Chapter 155 A Fight
Chapter 155 A Fight
Margaret heard Irene's voice and immediately turned her head around. She chuckled evilly. "Well, well,
look who it is..."
Her gaze intensified as she looked over to Eden who was sleeping in Nathan's arms. Before Edric had
mentioned it, she would never have imagined that Eden was related to her. But after listening to what
Edric had said, she realized the child in front of her looked just like a young Edric.
She couldn't help but walk over and reach out to stroke Eden's head. Nathan dodged to one side and
looked at her warily. "Mrs. Myers, what were you trying to do?"
"Is this boy my grandson?" Margaret felt a twinge of upset that she had not managed to touch Eden,
but her sadness was soon washed away, replaced by excitement.
"Mrs. Myers, you're mistaken. This is my son, not your grandson!" Irene walked up to them, her face
taut. She might be patient with Edric, but Margaret… was the last person on earth that she wanted to
see.
"You..." Margaret's face changed. "Irene, is this how you should be talking to me? I used to be your
mother-in-law!"
"Oh? I didn't realize you were aware that you used to be my mother-in-law?" Irene sniggered. "If that's
the case, you'd better keep yourself in check. This is not the Myers family. Your tactics won't work
here!"
"You are the guest here. Please take a seat, and we can talk it out, Mrs. Myers!" Britney said
diplomatically, defusing the tense situation. With all the commotion, Eden roused from his sleep. He
rubbed his eyes and drawled, "Mom, you're home? Why didn't you wake me?"
"You were sleeping so soundly so she didn't wake you," Nathan answered.
Affection swirling in her eyes, Britney looked at Eden and said, "Come here."
Eden went to Britney's side obediently. Britney held him on her lap and asked, "Did you get an injection
today?"
"Yes, but I didn't cry!" Eden answered proudly.
"Good boy!" Britney kissed Eden's face. Meanwhile, Margaret's eyes never left Eden. She just stared at
Eden and watched as the White family lavished him with adoration. In her heart, a storm of anger was
surging. This was HER grandson. As his grandmother, she had been kept in the dark while the White
family took away her adorable little grandson. To sit back and watch as he was being hogged by
others? Over her dead body!
"Irene, I'm here for the child."
Irene lifted her eyebrows slightly and laughed mockingly. "Child? What child? Mrs. Myers, you don't
have dementia, do you?"
"Stop with this act. I know that Eden is my grandson!" Margaret hissed, her tone without any room for
negotiation.
"Your grandson? What right do you make such a claim?" Irene ridiculed. "Mrs. Myers, I gave birth to
him after my divorce and therefore has nothing to do with you. I'm sure it'll be easy for you to get a
grandson. After all, you're always scheming for one. Just get a mistress, or find a surrogate, and voila, This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
you will soon have one. This is my son. Don't you dare to lay your hands on him!"
Margaret's face flushed red. She said after a long while, "Irene, let's get a paternity test to see if he is
truly my grandson. Your word doesn't count for anything!"
Irene couldn't help but flash a scornful grin again. How could Margaret be so self-righteous?
"A paternity test? Why would I subject my child to a paternity test? Who are you to demand this?" Irene
was no longer the pushover she used to be. In front of these people, she had to protect those she
loved.
"I might not have the right, but Edric does. I'll have you know, as long as Eden is my grandson, I have
the right to take him away!" barked Margaret.
"In your wildest dreams!" Irene did not give in. "If anyone dares to lay so much as a finger on Eden, I'll
drag them into the depths of hell!"
Margaret was stunned; she did not expect Irene to be so resolute.
Their quarrel was in a deadlock. Eden stared at Irene with his eyes wide open before he darted them to
look at Margaret. He said in a childish voice, "Don't raise your voice to my mother, you bad lady!"
"You're my grandson. Come to Grandma!" Looking at Eden's flickering big eyes, Margaret's heart
softened, her tone turned gentler.
Eden frowned slightly and shook her head at her. "You are not my grandma. You are a bad person.
A bad person who argued with my mother!"
