Chapter 62 The Conflict Between Mother and Daughter
“What are you laughing at?”
Victoria frowned when she saw the smile on Amanda’s face.
Only then did Amanda regain her composure. “I’m inquisitive. What identity do you have to let me leave Iverson with the money? Iverson’s mother? As far as I know, her mother is abroad.”
Victoria’s expression froze.
Amanda continued asking, “Does he know you came to me?”
“Mrs. Old Byran sent me here. Do you know who she is? She’s Iverson’s grandma, the head of the Byran Family.”
“What does it have to do with me?”
Amanda’s expression remained unchanged. “First of all, I’m afraid that your status won’t be able to make the decision to raise me in such a condition. If I ask for too much, will you be able to do it? Will Mrs. Old Byran give you this right?”
“You!”
“Second, thank you for reminding me. I’ll rent the office building in Sisson Tower.”
Victoria was instantly at a loss for words. “What?!”
Amanda didn’t give Victoria a chance to talk. She called in front of her and said, “I’ve decided. I’ll rent the office building. I’ll pay the rent you said and prepare the contract.”
On the other side, Victoria was dumbfounded.
After hanging up, Amanda took two notes from her wallet and put them under the coffee cup. “I’ll pay the bill; you’re welcome.”
After that, Amanda left with her bag.
Victoria’s annoyed voice came from behind her. “Let me remind you that someone of your status can’t marry into the Byran Family. You’d better know when to back off. It’s the best choice for you to take some money with you. Be careful, or you’ll end up with nothing!”
Amanda smiled and stood straight. “I know my limits. Not everyone wants to marry into a rich and powerful family like you.”
Looking at Amanda’s back, Victoria was so angry that her hands were trembling.
“She dared to mock her for not knowing her limits?”
“How could a woman like her be allowed to marry into the Byran Family?”
Sitting in the taxi, Amanda looked out of the window in silence.
As Victoria’s words echoed in her ears, her good feelings for Iverson were utterly extinguished. It was as if she had been doused with cold water.
There were lots of disputes in rich and powerful families. She had experienced it and didn’t want to do it again.
On the other side
The Byran Group.
Mrs. Elder Jewell walked into the group with her bag in hand, but she was stopped by the security guards.
“Who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for Mr. Byran.” Mrs. Elder Jewell raised the insulated lunchbox in her hand. “I’ve brought him something.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
“Ah? An appointment?”
Mrs. Elder Jewell was stunned at first, but then she waved her hand. “I came specially to see him. Why don’t you call him and ask him to pick me up?”
Hearing this, the security guard showed an expression of “Are you crazy?”
“Ask the boss to come down to pick her up? This woman is probably a little sick.”
“Sorry, you can’t come in.”
“Huh? Don’t push me. I really know Mr. Byran. Why don’t you believe me?”
Mrs. Elder Jewell took out her phone and made a call. “Look at it. I’ll call him myself.”
As she spoke, she dialed a number.
At this time, in the office on the 22nd floor.
Iverson had just returned from the meeting.
The vibrating sound of the phone made him look back at the table. When he saw the caller ID, there was warmth in his calm and apartness eyes. “Hello? Mrs. Jewell.”
“Now?”
Iverson straightened his back and said, “All right.”
After the call ended, Iverson ordered Jamie to go downstairs to pick her up.
After a while, Jamie came in with Mrs. Elder Jewell.
“Auntie Jewell.”
“Oh, this office is so bright.” Mrs. Elder Jewell looked around as soon as she came in, looking overjoyed. “This is more beautiful than the building of the Sean Group. Does this building belong to you?”
Iverson didn’t look impatient at all.
Jamie, who was standing aside, was surprised. He came to his senses under the boss’s signal and left silently.
“Mrs. Jewell, drink some tea.”
Iverson poured a cup of tea for his mother. “The weather hasn’t been good these days. Why are you here?”
“I’m here to bring you delicious food.”
Mrs. Elder Jewell excitedly put down the insulated lunchbox she had brought. “Iverson, I specially made braised pork and chicken ginseng soup for you. They are nutritious. You have to eat more after working so hard. You are too thin.”
Iverson smiled faintly. “It’s a long journey, but you’ve come all the way here. Thank you.”
“It’s nothing. Amanda is a stuffy gourd. You’ve helped her so much, but she always keeps a straight face and doesn’t appreciate it. As her mother, I inevitably have to worry more. Don’t mind. She’s just that stubborn.”
“She’s fine.”
“Do you also think that Amanda is good?”
Mrs. Elder Jewell’s eyes lit up. “Actually, I’m here to ask you something.”
“Just say it.”
“Do you really like my daughter? Are you going to marry her?”
The afterglow of the setting sun covered the whole Ducco. After a few days of rain, it finally began to lighten.
After Amanda rushed to sign the contract with the office building, she bought something to eat at a convenience store along the way. When she arrived home, it was already completely dark.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw warm light. She was stunned and looked towards the kitchen.
Mrs. Elder Jewell was in the kitchen placing something in the refrigerator.
“Mom, when did you come?” Amanda was surprised. “How did you come in?”
“I came in according to the password. I know you. You only have a few numbers, so you should change them later. It’s too unsafe.” Mrs. Elder Jewell closed the refrigerator door and came out with a smile. “I’ve stewed braised pork and chicken ginseng soup. They can be eaten when they’re heated.”
Amanda was moving in her heart all of a sudden. She grabbed her mother’s hand and said, “Mom, I didn’t mean to lose my temper at you this afternoon. I’m sorry.”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
“Silly child, what are you apologizing to me for? No matter what happens, I will accompany you.”
Mrs. Elder Jewell patted her hand.
Amanda suddenly asked in confusion, “That’s not right. How did you know that I lived here?”
She had just moved in not long ago and had never told Mrs. Elder Jewell that she was living here.
Mrs. Elder Jewell froze and said awkwardly, “Joleen told me about that.”
“Joleen told you?” Amanda took out her cell phone immediately. “I will call Joleen now and ask her if she told you.”
“Hey.” Mrs. Elder Jewell hurriedly grabbed Amanda’s hand. Facing her burning gaze, she could only confess. “Okay, I admit it. Iverson told me about it, okay?”
Thinking of Mrs. Elder Jewell’s braised pork brought with her, Amanda immediately understood. “Did you really go find him?”
“I’m just thanking him for you.”
“Mom!” Amanda stood up in a huff. “Are you done yet? How many times have I told you to leave me alone? Don’t you understand? Why do you want me to marry a rich man?”
“What’s so bad about marrying a rich man? What’s more, Iverson is better than Halley!”
Amanda was furious and raised her voice. “Mom! I’ve already heard about your words and had a marriage once, but what’s the result? Why are you still so stubborn?”
“Are you blaming me?” Mrs. Elder Jewell looked at her in a daze.
Many grievances and pains were suppressed in her heart, and her mother’s indiscretion had become the final nail in Amanda’s coffin. Still, she didn’t want to argue with her anymore.
With a bang, she slammed the door and left.
