After more than three minutes or so, Nathan put Eden down, exhausted. Eden nestled in his arms and
asked, "Nathan, you won't change your mind, will you?"
Nathan reached out to stroke Eden's hair and said lovingly, "Don't worry. When have I ever lie to you?"
"Alright! Nathan, you're the best!" Eden beamed so wide his eyes became a line.
In Chandelle Valley.
Irene arrived back in a taxi. When she entered the house, she began to pack up.
Since she had expected that such a day would come, she didn't bring too many things. Therefore, it did
not take long for her to pack up all her belongings. In less than ten minutes, she had cleared the house
of her things.
Looking at the packed luggage, her heart was blistering with joy. Yet, she felt kind of lost too. She
looked around the house again, taking in the sight of the familiar decorations. She recalled what Edric
had said to her here and couldn't help falling into another daze.
If he hadn't lied to her the previous night... if he had come back the previous night... if it wasn't for that
phone call...
Perhaps she would really be with Edric and tell him about Eden's identity, and then...
"That's impossible…" She shook her head to clear her thoughts and patted her face. "Irene, wake up.
Don't be fooled or you will regret it."
She reminded herself to not bring trouble to herself again. That man was not worthy of her trust
anymore.
Irene walked out of the house without second thoughts. The most important thing in her mind now was
Eden.
Irene soon reached the airport. She was lucky enough to buy a flight ticket at the counter. Sitting in the
waiting hall, she took out her phone and called Kinsey, "I'm going back to Mencodia."
"Are you pregnant?" Kinsey was stunned before a realization soon dawned on her. She sighed and
asked, "Are you going to give up on him?"
Subconsciously, Kinsey still hoped that Irene would stay, but her happiness...
"I haven't given up. I hadn't had any hope for him to begin with since three years ago. If it wasn't for
Eden, I wouldn't have..."
Kinsey understood what she meant. "Well, then what about you and Nathan? He has been really nice
to you for so many years."
She was jealous of Irene sometimes. Besides Edric, Nathan alone was so sweet that Kinsey had
wanted to throw herself into his embrace at times.
Irene shook her head unconsciously. "I don't deserve him."
With this reply, she ended any possibility of her being with Nathan.
After hanging up the phone, Irene fell into a trance. Below Kinsey's number, it was Edric's number. Her
fingers hurt from exerting too much force as she pressed down on his contact.
After a long while, she still made the decision to press the call button. "Hello?" She felt the dryness in
her mouth, her voice as soft as a whisper.
"Irene, what's wrong?" Edric was a little excited that she took the initiative to call him.
She remained silent for a long time on the line. Suddenly, he was consumed by an unspeakable fear.
He had a gut-wrenching feeling that something was wrong. "Irene, say something?" Edric urged in a
hurry.
"I'm leaving. I'm taking a flight back to Mencodia in ten minutes," Irene answered. This time, she didn't
want to hide anything again. She wanted both of them to have a clean break.
Edric's fingertips turned pale. "Why? Is it because of Nathan?" he asked.
He mentioned Nathan's name without even thinking. After all these years, Nathan was still involved in
their relationship.
"Sort of," Irene didn't want to explain too much as she put her hand on her belly unconsciously.
"How can you treat me like this? You promised me! You said that we'll start fresh again…" The pen in
Edric's hand pierced into his flesh. However, he could not feel the stabbing pain although blood had
started oozing out from the wound. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Irene sneered and she felt the emptiness in her heart growing. "Is that so? But I don't believe you
anymore... In fact, I had given you a chance... Unfortunately... we are still not meant for each other in
the end."
They had missed each other in the past. She didn't want that to repeat again.
After that, she hung up the phone, shut her eyes and swallowed the emptiness in her heart silently.
"Ladies and gentlemen, good day. The flight to Mencodia is now boarding…" the speaker announced
repeatedly.
Irene stood up and proceeded to have her ticket checked. She could not wait to see Eden once again.
When Rowane walked into the office, she saw Edric sit motionlessly in his seat. "Edric, what's wrong
with your hand?" she asked.
She came to pass the documents to him. Since she was going abroad, she had been doing the
handover work for the past few days.
Edric looked up at her with a pale smile on his face. "We're done."
"Edric... what's wrong with you?" Rowane asked nervously.
Next thing she knew, he had fainted.
In Mencodia.
"Mom!" Eden cried out in joy as he ran towards Irene.
The moment she saw Eden, all her worries had disappeared. She hugged Eden tightly in her arms.
"Do you miss me?" she asked happily.
Eden nodded desperately in her arms. "Mom, I am being good. I came to pick you up today with
doctor's consent."
Irene let go of him and felt a twinge of pain in her heart. She almost forgot that he was still ill.
"Yes, I have already consulted the doctor. Eden was allowed out with doctor's consent," Nathan said.
Nathan was still looking as handsome as ever. He walked over and had a refreshing smile on his face.
Irene held Eden's hand and stood up. "Nathan."
It had been a long time since she last saw him!
"Let's go home!" Nathan spoke, his voice as clear as the whistles of hummingbirds, removing all her
anxiousness.