Margaret was taken aback. She stood up and looked at Irene, hatred spilling from her gaze. It was all
Irene's fault! She deliberately concealed the fact that she gave birth to Eden and taught him to come to
hate her and Edric. An evil incarnation Irene was!
Irene felt sad looking at Eden's expression as he tried to protect her. She had always wanted him to
lead a peaceful life, but things didn't go as planned. She no longer wanted Eden to be faced with
Margaret's obnoxious demeanor, so she went over and picked him up. "Good boy, let's go upstairs to
play!"
"What are you doing? We haven't finished discussing what to do about the child yet!" Seeing Irene
carrying Eden upstairs, Margaret was anxious!
"Mrs. Myers, do have some self-respect. If you don't want to humiliate yourself further, please see
yourself out. I've told you, this is my child. He has nothing to do with you. Don't be mistaken!" With that,
Irene turned on her heel and left.
Margaret was unwilling to let them go. It had taken her so long to realize that she had such an adorable
grandson. She really wanted to hold him in her arms and kiss him hard. When she saw Irene carrying
Eden upstairs, she stood up and stopped Irene, reaching out to grab Eden in her arms.
"What are you doing?" Irene reached out to push her.
Margaret refused to let go and roared, "Give my grandson to me!"
Eden had never seen such a scene before, and he cried out in fear.
Nathan came over immediately. "Mrs. Myers, let go. You're scaring the boy!"
Margaret turned a deaf ear to Nathan, and naturally, Irene would not give in either. Britney started to
become apprehensive as she urged, "Mrs. Myers, please let go right now. The child is young, and he's
sick. He isn't going to be able to withstand you tugging at him like this!"
"I won't. This is my grandson. I'm going to take him away!" Margaret bellowed, her voice rising like a
tornado.
"What are you doing?" Edric suddenly appeared. He hadn't been able to locate Margaret anywhere.
Finally, he guessed that she must have come here; therefore, he rushed over in a hurry. When he
entered the door, he saw the scene before him.
"Edric, come and help me. Take Eden away immediately!"
At the sight of Edric, Margaret felt like a savior had just walked through the door. She had completely
lost her usual elegant image.
"The child is in poor health. Mr. Myers, please take your mother away." Britney was most worried about
Eden's physical condition.
Eden's condition had just only stabilized. If this went on, he would definitely fall ill again.
Fear possessing him, Eden clutched Irene tightly. Behind her, Margaret refused to listen to anything
they were saying. She was bent on taking Eden away.
Joanne was the only one of them who stood by and watched the show.
"Mom, I told you I'll solve this problem myself." Edric grabbed Margaret's wrist.
"No, you can't solve it. By hook or by crook, I will take my grandson away!" Margaret insisted that she
would not compromise on this matter.
As she spoke, she strengthened her grip. Eden's crying grew louder. Irene's heart ached and tears
flowed down her cheeks. She was his mother. How could she bear to see Eden suffer? But at the same
time, she was unwilling to let Margaret touch Eden. Finally, after some contemplation, she loosened her
hand and Margaret pulled Eden closely to her.
But Eden didn't want to be near Margaret. He squirmed and cried in her arms, and even hit her face
with his hand. Margaret felt the pain, and thus she loosened her grip and Eden fell to the floor.
A scream pierced the air as Nathan held Eden in his arms and comforted him distressingly. Edric also
stepped forward quickly. Irene looked at Eden, whose face was pale and writhed in pain as he cried
loudly. Resentment rose from the bottom of her heart. With all the wrath in her, she slapped Edric's
face. "Edric Myers, are you happy now?"
Looking at the clear fingerprints on Edric's face, Margaret felt her heart ache. She cursed inwardly that
Irene was so vicious she even dared to slap Edric's face in front of everyone. "You vicious woman, you
refused to let me see my grandson, and now you dare to slap my son! I'll put you in your place!"
Irene's eyes were bloodshot as she approached Margaret. "If you make trouble here again, I swear I'll
kill you!"
The coldness in her eyes sent shivers down Margaret's spine. For some reason, she was trembling in
fear. Irene had always been meek. This was the first time she exuded such a terrifying aura. Margaret
felt like Irene would actually kill her, so she retreated frightfully.
