Chapter 148 Britney White No Longer Opposes Them
Chapter 148 Britney White No Longer Opposes Them
They drove back to the White family. When they entered the mansion, they saw Britney and Joanne
sitting in the living room. Irene instantly felt a little awkward. In fact, she did not expect Nathan to bring
her to the White family directly.
"Hello, Madam Britney, Miss White," Irene greeted them and glanced at Nathan rigidly.
Britney stood up and sized Irene up. With a faint smile, she said, "Eden, come here and let me have a
look at you." Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Just when Irene thought she would be nagged by Britney for meeting Nathan, Britney bent down and
waved to Eden.
"Nice meeting you, Grandma!" Eden called as he ran over happily.
Joanne stood up and smiled, "Nathan, Grandma said that we have to wait for you all to come back and
have dinner together. I'm famished!" Joanne giggled as she walked towards the dining table.
After the meal, Britney brought Irene to her room.
She took out a glass box and Irene opened it slowly. There was a fine-quality emerald ring in it.
"What's this?" Irene looked at Britney in confusion.
Britney looked at the ring and said seriously, "This is an heirloom of our family. It's a priceless item, and
I have to pass it down to my daughter-in-law."
"But... I!" She finally understood what Britney meant. She looked at her in disbelief. She remembered
that Britney opposed them being together so firmly at that time. Why did she change her mind now?
Britney nodded and said, "Eden is a good boy. I hope that he can have a complete family and be
happy. Previously, it was us who misunderstood you. Now that I have thought it through, it doesn't
matter who my granddaughter-in-law is. What matters is that Eden is happy."
Irene was rendered speechless. She remembered the pain she had endured in the past. After all these
hassles and hardships, she was now a divorced woman with two children.
Nathan was so perfect. Would she ever match him?
"I'm sorry, Grandma. I'm pregnant with someone else's child," Irene confessed. She did not know what
to say except to be honest with Britney.
Britney was dumbstruck for a moment before she understood what Irene meant at once. She sighed
deeply and said, "I understand what you have experienced over the years. I was at fault too. If it wasn't
for..."
"No, these have nothing to do with you. Therefore, you don't have to do this." Irene handed the glass
box back.
A lot more had been said that night. Finally, Irene ended the conversation with Britney by saying that
she would consider it.
Walking out of Britney's room, Irene bumped into Nathan at the door. He stood there with a refreshed
outlook. Irene felt nervous looking at Nathan, which was a little unusual as she was normally quite
composed.
"I'm pregnant, Nathan," she said. This was her first sentence to Nathan when she saw him. She did not
know how to refuse him. The man before her eyes was so perfect. She could not tarnish his reputation
because of her own selfishness.
Nathan raised his head, his flawless eyes more charming than ever. "You know I never care about it,"
Nathan replied.
"But I do. I can't bring you such humiliation," she said firmly.
"You don't feel like being with me, are you? You still love Edric, right?" Nathan asked lightly, his smile
remained plastered on his face.
Irene was stunned. She did not want to answer this question.
The next day, she got up very early, because she couldn't sleep at all.
Eden and Nathan were exercising early in the morning. She had already got used to making breakfast
first thing in the morning.
When Joanne got up, she received a phone call from Jordan. When she saw the name, every cell of
hers screamed in excitement. She answered the call, "Jordan, why are you so early?"
"Irene has returned to Mencodia, hasn't she?" Jordan asked as soon as the phone was connected.
Joanne's face fell instantly.
He never took the initiative to call her all this while. It turned out that this time, there was no
difference; he was not calling for her, but for Irene.
"Yes, she's back!" Joanne answered gleefully in order to please Jordan. However, inwardly, anger was
brewing inside her.
After hanging up the phone, she went downstairs. It so happened that Britney came out of the room
too. She ran up to Britney and greeted, "Grandma."
She walked forward to Britney warmly but Britney only responded to her with a faint smile before she
went downstairs.
Joanne's face froze and she blamed it all on Irene.
During the nighttime, Nathan and Eden disappeared suddenly. They said they were going out to get
some stuff. Irene didn't think much about it either. When she returned to the room, she called the doctor
to make an appointment to conduct a comprehensive examination the next day.
Everything was ready. She looked at the time and found that it was already seven o'clock in the
evening. Eden should have a rest at this time. When she opened the door, she was astonished to see
colorful lights hanging all over the walls. She walked to the fence and covered her mouth with her
hands.
The spacious living room was empty and countless candles were arranged in the shape of a heart on
the floor. Nathan was dressed in an exquisite tuxedo, looking all noble and elegant. He had the most
charming eyes, and Irene was drowned into them immediately.
"Marry me, Irene!" Nathan confessed.
Irene was moved to tears by this marriage proposal. If this scene had happened years ago, she would
have said yes without hesitation.
However now… she covered her belly with her hands unconsciously. There was a life in her belly. It
was a pity that its father was not Nathan.
"Marry him, girl. You two should live happily ever after," Britney, who was on the side, smiled.
Irene looked at Nathan. He was never a romantic person but he actually made such an effort for her.
She understood his thoughts; he had indeed waited for her for a long time over the years.
She walked down the stairs slowly and approached him. She asked, "Nathan, do you really not mind
what happened in these years and the child in my belly?"
Nathan shook his head without hesitation. He wasn't in the right to judge her and her past since he was
part of the reason she lived as such in the past. All he wanted to do now was to give her happiness,
and he couldn't wait any longer.