Nathan and Irene were anxious at Eden's continual crying. They sent Eden back to the hospital. The
doctor gave him a check-up and said that he was merely in shock. It would be better to let him stay in
the hospital for the moment to be observed. In the ward, the faint beeping sound of the hospital
equipment was the only noise heard. Irene stared at Eden's pallid face and felt so dejected that tears
started trickling again.
"Eden... I'm so sorry..." she trailed off.
Nathan reached out to hold her in his arms and patted her gently. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine!"
"Nathan..." she said with tears in her eyes. If it wasn't for her, Nathan wouldn't be sucked into this
horrible situation. "I'm sorry!"
"You silly girl, I want to do this for you. I'll be happy as long as you're happy!"
Edric pushed the door open and saw the two of them hugging each other in the ward. Feeling as if his
heart had cracked, he could no longer keep looking at them. He turned around and left. Standing in the
empty corridor, he felt his heart sink all the way to his stomach!
Irene walked out of the ward and saw a tall and lonely figure in the corridor at a glance. Edric was like a
sculpture, standing there motionlessly. Looking at the red marks on his handsome side profile and his
furrowed brows, she felt bad about her earlier action. But when she recalled Eden who was still lying in
the ward, that feeling disappeared instantly. She walked over with an impassive face.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know it would turn out like this..." Edric apologized. This time, he was indeed tongue-
tied.
The problem between them seemed to always lie in Margaret. He naively thought that he could solve
everything, but in the end, he was at the mercy of his own powerlessness.
"If you really feel sorry, show me what you'd do! Actions speak louder than words! As long as you and
your mother stay away from us, Eden and I will be safe and sound!" Irene responded coldly. She didn't
hate Edric, but she could never forgive Margaret.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have told her. I thought it would help—"
"Help? What sort of help? Don't you know what kind of person your mother is?" Irene shouted at the
top of her lungs.
"She did it in the heat of the moment. She wants a grandson so badly that she lost her temper. She
doesn't really intend to hurt the child—"
"If she wants a grandson, why don't you get together with some other woman and give birth to one?
Doesn't she keep a lot of tricks up her sleeve? This shouldn't be a problem for her. So what is she
pestering me for? She is a mother herself; how can she be so cruel?! Eden is still sick. Do you have
any idea how all of this will affect him?" Irene bombarded him with questions mercilessly.
"She... doesn't know what's going on with Eden... If she knew Eden was sick, she would never do that!"
Edric replied firmly.
"I do not want to listen to any of your apologies and excuses. If you really wish for Eden's best, please
leave, both of you. Don't ever show up in his life again!" Irene retorted.
"Irene, how could you ask me to leave at a time like this? How could I?" He was Eden's father. It was
fine before when he hadn't known. But now that he had learned the truth, how could he abandon his ill
son and leave?
"What can you do if you stay?" Irene questioned, "Look at your mother. Do you think that if you stay, it
will help the situation? Do you want to see her snatch my son away and have a repeat of what
happened today?"
"I..." Edric was speechless. It was indeed useless for Margaret to stay. The most urgent matter at hand
was to persuade Margaret to go back. "Irene, I will persuade her to leave the country."
"That's your business, Mr. Myers. You and I have nothing to do with each other. Please stop bothering
me. I beg you!" Irene looked at Edric.
"Don't you realize what kind of person your mother is? She treated me so horribly in the past, and yet
she still hasn't shown the slightest bit of remorse. All she wants is Eden. Can't you see that?"
Of course, Edric knew that Margaret had come for Eden. He also knew that Margaret and Irene had not
got along well in the past. "Irene, I promise this won't happen again! Please believe in me!"
"No, I will not believe you. Edric, I know what you're thinking. But it's impossible between us. Your
mother only came for Eden. I know that women all too well. A classic case of a toxic mother-in-law who
covets only her descendants and gives zero care for the daughter-in-law. She's going to come to me
and offer a sum of money right in my face in exchange for Eden. I will lay it clear to you at this very
moment. Eden is mine, and mine alone. He has nothing to do with either of you. Stop getting the wrong
idea!"