Tears streamed down her face and she nodded in agreement.
Nathan put the ring on her finger and then hugged her tightly. He felt as if his heart was filled in an
instant.
Joanne, who was at the back, was expressionless. Yet, deep down, she felt extremely uneasy. She had
once plotted against Irene. Walls had ears. If Irene knew about it in the future, she would definitely not
spare Joanne. Nathan would definitely take over the White Group in the future. Since he loved Irene so
much, he would definitely listen to her words. How would Joanne's life end up like then?
The relationship between her and Jordan was already in jeopardy. If even her family turned against
her, not only her life would be more difficult in the future, but also her parents' life.
No way! She could not let Nathan marry Irene. She had to think of a way to stop them from marrying
each other.
"Irene, can we have a talk?" After cleaning up the scene, Joanne walked up to her.
Irene raised her head and nodded, albeit a little embarrassed. The decision she made a while ago was
indeed a little impulsive. Perhaps, it was because it had been too long since she felt so blissful.
Nathan's sincerity had managed to move her.
Walking out of the White Mansion, there was a huge garden outside. Joanne went straight to the point
and questioned, "Why did you agree to Nathan's proposal? I thought you would know when to stop."
Irene frowned and looked at Joanne, feeling puzzled. "What do you mean that I would know when to
stop? I don't quite get you."
Joanne scoffed and said, "You don't get me, huh? You clearly know that Jordan likes you. But now you
show up in my house so openly and accept Nathan's proposal. Don't you think it's awkward to have
such a relationship? How are you going to face Jordan in the future?!"
Joanne was pampered like a princess since she was a child. Therefore, she had no idea that her words
could hurt another individual.
Irene listened quietly. Joanne was right. Although Irene felt sorry for Jordan, she would not give in this
time. She did not want to give up this rare opportunity to finally live a blissful life.
She wanted to bet, once and for all. She wanted to bet on her and Nathan's happiness.
Irene raised her head and replied confidently, "Miss White, I know what you are thinking, but Nathan
and I really want to be together. I only hope that you can give us blessings. As for Jordan, I believe he
will understand my choice."
Joanne's face froze. She did not understand why Irene, who had always been nice all the time, had
suddenly become so firm and stubborn. With anger burning in her heart, her tone became harsh at
once. "Give you my blessings? You are a divorcee! Besides, you still have a child in you! Do you think
you're worthy of being with Nathan? Irene, look at yourself! You were not worthy before, and now you
worthed even less!"
"Joanne, what are you talking about?!" Nathan's voice rang out all of a sudden with a wave of
unprecedented anger in his undertone.
Seeing Nathan's appearance, Joanne's face turned a little pale. Nathan went straight to Irene's side
and held her hand. He looked at Joanne indifferently and criticized, "Mind your own business. Don't
poke your nose into mine!"
After that, he pulled Irene back.
Irene looked at his side profile curiously. She had never seen such a powerful Nathan before; she
couldn't help grinning.
They disappeared at the corner. Joanne looked at them hatefully. She could not believe Nathan would
talk to her in that tone, and it was all because of Irene.
"It's all that woman's fault... We'll wait and see!" Joanne cursed under her breath.
In the hospital ward of San Fetillo.
Edric opened his eyes slowly and looked around to confirm that it was the hospital.
He sat up slowly before his fingers touched someone. His eyes lit up but dimmed at the next moment.
It was not Irene!
Lily was awakened in shock. She raised her head and looked at him happily. "You're awake..."
Edric nodded and looked at her indifferently, asking, "Why are you here?"
"It was Rowane who told me. Wasn't she busy with stuff going abroad? She didn't have time to take
care of you, thus I came," Lily explained. When Rowane told her about it, she was really frightened. But
when she heard that it was because of Irene's departure, she was both jealous yet happy.
There was no problem with her body check-up and Marie said that the operation could be carried out
immediately...
She looked at Edric happily. Perhaps in the near future, he would be the father of her child.
"What are you laughing at?" Edric asked. His head hurt a little and he felt it hurt even more when he
looked at the smirking Lily.
Lily shook her head, stood up, and served him a cup of tea. At this time, Edric's phone rang.
When he saw the caller ID was from abroad, he picked it up instantly joyfully. "Irene..."
"Why would you think it's Irene?" Joanne's voice, which sounded rather unfamiliar to Edric, rang out
from the other end. Edric was stunned before he came to his senses.
"May I know who this is?" Edric asked. He was a little disappointed that it was not Irene.
The corners of Joanne's mouth quirked upwards. "I'm Joanne White, Nathan's younger sister. Mr.
Myers, it seems that your memory is failing you."
Edric was a little stunned and thought, "Joanne? That is to say, she is Jordan's fiancee."
"Is there anything?" Edric asked. Initially, he wanted to hang up the phone as he had nothing to say to
Joanne.
Joanne would certainly not let him hang up the phone. "Nathan proposed to your beloved woman
today. Don't you want to know the result? Irene has already agreed to his proposal," she said.
Edric closed his eyes and exhaled deeply. Irene surely couldn't even wait for another second! She
agreed to another man's proposal right after she left him.
"Irene did not even hesitate. But that's not what I want to tell you," Joanne paused for a moment and
continued, "Mr. Myers... Do you know whose child Eden is?" That was why she made the call.
